‘23 FL OT Francis Mauigoa (Miami commit)

There is nothing legit about Miami's NIL. Its one guy paying every recruit he can buy and that is the definition of what the NCAA wants to prohibit.

And that’s the big problem. Miami is basically telling the NCAA to piss off. Which is what many on here have said we should do about the Pruitt investigation.

We are not in a position to do that simply because The NCAA would love to make us the poster. Think about that.. do we wanna drag this crap out another two years

I agree with you on building something special. I love Heupel and this staff. But we need players like Mauigoa to win at a high level. When you say winning on the field, I assume you are not talking about beating Vandy, SC and UK. I assume you are talking about beating UF, UGA and Bama yes? Well if that’s the case then we have got to get these high end players. We need these guys to beat those teams. But it seems like the bidding war thing is gonna be a real thorn in our side.
Why are we still lumping UF in with UGA and Bama? They’re not even close to that level anymore. I get that they’ve had our number, but Vegas thinks we beat them this year. And they certainly aren’t setting the world on fire in recruiting right now. Some of their fans are already turning on Napier before he even coaches his first game because of it.

You gonna use this same rhetoric every time we miss on a top target? This post is akin to the “oh well we didn’t want him anyway” type. Yes we landed a stud in Echols. Guess what? He is a 2024 recruit. There is no guarantee he sticks with us. Many times guys who commit that early end up decommitting.

Is our class good? Yes. And we aren’t done. Still got some really stud players on the hook. But the bottom line is we got screwed yet again today. We got used yet again as a stepping stone for a raise. And you know what? It sucks. This wasn’t some diamond in the rough prospect where we were fighting the likes of Missouri, NC state and Northwestern for. This was an absolute stud at a HUGE position of need that USC, Bama, UGA, MIami and just about every other big time program wanted.

So you can use the oh well every team misses thing all you want. And while that’s true it’s not the same. It seems Bama has missed on a few of its top targets. But guess what? Their class will easily still be top 3-5. And the fact is we are not gonna get to the point of ever being a serious threat in the East without at the least top 10 classes.
You saying that my statements are like the "we didn't want him anyway" crowd, would be like me saying that your statements are like the "We missed on a five star, so we're not getting anybody" crowd. My point is that we are building a very nice class. Landing Nico has made some people delusional in the thought that we would immediately land all these other 5 stars. Were we in it? Yes we were. But we were not in serious contention until after Nico committed. That's a short time frame, when others staffs had established relationships and were in consideration for a year or more. Then you are also impressed by Miami paying more than anyone else for recruits, and feel that it's what we should be doing. I believe doing that is unhealthy for a program and unsustainable. I guess we'll have to see. But I choose to be realistic about where our program has been, where it is currently, and where it appears to be headed. You know what? I still like what I'm seeing.

Football pays the bills. I was under the impression the last 40 years of me being a Vol fan since 1982 that we were a football school first and foremost.
Dickey was never tasked with conducting a real football search. He gets too much credit for what Majors and Fulmer did

Because Florida still owns us and lives rent free in our heads no matter what kinda bad shape they are in. Would anybody be really shocked if Napier and them came into Neyland and won? No absolutely not because you have seen that movie so many times now over and over again. It starts with beating Florida and getting that series turned around and as much I like the job that Heupel is doing so far he really needs to beat a rebuilding Florida team this year in Neyland or the honeymoon is over.

So what’s your explanation then? Since Fulmer was fired, who is to blame for us being irrelevant?

What’s your “explanation”?

What exactly has Plowman and White done that caused us to be “irrelevant”?

Are you saying they’re the reason why we got out bid for recruits? Since you’re so hung up on the administration.

Yes we are building a nice class. I really like this class. But players like Mauigoa are the program changers like Nico are. I realize it was because of Nico we got in this. But the fact is we didn’t land him. Miami put up more money. We have been told Bama and UGA have been giving tons of cash and cars for a long time right? Seems like it’s completely sustainable for them.

Saban is the master cheater right? That’s what’s been echoed on this board forever right? Well had it been sustainable for him at Bama?

Right when this was happening, I ran upon a wreck where two people were killed. Just doesn’t matter that much in the whole scheme of things. I will be the loudest cheerleader for the players who choose to be Vols.
I heard that, I hate it. I heard they was on a motorcycle, is that true?

Why can’t you try and answer my question?

Whose the one that fired Fulmer in the first place? Had he not been forced out, we’re stuck with Pruitt for another year.

Plowman and DW have very little to do with NIL, regardless what those stupid rumors are saying.

It’s only been over a year since we hired a new athletic director but yeah, let’s blame them.

Correct. We have to start beating the big 3 at some point. Florida may be the best chance over the next couple of years. But we also have to win more than 8 regular season games. We haven't done so since 2007. We will start winning 9-10 regular season games and our kids start becoming 1st round picks again we will win our fair share. Don't think we are too far away either.

It would've been nice to have a 5* gaurd, but no guard is worth what's being reported. Mauigoa is good, but he is not a program changing player. Comparing his impact to the impact of a QB like Nico is just wrong. Not many, if any, offensive gaurds are game changing playmakers. His major impact would've been on the perception of our recruiting.

. And Pruitt and Fulmer would’ve been brought back for the 2021 season if not for the “McDonald Money bags”. The administration always keeps a coach one year too long, Butch should’ve been fired after he lost to Vandy in 2016, Dooley after he lost to Kentucky in 2011 and Fulmer in 2005 after he went 5-6 with one of the most talented teams in the country that season. So I guess we should be thankful for the McDonald bags or we could still have Pruitt as coach right now and Fulmer as AD.
