If you think the academic standards at UT are any more than just a tiny part of why the football team has fallen apart, you definitely couldn't get into Tennessee, because you are dumb.

Keep your donation and buy a clue. The UTAD came under Cheek in the summer of 2010. Our slide in football began with the 2nd half of the 2001 SECCG.

Our standards for football athletes are no higher than anybody else in the SEC. Maybe we SHOULD raise our standards - we were dead last in the conference in the latest Academic Progress Report.
You need to buy some facts the academic standards for admissions of athletes is higher than those that the NCAA and sec have set. If your so concerned about academics then maybe you shouldnt be on a sports related message board or is this your way of getting revenge for being picked last in dodge ball

azz cheeks has set a way too high entrance standard for our gravy train...football. Hell even Vandy has lowered its standards, Booger man wants us to be the Princeton of the south...not ever going to happen. We can not catch the big SEC dogs in recruiting in any mens sport with another sissy working the AD like Hamilton or Cheeks. I listen to Tony B's station on Saturday mornings. They speak plainly unlike the other shill stations. And they voiced this same comment. Higher standards than most SEC schools=less butts in seats and less money due to piss poor performance because you can not make an even playing field in recruiting/hire dollar tree coaches and give (not entitlement) $6 bigs a year to academia more than most schools in div I. CBJ has his hands tied somewhat because of this. I am not a Dr of sports management this is just what they said and IMHO only. Please discuss and peace.

I think we need to lower standards to match that of the rest of the SEC, but we can see the importance of having some standards. I mean, look at your paragraph as an example. A complete & utter incoherent ramble. So, clearly academics are important to a certain extent.

Study hard & play hard, kids!

I also like how this thread identifies a man who is trying to raise the academic standards of a national university a "booger eater." This stuff is absolutely hilarious.

In fairness to the OP, Cheek is identified as a "booger eater" not because he is trying to raise academic standards at UT, but because he was actually caught on camera eating a booger at a press conference.

Which program-changing football player have we turned away because they couldn't get in? I'll wait.

Did you watch our db's last year?...He would have helped.

He was the second corner behind Waggner in 2011 and was pressed for playing time by Coleman. He may have been an improvement as a second corner in 2012, but not by much.

The point is, the push by Jimmy Cheek for a more prestigious institution is not the problem with our football program, that honor belongs to bad coaching hires and their resulting catastrophes. Additionally, Cheek should not lose his job based on the success (or lack thereof) of a sports team.

I believe the restrictions on JUCO players at UT is a genuine concern...I don't think that UT can go after certain JUCO players because of the transfer rules here...

I don't know the specifics about those rules, but if you're talking about the infamous math class they need to have passed, that's an SEC rule.
