Florida vs. air

Their fan support sucks, and relative to UF and FSU their booster organization is an absolute joke.

Sadly I've got to agree with the Gator on this one. Miami is a didn't third job-wise. Terrible attendance/support, terrible facilities, and a recruiting base that's probably a push or maybe a bit better compared to the other two.

Wait, in the 90s?

No, referring to more recent history during Meyer Era. you are showing up late to the party. I acknowledged all the Florida teams being good in the 90s. My argument is that all three have not sustained that through the 2000s. And when one or especially two are very strong it leaves somebody out in the dust. At least that is been the case the last 15 years.

The Miami recruiting base if done properly is the best recruiting base in the entire country. And it's really not that close.

If Miami got the right coach and just kept South Florida to themselves they would contend for a national championship every single year.

The previous comments about Miami are correct.

They have had great teams, but have never been a great "program". They are what they are because they are sitting on top of one of, if not the, best recruiting spot in the country. And with all that, they've never won a thing without some of the most flagrant NCAA rule breaking around.

They have no fans, facilities, support, etc.

They don't pay jack for coaches either.

But they do have 5 championships

Don't forget that Donna Shalala is out after this year also. This has Miami supporters (oxymoron) feeling as though they'll dump the lame duck they have now and resurrect the football program.

I know what they've won and there's no denying that.

But, the truth is the truth.

They are the only nationallly relevant football program I know of that can have the #1 team in the country and play in a half empty stadium consistently.

If it's not Florida State, Florida, or some other headliner coming to Miami, that stadium is a ghost town.

It's alumni are rich northerners that go to Miami to lay in the sun and have fun and when they graduate, they go back North.

It's a pitiful program by any way you measure a program other than it's on field product.

I don't care if Tennessee was 0-12, Neyland would never look like this. Hell, Vandy would never look like this.

Again, Shalala killed that program. When Miami played in the Orange Bowl they hardly ever lost and that place was packed from the end of Schnellenberger to Butch Davis.

Most all fans are fickle. More so in Miami for sure but they won't sell tickets and dump money into that program until Golden is gone and a big hire made. Might happen next year.

Also, I was at the swamp last year for the LSU game and your stadium was only 2/3rds full as well. When fans don't like the product, they don't show.

Still won't help much because Golden's buyout is rumored to be 10-12million.

They won't pony up that type of bread.

I call BS.

They packed the joint when a nationally relevant game came into town. That's it.

Hurricanes Football: Attendance History - University of Miami Hurricanes Official Athletic Site

Look at 1986 and 1987. Two seasons where they pretty much lived ranked at #1. Keep in mind that those averages are inflated by the attendance of home games vs. Florida, Florida State, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame.

Your garden variety Miami home game had an attendance worse than the average

They averaged 46,000 a game in 2001 with an NFL farm team.

Let me tell you something else, those games don't have large attendance because Miami folks got off their butt and made it to the stadium. It's a quasi-neutral site game when Florida or Florida State play @ Miami

You're right about the UF-LSU game. I was there too, and it was the last time I wasted money on a Muschamp coached team. UF fans checked out on Muschamp after the 2013 season.

I think his point was Miami fans didn't show up in full force when the Canes fielded an all-Madden team, now they don't even bother to show up for a 7-8 win bowl team.

One last thing, the Shalala stuff is not true either. And I'm no fan of hers.

They don't have money. It's not just the attendance in and of itself. The fans that do show up don't pay jack.

I went on the Miami website and had some fun. I can get season tickets on the 50 yard line for $385 and a $610 booster contribution. That's laughable.

I can get season tickets on the 15 yard line for $315 and a $75.00 booster contribution.

The money they make from those who do show up to games is miniscule.

And when I say I can get tickets, I mean I can get the entire row. Some places I can get damn near the whole section

This.

And the use of the term "fans" is also appropriate. I'm sure there are some here that made the trip to Miami for the Tennessee game back in the early 2000's.

Did you see anyone who looked like they actually attended the school and were alumni?

Or did you see Vanilla Ice lookalikes who thought they were showing up to an Axe body spray audition?

Since 1980 (35 seasons), Miami is 4th in the NCAA in wins. They have averaged over 50,000 fans in a season 13 times. They have averaged 60,000 in a season 3 times.

They have more national titles than seasons where they averaged 60,000 fans per game.

That pic of the little sugar daddy Nevin Shapiro wearing Antrel Rolle's jersey would be appropriate here.

I hear you guys. Growing up in Venice I suppose the only games I watched Miami play were nationally televised and the stadium was packed.

As for second part, no fanbase is immune to apathy. I walked out of Neyland in 2012 after that pathetic performance against Florida and said out loud that I'd never spend another dollar on UT until Dooley was fired. We did and I am.

In fairness UT'S line last year had zero experience. I expect them to be a lot better this year.

We, on the other hand .... ugh.

First time I've ever liked one of LG's posts.

I know Florida won't stay down forever. However, there's no way to know whether or not Mcelwain will be your "Dooley." His recruiting has been less than impressive thus far but I don't know if we'll ever see a coach as incompetent as Derek Dooley on the SEC for a long time.

I guarantee Florida wont be down for very long. They have good facilities, good administration, and they are in one of the best states for recruiting in the country. I am one Vol fan that guarantees they dont stay down long.

You're 100% correct. That's why we need to beat them now.
