'19 FL QB Brian Maurer (Tennessee signee)

Why won't they give him any reps this year?

Think the other two have a better understanding of the playbook. JMHO. But the kid can play. The couple of practices I’ve been to, Shrout can sling the rock. His arm is strong. Think his main issues were his footwork.

Maybe Hank can chime in too. Think Hank has seen Shrout perform well at practices as well.

I’ve just been a spectator a few times and what I’ve seen from him, Ive liked what I saw. Now maybe there is other issues or stuff he can work on that keeps him on 3rd team, so I don’t know.

Goff and Mahomes were 0-20 against top 25 opponents while in college. Man they’re terrible QB’s aren’t they?

They also put up eye popping stats..They both just played on Medicare teams In 3 years Goff put up 12,000 yards and 96 TD's. Mahomes put up 9000+ yards and 71 TD"s combined in his So and Jr year. Not sure that's a comparison that can be made. He's nowhere close to their level. He's made some good strides and doesn't turn the ball over but he's not even in the same hemisphere as those 2.

Didn’t say he is. Point is that W/L have more to do than just with the QB

Looks like a kid that can make all the throws if given time. Has the ability to extend plays when necessary. Can get some yardage with his legs. Fundamentals are above average for sure. He should be ready to go in 2-3 years. At minimum QB room is getting some much needed competition. Looks really good and deserves a 4th star.

Seems like he'd have a lot more INTs if he was as bad at these things as you claim.
Why? He doesn't anticipate. He doesn't throw receivers open. And... they seldom let him throw risky passes or run plays that depend on him making a read. The last staff and this one throw a lot of screens to the outside. They throw the ball down the sideline against single coverage. Rarely do they throw crossing routes or slants with JG. Though he clearly has the arm, they don't throw quick outs, hitches, or deep outs very often.

He has the arm to make all the throws. The reason he is not being allowed to make all the throws... is between his ears.

Reactions: vols 30
Tennessee quarterback commit Brian Maurer announced that he was shutting down his recruitment and signing with the Vols in December. Maurer is an EE, so the Florida native will get key early reps in the spring. It wasn’t talked about much, but UCF tried to make a real play for Maurer 6 weeks ago. With all the talk re: Taulia Tagovailoa and Tennessee, the Knights worked to convince Maurer to stay home, but once the Tagovailoa talked died down, that sales-pitch didn’t go very far.

Lol at you not understanding the point

Those two put up numbers despite the records. JG isn't put up any numbers..

Point is....when I made my comments a couple of days ago in this thread about JG not being the answer, you and a few others disagreed. How do you feel now?
