It amazes me that you felt compelled to "correct" other posters. If those threads bother you or don't interest you... then don't read them. Some of the discussion is interesting and thoughtful.

Who knows what UF team will show up to play the Vols? But they have A LOT of issues that are not likely to be resolved in two weeks. Mertz isn't going to become Hendon Hooker in two weeks. Since Billy's scheme and playcalling have pretty much been an issue for 13 games now... it is fairly safe to say it won't change dramatically. One announcer pointed out that UF doesn't look particularly athletic. That very likely goes back to their S&C rather than raw talent. That's not going to change in two weeks either.

UT should monkey stomp UVA. They can then make corrections and continue to build depth vs APSU.

The Vols and Gators are at a crossroads. This could be a turning point in the series that will last for years. Stop being a kill joy and let people have some fun thinking about the possibility of UT becoming the dominant side of this rivalry for a decade or two.

They have quality players. It appears right now as though coaching isn't thorough enough. I wish they would have won last night. They somehow could put it together in a vibrant home setting for the Vols.

If Heupel goes into the swamp and gets a convincing win in a game that was never in doubt, he will solidify his standing as our best coach since the General IMHO. Not even Fulmer was able to pull that off. This is the undiscovered country for modern Vol fans. It is the longest lasting persistent monkey on our backs. Time to write a new era in Vols football
Vols with Coach Fulmer beat FL in Gainesville in 2001 (Spurrier’s last game at Fl which was so nice), and in 2003.

They are so screwed! They will be forced to fire Napier after this season and they will lose their recruiting class and no coach will touch that job with the schedule next year and the program in its current state. They will be getting Butch 2.0. I'm loving it! We are going to pistol whip the gators this year! Count on it!
I think I read that the buy out is mammoth. They may not be able to fire him for another year regardless of how it goes.

I hope you are right about beating them up. It is about time we're on that end of this rivalry.

I think they got Butch 2.0. Both seem to think they're offensive geniuses.

Lol. The game is in the Seamp. Not in Neyland. When was the last time we hung 50 on Florida?
When was the last time UT had a coach that routinely hung 50 on anyone? It could easily happen if a few early breaks go UT's way. I don't think UF's players believe in Napier any more than those outside the program.

If they fire their coach after only two years, they'll struggle to get anyone worth it interested in taking that job. Unless they can do what we managed to do and stumble onto some egregious breach of contract.
Sort of like UT was when Heupel was hired?

Coaches will be interested in the job. No coach "worth it" will be scared off by a high standard or that the previous coach was fired for being incompetent. The problem is his buyout.

To that end, I hope Napier finds a way to be just successful enough to keep his job.

Why did you start another damn thread about this topic?

I mentioned last year after talking to several people who are UF boosters, that they didn’t like Napier. Napier stays on through the 24 season and fired after that. If the buyout wasn’t so high, they would fire him tomorrow.

This is excellent for us. Napier isn’t the answer there. They won’t have the cash to hire a top end established coach and will be taking a project with the next hire.

Fans can talk about 1985 if we so feel like it. I’m sure the team and coaches aren’t talking about Florida.

Heupel needs to win a natty to match Fulmer and with the expanded playoffs and NIL I think he might. The UF of Fulmer’s day is more like Bama or UGA today. They were always in contention for the national championship and if there was a playoff they likely would have won another 1 or 2.

Not just Florida.

During the 1990s, Florida and Tennessee combined to win eight conference and two national championships, and either the Gators or the Volunteers represented the SEC East in each of the first ten SEC Championship games. Both teams were ranked in the top 10 for eight out of their ten contests during the decade, and neither team ever entered their rivalry game ranked lower than No. 15.

We have two rightful days to be happy about their loss, even though it probably helps if they are ranked if we beat them. I agree though, it’s time to focus on our boys. If they don’t come out strong, most of what I am hearing is moot.

I'm sure they will, but I don't know how they can clean up looking slow and unathletic along both lines of scrimmage. They didn't even look like the same Gator team from a year ago....in a bad way.
I didn't see most of the game, but what I did see they seemed to have some speed in the secondary. They also didn't quit when they knew they would lose the game. That's about the only good things I noticed about them. Regardless, They'll be as primed and ready for us as they can be.

Agree. I love our fan base’s confidence. People forget that we almost found a way to lose to them last year after dominating them for most of the game.

Should have been picked. The one back pedaling totally misjudged it. The game wasn’t about how much Utah dominated but more of how UF totally screwed themselves with dumb penalties and bad red zone opportunities—that’s on Baby Billy.
I think you’ve created the perfect name for Napier. Baby Billy fits perfectly!!!!

Last year left a bad taste in my mouth too. In fairness, that was must last bout of doubting Heupel. He greatly improved our ability to run the four minute offense after that game. The mark of a truly good coach is that they fix problems and don’t make the same mistake twice

We beat them in the swamp, yes. I just checked the scores and it looks like 2003 was a comfortable win. That was a rarity. 2001 was more the norm even for a win. I want us to go into the swamp and leave the Gators without hope by the end of the first quarter. I don’t want them hanging around and I don’t want them to make it close at the end like last year. Go in there like we own the place, the way the Gators have unfortunately been able to do in Neyland for the last 3 decades for the most part
