Finebaum putting out Oklahoma coming after Heupel

From what I remember, there is bad blood specifically between Stoops and CJH. Stoops is still a big part of that program. Idk I’m just not that concerned that he would ever leave for that job.

agreed. He sacrificed the OC to save his brother. The offense wasn’t the issue then, it was the defense. Stoops has always gave me the weasel vibes.

I've been to Norman...

Knoxville > Norman, I don't care HOW MANY "Dead Presidents' someone waves under your nose...

They don't PRINT enough (and the last 2 years they've PRINTED A LOT!)
Exactly. I’ve been to Norman a few times on work trips. Place is flat and uninteresting with tornado sirens everywhere.

If OK for anyone else comes after coach H, then we’ll pay whatever it takes to keep him. The fan support, stadium and culture here is unmatched.

Kind of off topic but with Oklahoma's recent collapse this year, there has to be major concerns with them moving forward. Nebraska has really struggled in the B1G and they are not a marketable location to get recruits. I would not think about this a year ago but could Oklahoma fall into a Nebraska trap with their SEC move?

Don't think CJH is leaving Knoxville unless it's for the NFL, if he has such aspirations. He's feeling the love, family's putting down roots and he's fittin to earn bank!

agreed with this post too. Some coaches are all about the money and that’s the only thing they care about. Huepel doesn’t strike me as that type. He seems like he really cares about the players and actually enjoys teaching them. He’s one of the good ones

Why wouldn't OK come after Heupel? Why wouldn't Auburn? Why wouldn't anybody with an ounce of intelligence?

We have one of the premier play callers and scheme guys as head coach. He is also showing he can develop players and turn around a program on life support. His recruiting is looking solid as well. I am not concerned by those "coming after" him. I am confident he will be retained as UT's head coach.
Why would he want to start over?
He’s on the verge of something special with everything he needs to make that happen and fan support. I’d be shocked if Hypel left. We are just battered at Tennessee and expect bad things to happen.

I totally expect Oklahoma to make an EFFORT to entice Heupel back. They would be crazy not to try. I also totally expect Heupel to give them a NSFW answer

They may try, but he's not leaving. Tennessee is the shortest path to a NC. The NIL is going to kill teams like OK. They just don't have the money to compete. In 20 years OK will be like Syracuse or Army, a former power house that just faded away. Same thing with a lot of top 25 teams. What kind of NIL money is Auburn going to round up? They are a 2nd school in a poor state. Alabama will struggle in the NIL world even if Auburn wasn't a factor.

Why would he leave now with all this momentum going into the program?

There’s nothing to gain by leaving for Oklahoma considering they’re fixing to move to the SEC any way.

We have great fan support, resources, and great leadership in Danny White. Not to mention he has a prized QB coming in next year with a lot of returning talent.

Why go back to a place that’s already turned on you once before?

He wouldn't. My post is pro Heupel staying. It also acknowledges there will by many teams with Heupel high on the 'want' list.

I thought Venables and Oklahoma were a match made in Heaven??? At least that’s how everybody acted, gushing over him leaving the A-she-she and Dabo’s little fiefdom to go coach there.
Surely, they’ll give him a little time to get established one way or another

Venables is a lot like Pruitt.

Great DCs with a lot of talent to work with but have no business being the man in charge of a program.

Another example of the WORST kind of thread on volnation.

The OP entirely mis-represents what his source (Finebaum in this case) says. He does it because he doesn't understand things very well, or because he wants to be salacious and get a lot of attention and traffic, or to curry favor with the fan base, or for whatever reason.

The point is, he completely misleads vn.com. And much of vn.com just gobbles it up without checking the source out for themselves. The handful who take the time to point out the truth are generally ignored.

So fiction becomes 'fact' yet again among the bulk of this on-line fan base. Years from now, folks will be talking about how Finebaum once tried to talk Heupel into leaving Tennessee for Oklahoma.

I'm no fan of Finebaum, but we should at least criticize him for the things he actually does, not the things someone invents about him.

Mods, I personally think these misleading kinds of threads are a place where you could do the community a great deal of good. Up to you, though.

Go Vols!

I give the man credit for staying on the air with that face. You would think he would dress the part but no, 60's style attire. He family must own part of the station or something??

It's just Finebaum's "opinion", trying to get more viewers or clicks. If Oklahoma does come after Heupel, it won't be anytime soon. You need to give a coach at least 3 years or no one else will want the job in the future. I could be wrong but I doubt that Heupel would craw back there. Does anyone watch this guy's show anymore?
Correct. He's just trying to get more people interested in his show. CJH isn't leaving anytime soon.

My concern is the Knoxville climate. He keeps that cough. A dryer climate like outwest would probably be a relief for him.

He hasn’t spoken to Stoops since he was fired. I’m not saying it’s impossible but it’s unlikely he would ever go to OU.

I’ve learned not to make too many predictions in this crazy world called college football, but OK showed Heupel the door once, and if they can Venables after a year, he will see how much loyalty there is in Norman. No question Heupel is a hot commodity right now, and it it realistic that other ADs have noticed what is happening Rocky Top, but I think Heupel has to love what he has here. Ask a certain coach in Oxford about greener grass. Say what you will about CLK, he’s become a good coach and he has a good team, but he has to beg fans to come to the games. I haven’t noticed that to be a problem at Neyland. I think we have to trust people to make mature decisions about their lives based on more than one or two factors.
