Fiesta Bowl Game Thread: #2 Ohio St (13-0) vs #3 Clemson (13-0) (ESPN 8PM EST)

Curious, is this the first time you noticed that call in a game?

the crazy thing is that it doesn't even have to be helmet to helmet - you lead with the crown and even if Lawrence doesn't duck it could still be called. Can't hit a basically stationary person with the crown of your helmet first

Apparently this is too difficult to grasp for some here.

That isn't right. You can hit a QB with your helmet first... it just can't be in the knees while he is in the pocket, and it can't be helmet to helmet. And Wade did not lead with the crown of his helmet, nor did he launch himself into Lawrence. Wade did make helmet to helmet contact, though... so, by the letter of the rule, it is correct... but cheap.

Clemson winning another national title would be worse for UT than LSU or OSU winning it

I don't really have an opinion on Clemson. But I absolutely loathe Ohio and refuse to root for them unless they are playing Bama or Florida.
Historically I despise Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame and FSU. I doubt I would ever want to see them win against any of UT’s biggest rivals in the SEC.

No. Not sure why that's relevant .
And I've complained about these calls for 3 4 years now.

That was a great defensive play negated because of "protection of the game".

Was not malicious at all. Lawrence ducked into it.

Because Lawrence shrunk down into the hit...the facemask and the top or the helmet are inches away from each other.
Lawence ducking doesn't change the angle that Wade's helmet arrives. His head was down. He hit with the crown. It was extremely obvious on replay.

His head was up...but it hit Lawrence's head.

That's what the TARGETING was for.

It's a bogus rule that isn't Lawrence or Wade's fault.

You're telling me the OSU defender's head was up on this play.....if so, please get your freakin' eyes checked.
