Federal Indictment of Donald Trump

Unfortunately, as we see on this very board, there are many people who seem unaware of the differences. Given the echo chamber nature of the far right, it is necessary for everyone with some sense to round up all the nonsense spewed in the echo chamber lest it go unchallenged and perpetuate itself.

you seem unaware of the similarities

We get so invested in defending our own ā€œteamā€ sometimes just because we hate the other team so badly. I say this as a Republican who has often defended the indefensible from Trump. Itā€™s time to stop
I have moved to criticizing the uniparty. If we learned one thing from the speaker election is the Rs are as corrupt as the Ds.

Itā€™s not R vs D anymore. Itā€™s Uniparty vs the citizens. Unfortunately this view doesnā€™t give the partisans the material they need.

I generally agree with the proviso that we still end up having to vote for someone from the uniparty unfortunately
A vote for anyone else is wasted. Not saying that doesnā€™t need to change, just that a large majority of Americans are too lazy and ambivalent to create a viable new option at this time

Go ahead and think about the ramifications of what you are claiming. It is nonsense. You might be the only person in America that believed Trump when he said he could declassify documents by thinking about it.

Where does the constitution place the limitations you imagine on the unitary executive? I don't have to think about "the ramifications" but rather simply understand how this government is constructed. You don't have to accept it or think about it, but there it is. Again, the classification system is a creation of EO and devolves from the executive, not the legislative or judiciary. It's the president's ball of wax. Its guidelines apply to every subordinate stiff in every agency and cabinet position under the president. You can envision how you think it should be or what works better, but THIS is how it is.

Avoid speaking from ignorance by understanding the basis of things, then speaking objectively.

Would Joe last a year doing hard time or would he last because he's superhero Dark Brandon, an 80 y/o 21st century 8 track tape hair piece yokel?

It is constitutionally tricky as the framers had absolutely no inkling of the vast fourth branch of government (the Bureaucracy) and the way that Congress waould gradually delegate almost all legislative actions to this unelected branch.
The executive is definitely within his designated powers to create regulations for classifying and handling documents, doubly so in his role as commander in chief. The applicability of these regulations to individuals outside of government as well as the associated penalties for violations falls under the authority of the legislature and I believe they have done so under the US code as should be the case.

Biden must be so far gone mentally that they will sacrifice him to go after Trump.
The Obama officials actually running things have clearly decided it is time to cut bait and prepare a new lure for 2024. Mayor Pete definitely hurt his chances lately and Kamala is a non starter. Who will the mystery date be?

Can we publicly execute both Trump and Biden? And then, just for kicks, let's publicly flog Don Jr. and Hunter. Both sides happy and we can finally move on as a nation and start shrinking the power of the federal government.

Biden campaign video from 2020 shows Joe reversing Corvette into garage where Classified Documents were found: Boxes are seen under electric door and behind 1967 Stingray that Hunter rebuilt for him

A second batch of classified documents was discovered in President Joe Biden's 'personal library' at his home in Wilmington, Delaware and other documents in his garage, the White House counsel revealed on Thursday ā€“ the latest bombshell comes just days after reports that sensitive documents were also found in his former office in Washington, D.C.

Gavin Newsome.

I swear, Trump has nine lives. No matter what he does someone, or some thing, intervenes to save his fat arse.

Maybe it's the obvious. Trump isn't any worse than lifelong politicians; he's just different, and that offends you. Politicians tell you what you want to hear; Trump tells you what you may or may not want to hear. Trump is an ass, a fool often, an abysmally poor communicator, but at least he's not a swamp creature and has a bit of independent thinking. Sometimes it takes a boor to tell you the yellow liquid running down your leg isn't rain.

The CIC should never have to ask the military for permission.
That has to be the way it works otherwise (and I believe this is what we have now) you have unelected bureaucrats with more authority and power than the president.

Washington was a general who led troops and understood war; he was a fitting CIC. It made sense that when the Constitution was written that the CIC would be more than a figurehead. Now considering who we elect, the CIC should be a figurehead - basically an on/off switch to say we fight or we don't fight; with the actual military management left up to military leaders. Maybe that's the way to get politics out of the top ranks of the military - by severing the close ties with the politicians. Maybe that thought is purely a good natured hope for the better, too. It's folly to have people like Johnson and McNamara deciding how to fight a war, or to have a Clinton, Bush, or Obama sitting in a room directing and deciding operations. At some point you have to let the people who know the job do the job and stay out of the way. We aren't good at that as a society.

Sometimes tasks have to be delegated to someone, and people superior to that someone have to be answerable to that person. One of those positions would be the keeper of the secrets. The keeper/custodian may not need to see, know the contents of, or understand why documents are classified; but he does need to rule them with an iron fist ... and it just doesn't matter who he offends to make sure the documents are kept secure. The president may be at the top of the chain; but he should never be above the law, and following security procedures is the law in any reasonable sense of the word. The day we make the president the leader of his own military and above the law is the day we really do fall into a totalitarian banana republic.

I'd be happy if neither Trump, Pence, Biden, or Harris was in the WH come 2025.

Sure, but there's a whole swampfull of their equals ... and maybe even worse. At least the GOP allowed an outsider to usurp their fiefdom; the dems collude to pick a candidate to the party's liking. We've got to rid ourselves of this BS notion that there's a progression of political positions that grooms someone for the presidency. Otherwise we are just picking another inmate to run the asylum.

I understand where you're coming from but I wholeheartedly disagree. If the military isn't under complete control of the elected civilian leadership we'll shortly be under military rule. The day we made the president the leader of his own military was the day the constitution was ratified and it has been the best system of government and control of military power ever devised by man. Yes it's in shambles now but I wouldn't ever change the structure, just the people.
