'19 FL DE Khris Bogle (UF signee)

I’d wager he’s referring to the underwhelming recruiting Mullen did at MSU, but with the propensity to develop those guys into above average teams. Still early, but the same trend in Mullen’s recruiting is starting to emerge.

Can't win the SEC overachieving with 3 stars.

Me too. Remember when people thought the only reason Dan wasn't bringing top talent to Miss St was because it was Miss St. Now he's at Florida (been on the job longer than Pruitt btw) and we have a way better '19 class than Florida so far.

Yep. Meanwhile, MSU has the 16th ranked class in the country, including 4 four-star commitments.

They appear to be in position to take a step forward post-Mullen.

The bar was lower for Mullen because he was at Mississippi State. He always had a competitive team with less talent. He won't get that same pass being at Flordia. I really hope he sucks for 3 years and just drives Florida into a 10 year depression.

He showed you could get ranked #1 in the country with them.

this. the recruiting was the biggest ? with Mullen. and so it appears it still is ( for now anyway).

the guy can coach though. i'm loving the recruiting ills for them right now, and certainly hope it continues. i'm not yet ready to write him and UF off completely.

Not really...He is slightly better than Butch Jones

i mean, ok...but butch jones never...ever...evah, evah....gets Miss St. to #1 in the country while coaching in the SEC West during the time period that Bama, Auburn LSU have all won and played for multiple national titles.

And it was the most overrated team in the history of college football. They beat #8 LSU at the beginning of their collapse. Then they beat #6 A&M, who finished the season with 5 losses. Then they beat #2 Auburn, who also finished the season with 5 losses.

MSU got to #1 because they played a series of overrated teams. They were nowhere near the best team in the country, which is proven by the fact that they finished that season with 3 losses including back-to-back losses to Ole Miss and Georgia Tech.

That being said 10-3 at MSU is a helluva feat, no matter how you slice it. Mullen also deserves credit for the development of Dak Prescott. He's one of the best quarterback developers in the country, but I'm glad he's at Florida because I'm convinced that he isn't good enough to take them to the top.

This coming from a Mississippi guy who is very familiar with MSU's accomplishments under Mullen. He'll have a tough time recruiting because he's quirky, and he really is a lot like Butch Jones. Just a much better QB coach.

I do give credit to Mullen for the development of Dak Prescott... He's one of the best quarterback developers in the country.

it's Mississippi State. it's all relative.

Yeah, I'd just edited my post to give him more credit.. but the guy is not Chris Petersen.

oh,i agree. i think Mullen is rightfully criticized for the recruiting, and i don't think it was awful at MSU. my take on that was, i didn't think he liked recruiting all that much, MSU didn't have the same pressure to haul in top 10 classes, so how much effort, really, was put in to it, competitively speaking anyway? why go up against guys that were going to Bama, Auburn, LSU, GA etc....when you can bring in "your type" and develop.

that wont' work at UF, but the pull to UF is much different than at MSU, so maybe he recruits better just because he's at FL??

anywho. i think he's a good football coach, and going from MSU to a school like UF (or TN for that matter), he would probably be a perennial 9 win coach. and that may just have more to do with him being at a school like that, than the school getting a coach like him.

we'll see.

In the spirited “Mullen is a home run hire!” vs “Mehlen can’t recruit.” debates, the former’s fallback was NO ONE can recruit at Mississippi State...a SEC level recruiter can. Damn good coach, but like Cut lacking the SEC recruiting CEO chops.

We should already have one as bad as they’ve been but we are due a a nice winning streak against the gators. Hopefully Pruitt can do it.

Nope. Mullen did about as well at Mississippi State as you can do. They'll be lucky if they're ever on that level again.
