Football Scoop reporting Helton is out

I don't get the love for Freeze. His time at Ole Miss was smoke and mirrors- if you are cheating at the level he was, you can't really look at the results and learn anything from it. Plus, didn't he have a losing record to Memphis? I just don't get Freeze.
If UT would have played Memphis in the past 6 years, we would have had a losing record against them. We have a losing record to Missouri.

Brian Maurer isn't happy about talks of Helton being out...

If he's that attached to Helton then he should follow. It would be beyond stupid to hold on to a lame duck coordinator to appease a 3 star QB from Florida, who if we're being honest will more than likely never see the field here.

Will Friend

If he was going to do that he would have right from the start. You usually want your PC to also be your QB Coach. I doubt it was a performance thing with Helton, JP knows what he lacks in talent on both sides of the ball. Has to be a much deeper issue like continuity and stuff that happens behind closed doors. Just like when Saban was ready to move move past Kiffin. It wasn't performance related, was much deeper issues.

Hugh Freeze, he needs a shot at redemption and TN needd an OC.

Absolutely not. He doesn't run the type offense JP wants and Freeze's offense put's huge strains on the teams defense. Not to mention the SEC office would have to sign off on it first and then I doubt Fulmer would. Freeze will most likely be at Auburn next season.

He's a *4 on ESPN and if he didn't play for such a horrible HS team he would easily be a high *4 on every service. Not to mention outperforming Tua's brother and other higher rated QB's at the elite 11 QB camp. I guarantee he's not being brought in just to fill a scholarship spot.Shrout and Maurer will both bring legit competition to our QB position.

Whatever happens, Helton just wasn't a good hire, especially at the price we paid.
Freak, in your opinion do you believe Pruitt settled for him (and Sherrer), especially someone who is not more experienced than him to pose any "threat", or do you think because of the crap show embarrassment that was the AD and coaching search that there wasnt many options available and the options werent cheap considering.

The million dollar question is: does Fulmer let Pruitt pick his man? This is where things start to get weird, folks.

@Freak, congrats, once again! 😂

Fulmer isn't going to interfere with who JP hires. He didn't interfere when he hired his first staff and he won't now.

Fulmer definitely didn't settle. He discussed this early on when he hired JP. Fulmer didn't have the experience when he got the TN job and saw a lot of similarities with JP when Fulmer got his first HC job. If he was going to settle it wouldn't have been on a Bammer, he would have just hired Tee Martin. That would be like saying Ga settled with Richt and then Kirby. Or Oregon when they hired Chip, or when Texas hired Tom Herman..Or when Clemson hired Dabo..Or when FSU hired Jimbo..

Again, you don't hold onto a coordinator to appease a player

What does my post have anything to do with PF hiring Pruitt?

If this is true it’s going to reflect really poorly on Pruitt.
How is it going to look bad on Pruitt? If Pruitt kept him you would say Pruitt should of made a change at OC. Some of you people just want to stir it up. No wander people make fun of the Tennessee fan base.

Most everyone seemed excited and on board with PF coming back as AD? Do you still trust his judgement? What if this is all his master plan to get back on the sideline as Tennessee’s HC?! Pruitt can’t take it anymore and resigns midseason, PF steps in and never steps out. Crazy? Maybe not.

Where do you people come up with this garbage?

(Yes, "you people")

No one could have done better with the lack of talent. We sucked and there’s no getting around that. Play calling had little to do with it.

Helton was in over his head point blank. He sold Pruitt on what he could bring...he failed. His play calling looked good for a few games. But it was bad for pretty much the whole season. If you take a job you have to perform...point blank.
We beat Auburn, Kentucky, and a bad call against the gameCOCKS really kept us from a bowl game. The team quit last week when Chryst threw the INT straight to the DB vs over his head for TD to Calloway right before halftime against MIZZU. So Pruitt & the rest of the staff for the most part had us headed in the right direction as far as I’m concerned.
Fulmer passed on hiring a big game OC in Mike DeBord who had just come off play calling a lightning storm of a game thrashing Meyer/Florida and Charlie Strong’s defense....choosing to try to go to the Clawfense similar to the Gators offense. It cost him his job. You don’t think someone is in Pruitt’s ear on this topic?
