Florida vs. air

It's really not. You guys haven't seen what a true downward spiral looks like in a long time, Tennessee fans are the experts in this field.

You are very much facing one. FSU taking over the state isn't going to do you any favors either.

They're not facing one. Not yet. To face one they would have had to hire a dumpster fire to replace Muschamp who torpedoes the program even more than he did. McElwain is not that guy.

COULD they spiral? Maybe. I seriously doubt it, though. McElwain isn't a slouch. He's no Derek Dooley.

Muschamp was our dumpster fire.

McElwain could lose to you guys 45-3 like Spurrier did his first year, and it's no indication that our program is headed towards some sort of epic collapse.

Granted, I have no idea what to expect from McElwain, but to listen to some folks here UF will soon be relegated to competing with Vandy each year for East cellar dweller status.

They might if y'all keep recruiting 80% three stars.

I don't think Florida is going to be vandy bad but realistically them and SC are the only teams to get worse this off season

Right, what I'm saying is you all would need ANOTHER dumpster fire to cause a spiral. Tennessee's troubles aren't just because of Derek Dooley; it was a perfect storm of all kinds of factors that sank our program: Fulmer's recruiting trailed off at key positions; Kiffin left after a year and his only class busted really badly; Dooley was an awful coach, a bad recruiter, and left us without offensive linemen. Add on top Mike Hamilton, who, while by all accounts is a wonderful human being and really knew how to raise money, was not a good AD, and it wasn't a dumpster fire; it was a conflagration.

It takes all the stars to align to torpedo a program for years like ours has been.

Here is your dumpster fire scenario. After a decent year McElwain has a good recruiting class going and spirits are up. Lane Kiffin takes a head coaching job. Saban tells McElwain if he comes back to Bama he'll be in line to replace him when he retires in 2 years. McElwain goes to Bama taking the majority of his recruits with him.

Florida isnt stupid enough to hire Lane Kiffin.

This notion that Florida football is in some sort of unrecoverable death spiral, it's laughable.

Was talking about the idea of laughing at us... Going the other way. :). If somebody's laughing at you guys? I give a crap.

The dumpster fire scenario in your scenario belongs to whoever hires Lane Kiffin as their head football coach.

Meh, it wasn't too long ago UF, FSU and Miami were all top 10 programs at the same time.

FSU "taking over" the state doesn't mean UF is doomed by any stretch.

Now Miami on the other hand...

Just for reference, when were they all top 10 at same time? In the year 2000? Cue Conan O'brien and Andy Richter. And I thought Tennessee fans were living in the past.

What's happened more recently, UF/FSU/Miami all being ranked in the Top 10, or UT winning the SEC?

I think the job McElwain did both as OC at Bama and HC while completely turning around Colo St gives us a pretty good idea what to expect. Despite his raccoon eyes and goofy teeth.....He's a damn good coach who's gonna have success at Florida.

As opposed to a bogus argument suggesting UF fans are living in the past.

UF and FSU have combined for four national titles since UT was relevant.

But sure...UF fans are living in the past.

I think the question was 'when was the last time UF, UM and FSU were all great at the same time?'. Not when UT was last relevant.

Red Herring Part Dos?

He made a terrible argument and an erroneous statement. When I called it out he became upset. It has been 15 years since all Florida schools ranked top ten at the same time. The landscape was different when they were.

Ultimately, a strong FSU hurts Florida significantly. If Miami gets their crap together it will become even more difficult.

RECAP:

He said you're living in the past when you refer to a time (15 years ago) when all 3 Florida teams were Top 10.

You asked how long ago UT won the SEC, which has nothing to do with his point about you living in the past with the 3 Florida teams.

I pointed out the fact that you're using a "red herring" (an attempt to shift the argument away from the original point.)

You then attempt defend yourself with yet another red herring by saying UF and FSU have combined for 4 championships in the past decade or so.

Do you even debate, bro?

No no no no no no no no noooooooo haha. I think Florida is going to suck, and I think their stock is dropping at an incredible rate. I personally believe we will field a much better team than them this year, but I still think they'll beat us. We have such a mental disadvantage at this point that they dont have to be good to beat us, if they are bad enough we'll just beat ourselves for them.
