1985 game was a day game we lost 17-10 we also lost in 1984 in Knoxville to them 43-30 in a day game. We have not done well against Florida in the last 50 years that’s for sure in Knoxville or Gainesville.2001 was a 3:30pm game, yes.
Tennessee at Florida was a night game at Gainesville the following years:
1991 (35-18 Florida)
1999 (23-21 Florida)
2005 (16-7 Florida)
2021 (38-14 Florida)
(Note: I presume 1985 was a day game but for some reason I’m having trouble finding any sort of start time noted anywhere online.)
I don't think our roster is nearly as conscious of our record of futility down there as we are. They should be ready.
Elite players don't usually think that way.
I’m curious to see how this is going to work. As much as I hate to say it, it seems that if the B1G can get some of these final details worked out, they’ve done a great job of diversifying their broadcasts on FOX, CBS and NBC. The only thing I don’t like is the Big Noon kickoff . I think it really takes away from the atmosphere when put Penn State vs Ohio State that early or Wisconsin vs Michigan that early. Those should be prime time games. They do. Though it’s worth noting that this year they’re also balancing selections between games from both the SEC and the Big 10 in sort of a transition to only having the latter next year.
Exactly. Our fans make WAY too big of a deal out of it. Florida beat Tennessee a lot in the past because they were better. Frankly, we just sucked. Tennessee will win next year because Tennessee is better and Florida sucks. It's really that simple.
The alt channel hasn't been used for a couple years now
No SEC Alt games listed in week 2 and APSU will be either SEC+ or ESPN+.It wasn’t used at all last year? Wasn’t it generally only used when there are too many games involving conference teams at the same time? That only ever happens in like the first 2-3 weeks of the college football season, if it’s even needed to be used.
none that I recall and none for baseball or basketball either -- everything was SECN plus or ESPN UIt wasn’t used at all last year? Sure. But there’s also several times where UT was equal or just a flat out better team and still loss to UF. It was ingrained in our culture. Luckily I don’t think it is anymore. Still have to go prove it obviously by taking care of business this year. Florida has no talent at QB unless a miracle happens for them. It should be a rather easy win on paper. We will see.
I would love to see MTSU lay a surprise on Drinkwitz. They always seem poised to catch a team off-guard.No SEC Alt games listed in week 2 and APSU will be either SEC+ or ESPN+.

There really weren’t many in which they weren’t just better. We just convinced ourselves that we were as good, in part, because Florida wasn’t really great. Sucks to admit that you’re inferior to a mediocre program, but we were. Now we’re not.
You could argue 2013 and 2015 because of how the teams finished. But Butch Jones threw Peterman out in his first start in the Swamp in 13 and he was totally lost, so no, we weren’t better that day. We had a QB who didn’t have a clue and no support. In 15, they had Will Grier before he was dismissed 2 weeks later. With Grier, they were better than UT. Without him, they probably weren’t.
I really don’t see any other years they beat us when they weren’t just better, unless you go back to about 2002. Maybe further.
Whether we like to admit it or not, Florida has owned Tennessee this century because they were just better. It’s not some curse or psychological hangup. They were better…a fact made worse by the fact that they weren’t even great themselves for many of those years.
