about guards at UT. Guards come to UT and lose their games! This school is a guard graveyard! When is the last time we had a great guard? I don't think we've had a stellar point guard since Marciniak, frankly--what was that, 20 years ago? Moore was athletic, pretty good, but her teams weren't very good. We brought in a JC guard for the Parker years. It's been spotty recruiting at both guard spots and no development. Massengale? Thought she'd be very good but wasn't--soft, not a good defender, etc. Simmons--a shooter and not a scorer, not a great all-around game. Reynolds? Big disappointment. I'm sure all would have benefited from better coaching. They come in highly rated and leave as ...meh. Lawson was probably the best all-around guard we've had since Marciniak.

Don't fault armchair for saying the truth.

As he asks:

When, who was the last guard we trained that was on the level of Moriah Jefferson, or present day: Kelsey Mitchell Kelsey Plumb or Makayla Epps. . . . Not when they signed and began with UT....But....When they left UT?

That is the million dollar question. Which really makes you think about this new class. How will they develop? I think many cannot wait to find out. When pre-season starts this board will be all hyped up just waiting to see what the freshies have to offer. By January/February of next year they could look like a completely different team. Or exactly the same, who knows but that's what makes it exciting and something to look forward to.

but that is the question that bangs around in my head whenever a new highly sought recruit commits to play for Warlick. Do these kids ever watch games she is coaching in?

TN is a great program with great facilities and I get the 'you can help lead us back to the promise land and bring TN back to it's rightful place' is a great pitch, but ... the product Holly puts on the floor is not attractive, and her press conferences are sort of frightening.

...time limit on tradition. We're not going to keep getting top prospects based on what the Vols accomplished 15 or 20 years ago. At some point, if you keep underachieving as we have, top prospects will stop taking us seriously. Frankly, I'm surprised it hasn't happened already. We've become the equivalent of the Notre Dame football program--big tradition, but more of a pretender than contender nowadays. The Irish still get good players, but they are not really a serious title threat (even with their easy regular-season schedule.)--a B program now, if that, not an A.

As for the question of this class staying with us if Warlick to get sacked (please), nearly all would, I predict, after getting assurances from the new coach. That's what new coaches do. It would be ideal of Warlick retired--you then don't have the unpleasantness of a sacking--but I think she'd deluded herself into thinking that the players have been the problem, not the coaching. Listen to her postgame comments--she has nothing to say but that the players didn't make plays. Hell, anyone could say that. More important, the long-term viability of the program is far more important than one recruiting class. I can't believe that that isn't apparent to everybody. That's what at stake here. Losing one or two recruits would be a small price to pay for getting a dynamic new coach who can take us back to the top.

Everyone knows she's not head coach material at this level.......why not get it over with and let her go now?

If Currie had any guts, he'd review the program's performance over the last few years and see how dramatically we've fallen and trundle out the guillotine--or just ask Warlick to resign. But, sadly, he will probably take the safe route and decide to watch Warlick's team next year. Waste of time--another year down the drain.

Unfortunately, this stretch of mediocrity/underachievement has stretched out far longer than it should have, First, PS simply was not herself over the last five years or so that she coached. The program had already slipped NOTICEABLY in the years before her retirement owing to her illness and perhaps other issues--and then the problem was compounded when PS apparently wanted Warlick to coach the team, and then former AD Hart screwed things up even more by giving Warlick an extension just because she got to the elite eight one year. And so now we've been in this transitional/floundering mode for more than a decade.

The assessments are all valid, BUT... with Cooper we win this game.

Your memory and mine are very different. Cooper was a shooting machine, but not much of a scorer or defender. I remember thinking, nearly every time she got the ball "pass it,don't shoot it first thing every time!"

Not to begin to talk about the unforced turnovers.

Can you imagine how bad she would be if she didn't have all americans on her team?

I think nikki fargus should've gotten the first shot at the job. Say what u want but she gets more out of her players with far less talent. And based on her roster shouldn't have made the tournament but did

She does more with far less talent, because she can't get more talented players to come to LSU. Same thing was the problem at Ucla and she was close to the hot seat there as she is at LSU now. On making the tournament, LSU had no business what so ever in the tournament it should have been Michigan

Really, she was close to the hot seat with this record:

2008–2009 UCLA 19–12 9–9 T–4th
2009–2010 UCLA 25–9 15–3 2nd NCAA Second Round
2010–2011 UCLA 28–5 16–2 2nd NCAA Second Round
UCLA: 72–26 (.735) 40–14 (.741)

There was no growth from the beginning of her freshman year to the end. She was still plowing her way through lane fast and out of control. Also she was plagued with fouls almost all of the games because she she didn't know how to play defense without her hands.

You constantly complain about the South, Lady Vols, ladies, etc. holding yourself up as the true champion of women (women's rights).

Yet when someone posts a blatently misogynistic statement, you not only quote it in your response, with your usual negativity, but also fail to address the misogyny exhibited.

Just thought I would mention it.

Yeah, VolNation, I'll duck now:).

She didn't look improved in the Syracuse game to end the season. People here were actually saying that Tennessee would have won if Jordan was playing and Andraya was healthy, which must be a first...

I don't know if the new AD will have the balls to fire her. If not he should pass right on through Tn.

My observation, too. It was painful because you knew what was coming.

I did not quote any misogynistic statement in my comment and have no idea what you're talking about. I saw the statement you cite, but didn't write anything in any way related to it.
