Florida is going after Willie Taggart

Well, if only that is how it happened. Who exactly would you hire and exactly how much do you think it would cost? Interesting enough...LSU's top 2 targets, which were slam dunks(?)are a combined 6-9 this season. If you include their fourth target....a combined 7-17. Jimbo, Herman, and Fedora.

Interesting that Coach O has somehow gotten 6 wins...they are in a tougher conference...and LSU fired their coach. (I will note texas also fired their coach)

2 of the 3...homeruns might not make it to bowl game and its possible none of them do...texas has some tough games coming up.

Have you considered the possibility that maybe you don't know how this works as well as you think?

I for one have no idea whether it will work out for LSU longer term -the personnel is not where it needs to be, but they are surviving. I can honestly say there is very littledoubt in my mind that Les would have been a disaster this year with this personnel....not sure Jimbo or Herman or Fedora would be doing better.

Florida and Tennessee do not have quite the same options LSU did, LSU was happy with a good portion of its coaching staff....Shannon is not a bad dc....there really isn't many options out there. Anyone can fire...hiring is the hard part.

Man y'all hired the DL coach and gave him a huge buyout when he should of just been happy to be there since he basically won the lottery already

But hey he talks like a shrimp boat captain he's one of us!!!

He's doing okay in my book, he doesn't have an easy job.. he is going to need to finish the deal this year and get busy recruiting - clearly LSU is missing some meat in the trenches. Its going to take a year or two to reload upfront on both sides of the ball, but they are winning (surviving) while probably being outmatched by most of the SEC in the trenches.

Nobody is giving Coach Oregron anything - he is coaching and I would say they have got the team to turn around about a month ago. He/they need to close out the season strongly, this week is no joke though.

Winning the lottery is getting a long term contract at Florida and them paying you not to coach. imo Or better yet, paying them to coach other teams like South Carolina. I actually agree the buyout was a tad high but in the big scheme of things by the end of year 3 its only about $5m, which he probably has justified that amount of time anyway... or the talk would be his buyout is too low.

Who knows how this works out long-term. I thought he did B+ last year, the only downer was the Florida loss... his job this year is actually much tougher and I would have probably given him a D until a month ago... they are surviving... without the meat in the trenches I would probably give him a solid B so far this year but he needs to close strongly.

I ask this every time it comes up, but what is the alternative? Or was the alternative? That is when the cockroaches scramble.... The FIRING IS THE EASY PART, I said last year I thought what LSU did made about as much sense as anything I could think of. He's doing fine, but if he is so bad why did Florida lose? Should have been an easy win. LSU's alternatives are a combine 7-17 this year - Fisher, Herman and Fedora.

He has a tough job, they are going to have to survive until they get more meat in the trenches. We'll see how they close out the season, they are at least playing hard at this point. He is now 12-4 with LSU (taking over for a fired coach) with 5-2 against top 25 with 3 in a row - the Troy loss might actually end up being a very good thing. He just needs to finish the season strong and see where it goes.

I am not an unrealistic fan who thinks LSU is going to go undefeated or win championships every year - matter of fact, I think that would be a horrible thing.

Almost immediately after Florida and Jim McElwain parted ways Sunday, Dan Mullen emerged as the front-runner for the Gators' head coaching job.

The Mississippi State frontman was the offensive coordinator for Urban Meyer with Florida when the school won national championships in 2006 and 2008, and worked under Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin with the Bulldogs.

When asked about the Florida opening Monday, Mullen focused on praising the Mississippi State experience.

"I'm really happy here," Mullen told Robbie Faulk of the Sun Herald. "I think when you look at what we have in the program and the administration. I haven't really thought much about it. I've been here long enough. As the year goes on it gets in to that silly season and who is going where."

The old adage of not knowing what you have until its gone may ring true for many, but not for Willie Taggart and his connection to the sunshine state.

The Oregon head coach, who spent four years as head coach at South Florida, had his name pop up among rumored candidates to replace Jim McElwain as head coach at Florida, but Taggart has no plans to leave his current job, sources told Aaron Fentress of NBC Sports Northwest.

