"Fence Around Tennessee"?????

2% of the NFL population is an average share right? 50 states, 2% per state, 100% total, right? That's not horrible.

That's not how that works. Texas, California, and Florida take up almost 35% alone.

Also, that isn't NFL "population".... that is all drafted players since 1988. The population thing would be worse for Tennessee high school players.... we don't have that many at all in the NFL right now. :cray:

Can you name a player that played at UT and was drafted... and a player that played at UT and was NOT drafted.... and a scenario in which you would rather have the undrafted player playing for UT next year in their prime rather than the drafted player? I certainly can't name a situation like that....

Ainge is in the NFL, Clausen isn't. Who would you rather have?

Casey Clausen had much better talented teams.... our talent level didn't drop off as bad until 2005 (Ainge's soph season). Look at the stats. Our NFL draftees have dropped off big time since 2005.

I'd take Casey Clausen, amongst others (not sure if Kelly was drafted or no), over Jerry Colquitt.

It doesn't matter what total percent comes from Texas, Florida, and California. There can only be 100%, and only 50 states for players to be from. 2% is the average.

Except they made two SECCG appearances in his time.

Auburn and LSU aren't closer. It takes well under 6 hrs to get from Memphis to Knoxville.

Just telling you what Google maps says. Distance is closer to all 7 (Ole Miss, MSU, Vandy, Ark, LSU, Bama, Auburn). UK is behind UT by about 30 miles. Drive time might be similar to some of those, but UT is farther away. But regardless, there is a lot of competition in Memphis due to the talent in the area and proximity to a lot of other schools.

MDB is correct, I honestly don't give a crap if we recruit local kids or kids from Tennessee. I just want the best kids that fit this system. I mean I saw both Rogers kids play in HS and also saw Tyler Maples play as well and Maples was twice as good as both of them and never saw the field. So recruiting kids just cause their local isn't a big deal. There have only been a couple kids we lost in the last few years that really have panned out for other schools....Golden Tate and Patrick Turner

what about Don'ta Hightower?

I agree with that. If you don't drive like a grandmother it should take a little over 5 hours to get to Memphis from Knoxville

Mem- Knox is 392mi
Mem- Auburn is 381mi
Mem- Baton rouge is 380mi

sure it's close but the point is the same

Can't see how UK is unless he thinks it's in Louisville and UGA is not even close

My point is that Memphis is very hard to lock down. Other schools like Ole Miss, Bama etc. are able to go in and act like the instate school b/c their parents came come watch them play more often b/c Oxford & Tuscaloosa are closer than Knoxville. And then coaches from schools like LSU and Auburn aren't any further away. It's rare that such a talent center in a state is so far from the state's flagship university.

I mean, I don't really feel like doing a lot of research on the matter. But there are MANY great college football players that aren't going to be great NFL players, I dont think that is too hard to fathom.... So in reference to your post, "don't we want great NFL players?" I say no, I want great college players to play for UT because UT plays college football lol...... They are largely two different games, based on many different factors.

It also hurts that most people in Memphis hate UT.
