Five-star SG Anfernee Simons visiting this weekend

Most that have talked to him seem to think he will

Wishful thinking! Lottery pick - multi million dollar contract..... He can do the college thing after he earns his millions.....

If he does play in college then I do not believe it will be in Orange..... I will gladly eat my words if I'm wrong.

Somebody outlined the difference in compensation between lottery picks and late first/second round. Also they pointed out that he's much closer to being a lottery pick after spending a year in college.

I haven't seen him projected a lottery pick anywhere. Late 1st to mid 2nd is what I've seen.

Hot take here but a part of me believes this.

He doesn't need to come play for Barnes. It won't benefit him if he wants to be one and done.

Maybe I am wrong but with the team we have coming back I don't see Barnes having the patience to let him be the "guy".

Barnes can help him get a lot better, but I doubt that he'll let the team be built around Simons. If Simons came to TN he won't necessarily put up amazing stats, but he'll be a much better ball player when he leaves. Barnes will likely trust Turner and Bowden much more than a true freshman and isn't likely to sit those two just to get minutes for Simons. Simons likely gets Daniel's minutes and will have to work very hard to earn more.

I don't disagree. So if that is the case can he get what he wants individually out of Tenn for one year?

If what TGO said plays out, he would be better off going somewhere else if he indeed plans to leave after 1 year.

He has had some one and done guys in the past. Durant, Avery Bradley, Cory Joseph. Also some 2 year guys. I could see Barnes having the patience because he could see that as the missing piece.

Yea it is my belief that Barnes really has changed over the last 10-15 years and the one and done player will have more trouble than those guys. JMO

It kind of reminds me of Dale Ellis. He could have gone to the NBA after his junior year, but he came back for his senior year to work on his defense under Devoe. But Ellis made that decision as a 21 or 22 year old man, not a 17 or 18 year old kid.

Whatever Simons decides , I hope he doesn't drag it out too long.

One factor has to be the teammates that he'll be practicing against. He might have to consider how much better he'll be after going up against Bone, Bowden, Turner, and Darrington in practice. Possibly Johnson, Schofield, and Pons as well. Does he want to go to college for development or to have a shot at a championship? How important is it to him to log a lot of minutes? Is he focused, motivated, and a hard worker -or- is he going to Mostella?

No problem. Definitely an exceptional case that you don't see all that often; a kid with talent to legitimately be drafted who meets the requirements.

I still don't think he goes to the draft myself. I just think he'll weigh the risks of sliding into the 2nd rd with no guaranteed money vs going to school for a year and being a potential lottery pick.

The situation at UT is set up on a tee for Simons to take advantage of. Highly experienced head coach that's put multiple players into the association. Lots of playing time available. An experienced supporting class. The chance to have a huge impact on a team and be show cased. A large NBA-like arena. Very good schedule. A great, rising conference. Access to world class training facilities.

It's hard to say what he wants and what street agents, AAU & prep school coaches, shoe reps, World Wide Wes, and who knows whom else has his ear and what he's being told. Teenagers are unpredictable.

When Barnes was recruiting Daniel he told him that he wasn’t guaranteed any starting spot, any minutes, nothing...that he would have to work for it all in practice. And to Daniel’s credit that didn’t bother him at all and he chose to come here over other schools that did promise him minutes etc.

My point being that I’m sure Barnes has told Simons from day 1 that he’s going to come and and work for and playing time, and that he’s not guaranteed anything...so I’m assuming Simon is good with that or he wouldn’t have visited here. Now does that change as he visits other schools and they make him promises, we shall see.

A lot of posters making good points in this thread. As I continue to read, I unfortunately lose sight of the incentive for Simons to come here. He would have to be 100% ready to be an impact player from day 1 for UT to be worth his time IMO. Hard to imagine him coming in and taking over Bone, Turner, Bowden, but then again, look at Trae Young.

Plenty of minutes to go around at the 1 and 2 between all of them. Daniel is averaging 22 min per game. Simons could take all of those minutes plus a couple more.

If he’s as good as his ranking then he is a starter day 1. He would send any/all of those guys to the bench.

Barnes will let him shoot like Durant if he has the talent. If he earns it Barnes will get him touches. I doubt he offered him anything concrete except that he would be highlighted like that if he earns it.

Yeah Barnes let that snake have 36 mpg and throw up almost double the shots than anyone on the team minus Abrams.
