Football Scoop reporting Helton is out

Yup.

Looking Ahead
This off season will signal a familiar refrain for Vols fans. Another seasons of excuses for a team that under-performed. “They’re too young.” “They’re not his guys.” “We don’t have the athletes.” This was Vanderbilt, and it was a massacre. There is simply no excuse for Tennessee to ever lose to Vanderbilt for three straight seasons by a combined score of 125-72.

Is Pruitt the answer for a program that is desperately seeking to return to national prominence. Or is he yet another false prophet for a fan base still in their desert exodus?

It looks like a scapegoat move to me. If they have different philosophies, he should have sniffed that out before they opened up he checkbook.

If he is unhappy with his performance, shouldn’t he get a little more time?

Seems like Pruitt will get some more time despite a **** season.

Ummm, yea, probably will get more time. You thought they'd fire Pruitt?

This would be a terrible decision and will make it much more difficult for Pruitt to succeed long-term. This was a 3-win team without Helton. Good OCs are going to realize this is an impossible job with impossible expectations and be relunctant to come here. I hope this rumor is 100% false.

DG thats what I think as well.

Lol that's a good point. If Pruitt deserves more time before he's even questioned, how do you justify firing Helton while he's still standing on West End?

Ok then. Give me the names. Lets hear the big time OCs that are lined up to make over a million a year as our OC. I will hang up and listen.

That is up to CJP. I'll turn the question on its head because you'll complain regardless. Let us hear what big-time OC has turned us down? Oh, none because we haven't put the job out there yet. Helton was a reach for a guy who was never the sole OC for a big-time program.

Obviously, CJP has been at practice all year and doesn't see the improvements that he think is acceptable. On top of that this team will be littered with freshman next year, there is no guarantee that an extra year would improve his play calling

How so?? Whats it matter if he does it tonight, or 2 months down the road? I'd rather it be quickly, since its officially firing season at the end of the night. And get a jump in on someone good.

I’ve tried to explain it but let me try a different way. Let’s assume we’re not talking about Tennessee athletics where you may feel like we’re just playing with Monopoly money.

When I have to let someone go at work, and I am their manager, it reflects poorly on me.

I hired that person meaning I did the vetting on the front end and made sure we were on the same page about goals, expectations, experience, etc.

I am ultimately responsible for developing them and getting the most out of them. And ensuring they are contributing to the goals of the organization.

Now sometimes I still have to let someone go, but the question that will ultimately be asked of me is how did you let that happen? It was my job to hire and develop a good fit.

It’s just the real world, Fox, and it’s not different for JP.
