Florida Southern vs. Tennessee 1:00pm **Official Game Thread**

Good game! Glad the Vols won. I hope its nothing but wins for the Vols today. I dont think that is asking to much.
Is it just me or does this team not look like the lock down D type of team we had last year? I think teams will score more points than they did last year. But it also looks like this team will score more points. I would like to see better D in the future. Thats jmo.

Considering how the rules changed regarding physicality, I expected a bit different approach. We played pretty good defense. We have a lot of work to do in transition and full court play IMO

Last years team wasn't exactly lock down. The guards struggle on D but post D is pretty decent. I expect higher scoring games this year if they continue to run like they did today. They even showed a press late in the second half.

Good game. I enjoyed watching/posting with you fine gentlemen. :hi:

Not sure I can comment too much since I didn't watch the game, but it could have to do with the opponent. They have a high octane offense, and their coach's history shows that. Top 20 D2 team. Good opponent for an exhibition.

Demontre Edwards was really playing well in that 2nd half. And their spacing on the floor on offense was much better in the 2nd half and they extended their perimeter defense in the 2nd half as well. Looked good. Go Vols!

Maybe lock down was a bit much but we held some high scoring teams to low numbers last year. I am not an expert in any way.
Are you saying that we wont see the type/performance of D we played last year because of our personel change or we change overall style?

I was not aware of any rule changes.
What were they and how will they change the way we play D? Are they wussifyig the game of basketball like they are doing it to football?

I mean maybe Martin has figured out that its okay to win 105-80 rather than 60-50. Thats what they need to be doing on offense and you're going to give up a few baskets but you're going to score so much more if you get out on the break.

Scoring in college basketball has been way down, and they are trying to get back to the original intent if the game. No more hand checks, and they changed the block/charge rule to the pro rule. They aren't allowing a player to slide over to take a charge. The defensive player must be in position at the beginning of the offensive move. I have always thought Pitino teams got away with alot of contact.

Not really rule changes but they want the refs to call more hand checks on the perimeter. They're trying to open the floor up to increase scoring. Lots of complaints the last couple of years over low scoring games.

We did see a new rule today when Stokes was called for an elbow. They're allowed to go look at it and change it if there was no intent and it's not an automatic flagrant.

Thanks for the info.
I know I was not complaining. I love watching good scoring games but I can also appreciate good D in basketball. Let em play I say! Well lets just hope the changes help the Vols in some way.
Go Vols!
