Why do coaches do what they do? To win.
He's not winning a championship at MSU. Dude is paid, regardless. You play to win.
No, they coach because they are getting paid, generally, winning is only one possible outcome. If winning is alll they care about, they would just quit - go coach pee wee football for free. If you don't think this is a business and a very big business for the coaches and their families, I don't know what to tell you.
Your insistence that coaches only care about being paid is puzzling. Are you a football coach?
I have no clue whether Dan Mullen wants to leave MSU or not. But it is certainly plausible to believe that he has made enough money in his career that he wants something more than just getting paid. A championship of some sort (SEC, National). If so, why wouldn't he seriously consider Florida or Tennessee or another SEC school?
Please see where I say, "generally". If you are puzzled that coaches in today's world want big money, I don't know what to tell you.

Sure, all Power-5 coaches want (and should receive) big money. I thought you meant 'generally winning is one possible outcome' but now I see you meant, 'they coach generally because they are well paid'.
I agree that it will take a lot of money to move Mullen - that is why he hired Sexton. But if he was 100% sure he would stay at MSU, then he really doesn't need Sexton either.
You are right. Nobody has ever said that before. I thought for sure he was a lock. Thanks for straightening that out.Florida will get Iowa State's coach, cause they actually care about winning. While we're at it, Gruden's not coming here. You heard it here first folks. Save this post so I can tell you guys I told you so.
If I'm wrong, than the internet failed me.
