Footage of Ferguson

Is it just me or are many of Ferg's passes short? I see the WR turning around/adjusting alot to catch some of those. He looks like a helluva playmaker but some of those just short & inside passes would've been picked by an SEC DB.

I noticed the same thing. Lots of adjustments had to be made by the receivers. No earth-shattering highlights in that reel for me, but proper coaching can fix that.

Not the case. Where do people get their info?

In warmups, Peterman appeared to have the weaker arm of them all. Worley with the strongest. Dobbs puts too much damn air under the ball. Reminds me of Scotty Hopsons 3 pointer.

However, Fergurson's arm does look very strong for a Freshman. I just hope he doesn't turn out like another highly recruited NC QB I remember.

The one who improved immensely under a good QB coach and got picked in the NFL draft? That one?

The off season can make a huge difference in any player. Butch will pick the best guy and I am expecting that player to be far better than anyone we had at QB this season and that could mean guys that played. We'll see who the hardest worker is who wants to play. Butch says the job is there for the taking so I'm really looking forward to spring practice.

Some folks cracked me up. They deny the facts.

Obviously we don't know for sure how Riley Ferguson will play once he's in a game. But the reports out of camp and early in the season had him in front of Dobbs. He was warming up to go into the SC game and got hurt when Dobbs went in.

Early season and midseason are two different things. Also BJ, the depth chart and the one person on here who knows all say Dobbs had passed him up and before that it was tied. Those are facts. All these reports are from anonymous sources saying an opinion. Give me one reliable on the record person that watches more than the team drills the media sees, saying that RF was ahead or better. There aren't any. All reports say that RF looks good in drills but has been out performed in all game situations by JD. Malone says he likes all the qb's . Be happy we got him and stop trying to turn us getting Malone into another reason that RF is so great.

no one has to be an "expert" or "insider" to have witnessed Ferg warming up to go into the SC game.....NOT DOBBS. Why do you ignore this simple fact?

Ferguson's legend continues to grow. Lol.

He' so bad to the bone that he doesn't even have game footage and the Number 2 receiver in all of the land is clamoring to catch passes from him.

All i want to see is that he's a fierce competitor who hates to lose. We've lacked that for a long time at the most important position on the field.

Its known that Dobbs simulated Shaw that week on the scout team. RF ran the gameplan. That was the reason that week. CBJ wanted to RS both. So him warming up didn't mean he was no 2 only that he did the gameplan that week. It was reversed for other games. If Worley would have been done for the year Dobbs would have been the qb.

He was not and he would not.

The week of the South Carolina game Ferguson worked more with the offense because they had Dobbs running the scout team to mimic the mobility of Connor Shaw. A week before in Georgia prep, Dobbs worked with the offense and Ferguson ran the scout offense to mimic Murray.

Ferguson was injured running the scout team during Alabama week, Dobbs was the #2 at that point.

You have to remember that the media had not witnessed team drills other than special teams since Oregon week. Any info that was out there on who was running with what team was carefully leaked out by the staff.

Throughout summer and fall camp, people put way too much stock in what players were working with what players in drills. This staff does not run drills in practice based on what string you are. They let everybody work with everybody to build a comfort level. The players worked together by depth chart in the team periods closed to the media.

This is what Deerpark said. All official depth charts and coaches statements back this up. At no point has RF been ahead on a depth chart. Like I said before I will go with the coaches, depth charts, and people who know instead of anonymous insiders.

I don't know who starts or who Malone wants to be qb. No one does. But to act like RF is so great and Malone came for him is dumb though. All the facts say otherwise. Malone literally said he checked all of the qbs out and liked them. Now the RF people say he was only talking about him. Depth charts , coach and actual insiders say JD was ahead and they don't accept that.

Justin, Joshua, or Riley, you can all your favorites sing.
But I'm going to tell you what's true every darn time.
The QB don't mean a cotton picking thing;
If he doesn't have a genuinely decent offensive line.
And a RB that's either a bull or can cut on a dime.

They ran one play with Crompton so he wouldn't have to use his head. Bootleg left, bootleg right...

So did Nick Stephens and BJ Coleman. Where are they now.

It was a joke.. take it easy.

Was just reading that, myself. Very interesting. Wonder how often recruits are wooed with video of the "backup" QB?

AV

I'm not sure they're wooed by that so much as wanting to know if there will be a competent QB. I think Malone has confidence in our QB corps next year which he should (we have 2 elite 11s who'll have a year under their belts, plus Worley).

One of the biggest question marks for Malone during the process was the Vols quarterback situation. This year three different players started at the position, including true freshman Joshua Dobbs. After getting a long look at the Tennessee quarterbacks, Malone said his questions have been answered.

"They've got a couple of guys pushing to be the main guy," Malone said of Dobbs, Riley Ferguson and Justin Worley. "I've seen lots of film on all the guys and I really feel that they're talented and I'm confident going into that situation." - See more at: Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Five-star Malone makes the call: Tennessee

No hate...just honest observation from the games he played...no touch on the ball...struggles with the deep outside ball...struggles with reading the defense...can run like a damn deer though, smooth...good with the read option...he is tough though...took some hits and got back up...

People actually think that Malone came to Tn because of Ferguson. Nobody has a clue if Ferguson is better than Dobbs. Looking at his film he throws a lot of passes where the WRs has to adjust to the ball or wait on it. Dobbs got thrown to the wolves and if he can ever settle down with his passes then he is going to be hard to beat out. I can see it now, Ferguson gets in the game and looks lost then everybody will be calling him a bust. I just want the best QB to start, whoever that is. But to crown Ferguson the starter without playing 1 minute is funny.

Everyone's so sold on Ferguson but no one has seen him play. The guy with the strongest arm should start in 2014 and that is Peterman.

Are you sure Peterman has the strongest arm? Ferguson has a lot of arm strength, maybe more than Peterman.

You can blame a lot of it on the media. They know full well that drama, even media generated drama, gives them ratings/clicks and they've fed it to the fan base at every turn.

All official depth charts and coaches statements back this up.

The depth charts always had them listed as tied for the #2 spot with an "OR" between their names. In all such situations on the depth chart, the two tied players were listed alphabetically.

The coaches were exceedingly careful not to put one in front of the other. It was pretty obvious that the intent was to redshirt both of them. It seems that the coaches were careful not to name a favorite for fear that one of them would transfer.

Once Worley, Peterman, and Ferg were all injured, Dobbs was the only option. It was easy to see he could have benefitted from a redshirt season.

Johnny Manziel... Jameis Winston... worked well for them.

People start all the time without playing.

With that being said, everyone always wants the person who hasn't played; but, IMO, I think Ferguson has had to have done something to deserve all the clamoring over him. Since RF arrived he has consistently been praised.

I also know that Shuler personally said JC had it, he was the guy, etc...

JC hit UT at an unfortunate time for him. I don't know if he would have been good otherwise... but the roof was collapsing by the time he got his shot to start.

VQ guys have said that Ferguson has easily the strongest arm.

But to my eye, arm strength isn't a problem for Dobbs or Peterman. Worley is the only one that doesn't have an adequate arm, IMO. Having said that, he was able to compensate for it and play some nice ball for a brief period before he got hurt.
