As soon as the press conference is over, Hamilton need to be cleaning out his office. The worst hire in UT history.

Never had a problem with Hamilton. Even after Kiffin quit, no issues from me. However, this search leaves me dumbfounded.

Welcome Coach - We hope you do a great job here at Tennessee. I don't know if Mike Hamilton mentioned it or not, but we are also in need of a new athletic director. I understand you have experience in that position, and the job is yours if you want.

Thanks for being our new Head Football Coach, and New Athletic Director.

I truly hate to say this (and I may turn out wrong, probably not), but we are in for at least 3 more years of hell. What has happened in the last 14 to 15 months(in my opinion) is ridiculous. Let's start with Fulmer (who was at least a decent coach with history). He should have been fired, but a good AD would have had a great hire already lined up at the time when he did it to assure that he wasn't making a mistake by firing a legend at Tennessee. Second, Lane Kiffin should have never been hired to begin with if you look at his background. Third, Kiffin's contract buyout should have never been 800,000 with no stipulations to USC. 800,000 is nothing and I could have seen him loving USC and wanting to return there in the future from a mile away (though I thought USC wouldn't have any interest for a while). Kiffin was at no point in his career to even argue a contract of that sort. And now, Hamilton doesn't have what it takes to hire a proven winner when we need it most. He could have easily shelled out 6 million and got just about anybody he wants with a little bit of talking, and this is the saddest part. Not only did he not only not hire a big name, but he hired a proven loser from Louisiana Tech to be the next head coach. This was done in a rush to salvage our recruiting class: news flash, it isn't gonna happen. He should have just waited or hired Kippy Brown. Hell, Fulmer should have never been fired in the first place looking at where we are now. What's going to happen is a) our recruiting is dead b) we lost 3-5 years c) Hamilton is gone d) Dooley will be lucky to last through next season.
He has done a terrible job with our football program, and I promise you there are people out there who could do much, much better.
We are TENNESSEE, easily a top 10 program historically. We can do much better than this.

I will support this new coach, but Mike needs to pack his bags; this hire is pathetic

It is as clear as orange and white that Hamilton is not going to do anything to Fulmer. The only thing he has done is hire Bruce Pearl and you could add he has not ran off Coach Summit. He makes sure those programs stay focused but the football program which adds more money to the university and pays for all other UT sports other then basketball is not going to do a damn thing to his friend Fulmer. Hey Hamilton in case you have not noticed when the football program is winning the whole city benefits from it. Stores sell more merchantise with UT licensed logos which means more money for the University. The bottom line do your damn job or get the hell out.
We really need to get a petition started. I fully expected Hamilton to aim low, and I'll be damned if he didn't do just that.

Low Ball and Low Aim...that's Hamilton's game.

Dude...what part of FIRED don't you get? You don't fire an employee and then a year later ask them to come run the show. You damn near have to be a retard to think like that.

I would much rather have Kippy. Fire Larry Bird look alike and Dookey NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would rather take our chances at Kippy too if we are going to scrape the bottom of the barrel.

The main thing is he would likely keep the current staff intact and maintain a good level of continuity.

Fail.

UT is better off with Hamilton at AD. He's done a tremendous job supporting all aspects of TN athletics. He's a business guy and makes decisions that are beneficial for the university.

It's not on Hammy that Kiffin and Co. cut and run. It's not easy making a solid hire with only a few days to close. Time, and hence negotiating power, are not on your side.

For the record, I think the Dooley hire was wise. Success at one program doesn't guarantee success at another. And vice versa.

CDD seems to fit the profile of the kind of guy we need at the helm after the current debacle. Let's see what kind of staff can be assembled and go salvage this recruiting class.

These Hamilton rants are tiresome.

I agree that Hammy needs to be shown the door but Dool shouldn't be crucified for Ham's inadequacies. Six million is not easily shelled out unless you're chipping in about three of it per year. And yes, it was definitely time for Phil to go. Anyway, welcome aboard the crazy train....

Time will tell if hiring two young coaches with losing records to be the head football coach at the University of Tennessee is wise or not.

Hamilton saying that Dooley was his first choice is beyond ridiculous. Does he think we are a bunch of morons?

If he poked around these boards a little I bet he could be easily convinced. :lolabove:

I agree though...to claim DD was his first choice is over the top. And everyone knows it's not true.

I promise you there are some very influential boosters *cough, cough, Haslam* that are categorically not morons.

Come on everyone!!! We all know it!!! We all feel it!!! We all have been asking our self this same damn question for months if not years. There is only one damn person to blame for the poor coach choices, investigation, poorly run sports programs, etc, etc, etc. Mike (I am a DUMB ASS) Hamilton. Time to get rid of the DUMB ASS once and for all

I graduated in 1988 and this is the first time I can say I am ashamed to call myself a Tennessee alum............ Drag that fool out and hell put Fulmer in, he loves UT and would put respect back in our programs

Ahhh. It is NOT time. It's almost game time, but let's not sweat this right now. Not a huge deal, although I do agree w/ you a bit. Let's focus on the Ducks just like our team is.

I agree with the idea (though with less colorful language) with the repeated violations against our Athletic Department in Football, Basketball and Baseball it is time for a new AD to run things
