Florida has reached out to Bob Stoops, Chip Kelly already

Perhaps. I doubt Chip Kelly answers his phone with "Of course I'll coach your team, who is this?" I mean, I'm sure he will consider the state of the programs, facilities, fan base, level of control, recruiting situations, current talent.

...

You're probably right.

Do not want (Chip Kelly). And I highly doubt he goes to Florida.

It’s hard to understand anyone not wanting Chip Kelly. The guy was 47-6 at Oregon and set all sorts of NCAA offensive records. It would be an instant improvement for UF or UT.

And also, he wasn’t exactly a bust in the NFL. Folks don’t realize he had two 10-6 seasons with the Eagles. In the NFL, those are excellent seasons. The wheels fell off in his one season at San Fran with a 2-14 record, but the track record for success is the standard with him, not the outlier year with San Fran.

Kelly was much more successful in the NFL than Spurrier or Saban.

He is a HOMERUN hire for any program.

Mullen is the right target. If they finish with 9 wins this year, which is likely, it will be Mullen’s 4th year with 9 wins. Miss St. only has 5 9-Win seasons in its history prior to Mullen. Dude can coach

Ah. 9 wins. That’s the target we should be going after.....how Many championships has he won again?

You are, what your record says you are. Start from there. Don't hire a coach because you think he will be better because he's at TENN. Better be a winner before he gets here.

Buddy I hate to be the one to tell you this but we haven’t won the East when Georgia has Richt, Florida had Ron Zook and SC had Lou Holtz....it’s not like these school need quality coaches to beat the Vols

You just named two HOF coaches bro.

Manning as Coach. Fulmer as recruiter. Bring on some great talent. Make some noise from the fan base and bring glory to Tennessee.

I don't want to start another hiring tread but have a question to ponder. With Petersen's children getting older and having proven himself at Washington, I don't think he is completely off the list.
My question, would you rather hire Petersen or Kelly or Patterson

:)I was originally a huge Chip Kelly supporter until I read his complete background. He does not mix well with people and does not like to recruit. Apparently his success at Oregon was mostly due to his assistants.

That Chip doesn’t end up at Florida.

With Kirby at GA, Chip at UF, and Willy at SC, we’d never win the East again. Pray hard that Chip goes to UCLA and that we don’t botch this next hire.

Problem is, at a place like Florida, he wouldn’t have to recruit very hard to be successful.

If his record was 47-6 in the SEC then yes he would be a homerun hire. But he was in the pathetic Pac 12.

My understanding of the situation currently is that the early signing period is having an impact on the decision making.

IF....Kelly checks out (interest is mutual and he gets a thumbs up from administration and boosters) and IF.....Kelly wants the job, they will hire Chip Kelly.

If not, they will enter the world of hiring a coach who is currently employed.

Was Mullen ever a formal candidate for the Florida job before they hired Muschamp or McElwain? There was a lot of media speculation he might go there, but I think it was just that. I don't recall him ever being actually pursued by Foley.

I think it would be extremely curious this time if they didn't take a long look at Mullen. His old boss at Miss St is now the AD at Florida. What does that say about Mullen if Scott Stricklin didn't at least strongly consider him?

Chris Petersen, Dan Mullen, Chip Kelly, Gary Patterson, Justin Wilcox, Frost, I could keep going. All would be better then what we have had the last 10 years.

Did you even read my post? Before Mullen, State had only won 9 or more games 5 times in the history of their program. Do you honestly think that’s a program that is on par with Tennessee in its ability to win big? If so then you don’t have clue

Mississippi State has 1 SEC football title.....ever.

They won the SEC in 1941.

They have a losing record against every conference opponent except Vandy and Kentucky.

The ceiling there is only so high

UF is the third best job...in the state of Florida right now. I think people over rate it. Yes there's talent all over the state, but Knoxville is close enough to Georiga, Virginia, SC, NC, Kentucky, Alabama to recruit well also. Plus TN as a state is producing very good talent now days. Also, its the only big boy school in the state. UT > UF. No, I do not have orange colored glasses on.

Ah I see. So becaue a coach is mediocre at a bad program, he should be considered when we desperately need a great coach?

Don’t understand the logic here...you’re hoping that his above average/averafe perdormance at Miss St translates to somehow being a good coach at Tennessee when we have been atrocious?

Just logic isn’t really happening here. A lot of hope and bull****.

I know the school's reputation is not what wins games. If so Fl, Ok, Ala, USCw, TN, etc would not go through a decade of loses. The coaches losing at those schools are not all bum coaches. You still have to be an excellent coach to win championships. Kinda reminds me of Sumlin who wins some he shouldn't but sometime during the season he loses some he shouldn't.

It's not above average or average performance at Mississippi State.

It's exceptional performance.

I'm not arguing that you hire him. What I am arguing is he's a damn good coach and the belief that what he has done at Mississippi State isn't that big a deal. It's a big deal.

He’s my #2, with Les Miles and Gruden being tied for #1.
