Florida in trouble

Folks, let's get our facts straight. It is, at least at this point, patently incorrect to say that "Florida is in trouble" over this. From the article:

"We were made aware of some information in early June that we reported to law enforcement and we then shared with the NCAA and the SEC," athletic director Jeremy Foley said in a statement released Monday morning to ESPN.com. "At this time we have no information that has indicated that there are any compliance issues for the University of Florida."
Florida law enforcement could be investigating whether the state's agent registration laws were violated.

If this did happen it is immediately a problem for Pouncy and the agent. But if UF didn't know about it and complied with all requirements to prevent it and it happened anyway, and if Florida reported it when it found out about it, then no harm will come to UF, as it shouldn't.

No actually you are in trouble because regardless of what happens here you will be marked down as an offender. If something happens in the near future then youll be deemed repeat offenders. It is a mark on your record regardless of UFs involvement. So, yes, you are in trouble. Furthermore the least that comes out of this is a vacated bowl victory. I think a few schollies but nothing too major. If UF didnt know about it then it can indicate that Meyer runs a loose program. Which is also not good.

One more point. This could also open up a can of worms that UF doesnt want opened. If the NCAA finds a hint of something else you know they will investigate

My guess is the "agent" in question was undoubtedly a racist Tea Party member sent to sabotage Florida football by offering every player they could money and AK-47's.

No scholly reductions will result from this.

Title of the thread is "Florida in trouble," and that is not true, at least not yet. :crossfingers:

Any time the NCAA comes sniffing around your program it is very likely trouble as just about every program has their skeletons in the closet. That's how I took the title but admit the OP could have meant something different.

Man, that would almost be funny if the Pouncey's mother wasn't white.

This really isn't an institutional issue, is it? If the player took money from an agent (no one affiliated with the university), isn't this really a player misconduct issue and not a potential violation by UF?

I am, however, looking forward to more righteous indignation from Urban Myer. Like someone said above, I guess he'll ban every reporter that even thinks about the incident (Tebow's divine powers of mind-reading will be used to identify the offenders).

But seriously, even if there was a violation by the Gators, when you consider how long it took the NCAA to finally decide that they were going to hit USC with sanctions, the penalties for this incident would probably hit sometime around the 2018 season.

Well when one of your players takes a $100k I think you are in trouble. Question is how much. And it appears right now it won't be much but it is still "trouble".

To be fair, the NCAA had plenty of evidence to sort through in the Southern Cal case.

UF should know it's fate no later than 2016.

The joke comes from the politics forum, if you haven't spent time their recently you will not understand it. His mothers color doesn't factor into the joke at all, it's a tongue and cheek shot at LG.

I have a theory on why you don't post very often, but I'll keep it to myself.

To your point, this is one of several CFB mesage boards I post on.

You do realize it's possible to post on several message boards on a variety of topics...or maybe not...

Florida may get a slap on the wrist, but since they reported it and it was an isolated incident there really isn't much to get worked up about.

Besides, if you put Tennessee in their shoes, how would it be Tennessee's fault if a player up and took this money, and the school then reported it? Players are not slaves.