Taggart denied having been contacted by Florida during his press conference Monday and reaffirmed his commitment to Oregon.

"I have not been contacted by anyone," he said. "The only AD I've been contacted by is Rob Mullens, and I love that guy. I'm committed to the University of Oregon and focused on Washington, a big-time game for us this week."

Yeah usually the more a coach is saying he's happy where he is you can count on a press conference a few days later announcing him as the new coach! lol

The things with Mullen are these:

1. He doesn't need to win every year, he got a raise last year on a 6-7 record and an extension
2. He is top 10-15 paid in the country already, getting paid more than Butch and the Shark
3. Very little pressure
4. He is probably due another raise he just beat LSU and he is probably on his way to 9 wins
5. Nobody knows what his buyout is
6. He hired Jimmy Sexton last year

Add up 1 through 6 = lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Why would he take the job at Florida for even $6-7m?

Coaching in the east vs the west has to be appealing it ya that might be it

You wanna pay his 9.4 million buyout?...Be my guest!

UF saved about that much firing Mac with cause so technically yes they could do it

But I'm not exactly convinced he's the guy we need after 2 impressive wins

Since he is almost done with his 9th year at MS and he is probably setup for another extension (I believe at MS, the longest contracts can only be 4 years) I would think he has a pretty good deal... maybe the best in college football.

He has only had a winning record in the SEC one year - this year might be his second. He has a great gig - limited pressure, great money, they'll put up a monument of him if they ever go the SEC championship game.

Florida is now onto its 4th coach since he has been at MS, its a huge gamble to leave, you certainly don't do it without a huge contract. imo

I have seen no evidence that Florida has fired him for cause, maybe I missed something.

The fact that he and sexton left 8 million on the table didn't tip u off

Where? Show me, don't tell me. All I have is you saying he was fired for cause, maybe it has happened but now you are just saying someone left $8m on the table, who did?

Odds on Florida's next coach:

44601 Dan Mullen +350
44602 Scott Frost +700
44603 Mike Norvell +700
44604 Dino Babers +800
44605 Bob Stoops +800
44606 Matt Campbell +800
44607 Jeff Brohm +800
44608 Chad Morris +800
44609 Willie Taggert +900
44610 Chip Kelley +1000
44611 Mike Gundy +1400
44612 Charlie Strong +2000
44613 Randy Shannon +2000
44614 Lane Kiffin +5000
44615 Urban Meyer +20000
44616 Steve Spurrier +20000
44617 Tim Tebow +30000

Tim Tebow... that would be hilarious

Interesting no Chip Kelly...

If Dan Mullen gets hired a lot of people think Tebow could come in at some capacity and start coaching.

Why would Sexton leave 8 million on the table otherwise? :loco: You don't leave that much buyout money on the table unless you are fired for cause or just want out either way we saved a lot of money.

You are now saying through another account someone left $8m on the table but you have provided anything to back that up... now pony up. Actually, the Shark Lover can leave for nothing if that is what is agreed upon.

Why are you using two accounts?

(About 5 minutes from being put on ignore list.)

Two accounts? What are you even talking about? Ask one of the mods to IP check and it will clearly show we are two different people. But I guess when your argument has no leg to stand on you have to go this route.

Report: Jim McElwain may get just $4 million, not full buyout - Alligator Army

4mill out of 12.7 million. :eek:lol:

None of that is fact, that is a paper saying it. :eek:lol:

IPs can be changed and hidden via VPN... now show me the evidence. Pony up, where Florida has said they have fired him "for cause". Maybe they did, I haven't seen it. I have not claimed he would seek more than $4m or has, Idk, the contract has a buyout... the buyout after this season appears to be $12m+.... I have no idea, if another agreement is in place behind the scenes... neither do you. The contract actually specifies the steps to be taken, if they have cause - at this point, it doesn't appear that has happened. My take is an agreement has been made, if not Florida could be in a world of hurt.

If they have cause, the would owe him nothing.

Time is up, put both on ignore.
