Dungy had way more success at Tampa than Gruden.

So........

Why did they fire him again? Oh yeah, so they'd win in the playoffs and have a shot at a Superbowl.

Now, I don't think Gruden walks on water, but to say that Dungy was so much more successful that he got his arse fired too is ridiculous.

That being said, I do think Gruden is the face that could get us over both the recruiting hump and the looking like a junior high squad hump.

If not for tuck rule (Tom Brady) Gruden would have had Oakland in Super Bowl year before he went to Tampa.

Stop acting like NFL and college is the same - it is not.

Any Super Bowl head coach is light years better than what we've had the past 4 seasons.

Could it possibly be longer than that?

Jimmy's List:

Gruden
Petrino
Golden
Strong
Stoops
Mora, Jr.
Fisher

Am I missing something on Fisher? Isn't this his first year in St. Louis? Why would he leave the Rams after one year to rebuild a college program?

I hope he is right. We need a new coach and he needs to be named now IMO. I think if Gruden is not ready to announce he is on board, then throw 2.5 at Petrino and hire the man today. After the fallout last night, every day we wait hurts any chance of a decent recruiting class. If we wait till the 2nd week of January after all the bowl games to announce something...it could set the next guy hired up in a very bad spot.

He won with other people's players. Then when his lack of true coaching ability got exposed he was dumped.

Or we can remember what actually happened. Tampa traded two first round picks and cash to Oakland to get Gruden. They went all in on one year and got the Super Bowl. Following years they had to deal with aging players getting injured, and cash strapped from the salary cap. Not saying he would come in here and be the savior because he is too unproven, but to say his coaching ability was exposed shows ignorance of what really happened.

It's terrible that we have hit rock bottom that Petrino is actually in our top 2. I know the guy can win, but I don't like him period. Sherman's advance through the south left less twisted railroad ties than Petrino will.

I doubt you're gonna find too many people who actually the 'like' the man except for maybe his parents. You're right, he has left a waste land everywhere he's been but I think that's where UT benefits. He is going to come cheaper than normal and I truly believe he realizes he can't F up again and get away with it. UT would be getting the Saint Petrino not the devil Petrino imo. The guy is a proven winner more so than any coach currently looking for a job.

That said, I've got all my fingers and toes crossed that Gruden is our next man.

Yep. But Neven Shapiro ruined that for him.

I like him because he's been in worse situations than the one he'd find himself in at Tennessee. Temple was so poor in football, and support for football, that the Big East booted them out. Golden is the reason they are back where they are at right now. Addazio still benefits from the changes he made and the talent he brought into the program.

Miami? He's doing well considering the program is the NCAA version of a "Dead Man Walking." They are going to get hammered in a way that will make Penn State's punishment look like a slap on the wrist. They are going to get as close to the SMU treatment as we've ever seen.

The fact Golden even has those players buying in right now with that looming over their heads is far, far better than what we have right now.

He isn't the first choice. But he isn't the worst choice either.

I just got flashbacks to January 15, 2010

Gah I'm tired if hearing this crap! So he won 8 games with a ****ty team?! It happens. Maybe we should hire Texas tech's coach? Or Nevada's coach? They went to a bowl game a couple years ago. Or how about Vandy's Franklin? He's winning with the definition of a doormat in the toughest conference in the country. Golden KNEW exactly what he was gettin into at Miami, hell we all knew, you think for a second he had no idea you're an idiot. He jumped on the job because it was his chance, his break at a big job. And despite what's comin for Miami, he has as much talent as any team in the ACC, outside of FSU, and is still thoroughly mediocre. For crying out loud get off Golden's junk.

P.S. Mora isn't coming. Fisher isn't coming.

Well, of course it'd be better than what we've had; however, you're right that NFL and college aren't the same, which adds a lot of unknown to Gruden. Not necessarily a sure fire competing for championships every year hire. Might be; might not be.

Once a Petrino, always a Petrino.

petrino and golden suck.. either of those get hired and we get to look forward to more years of losing to vandy..

I don't think he would lose, he is a proven winner, but he wouldn't be a good character hire, he's screwed too many programs.

Heard on local radio that the SEC had a can`t hire Petrino deal with all AD`s.
Not saying true just repeating what I heard.

It's funny how people act like the end of Gruden's tenure was such a disaster. That roster was leaking at the seams, and he still took them to back to back 9-7 seasons. The year after was gone, they collapsed.

Sorry, I realized right after post he was referring to Jimbo not Jeff, although I doubt Jimbo has any interest despite rumors of his current discontent at FSU.

According to Hyams, Fulmer is expected to take the job after it was announced that Coach Majors is 'stepping down.'
