Florida sucks and I love it!

Muschamp teams at least had an identity. UF always had a great defense under Muschamp.

I don't know what this UF is supposed to be good at. I guess it's offense, but they looked pretty neutered last night.
Napier apparently claimed his OL was the strength of his team. Most expected them to come out and run right at Utah then use that success to give Mertz opportunities in PA. They ran the ball 21 times for 13 yds and allowed 5 sacks.

They play a really bad McNeese team next week. Maybe that will reveal their strengths?

Napier hand picked Mertz supposedly out of 30+ portal options. I don't think Mertz completed a ball that traveled more than 20 yds, did he? Utah figured that out. Much will probably be made over Mertz's stats. But context is important. Utah played to keep everything in front. They were satisfied to let UF burn the clock with short gains after they got their lead.

And did anyone else notice the complete lack of urgency by their O in the 2nd half? They played like they had all the time in the world.

Mertz had 3 or 4 passes longer than 20 yards. And to his credit, he seems to throw a great deep ball. But he holds the ball way too long and gets flustered in the pocket pretty easy.

Napier’s buyout is huge.

Florida would owe him $31.9 million if it dismissed him after the 2023 season, with 50% due in the first 30 days. If the Gators waited until 2024 to pull the plug, they’d still be on the hook for almost $26 million. And the numbers don’t change if Napier gets a new job in the aftermath.

Someone will pay it. Football is too important to them to allow this to continue for another season. Year two is when a new coach shows the most program growth - Saban, Meyer, and Heupel are prime examples. Florida has regressed.

I must have missed or forgotten them.

By that logic, what do you make of Fisher and his future? His five year record at A&M in spite of being loaded with talent: 9-4, 8-5, 9-1 (Covid), 8-4, 5-7. He seems to be getting worse the more "his players" make up the roster... and significantly the higher his class rankings go.

It’s very unsurprising that Utah a better team by a mile on paper compared to Florida had no struggle defeating Florida in Utah.
Utah would have won by more than 24 if Rising had played.

Utah’s defense was great because of 5 sacks, the Utes defense stopped the Gators on most 3rd downs, and it took the Gators the 4th quarter to score a td.

He actually threw a few passes with great touch IMO. I thought Utah took away a lot of things Gators wanted to do. However If I’m Florida I’m really concerned with the run game today. I think they will be much improved by the time we see them on Sept 16th. They’ll NEVER lay down and roll over just because the Vols are in town. Fully expect their best effort of the season.

They had a ton of key injuries last year. That being said, you still shouldn’t lose to App State on your home field. One bad year and you’re on the hot seat. A second one and you’re gone. Jimbo did enough to stay afloat until last season. If he and Napier flounder again this year, they’ll both be unemployed - and there’s a lot more $$ in Texas than Florida.

I’m not overreacting to the 1st game.
What's the most points scored in the swamp by a gator opponent? We should try to beat that.

I’ll be pretty damn happy with the Volunteers winning in the Swamp because it’s been a long time since the Volunteers had consecutive wins vs Florida.

Love the confidence around here, but it feels like an inevitable meltdown is coming when the Vols fail to meet the lofty expectations.

I've seen this movie too many times= Florida looks bad at the start of season, only to find magic and talent when they play TN. But I agree, they looked bad and out of sorts all night.
