Fowler/Herbstreit Should Be Suspended

He had the red eye when he was on Gameday, as well. Looked like he had a late night. Probably happens more than we realize

Not a fan of his but Herbie has a difficult schedule. He called the NFL game in Arizona Thurs and then was up at 4 AM (Pacific Time) for College Game. Then he flew to Bama to call the Bama/MS State game. I honestly don’t know how he keeps up with both NFL and College, even if he is given notes from the staff.

SOME TOP EXAMPLES OF ESPN'S WAR ON TENNESSEE
1) ESPN's Tom Farrey posted the first of a seemingly endless series of articles on ESPN.com alleging academic improprieties in the Tennessee football program. This long-running storyline led to an near war between the program and ESPN, which ended up including an inquiry by the NCAA and more hand-wringing by Vol fans than they probably care to recount. During the process, then head of composition for the English Department, Linda Bensel-Meyers, and then head of academic services for the athletic department, Carmen Tegano, would come under intense scrutiny by the public, the media, and the university. Bensel-Meyers said Vol footballers were cheating, Tegano denied the claims. ESPN did everything it could to keep the pot bubbling.
2) Then Game Day’s Chris Fowler had referred to many Tennessee fans as trailer park trash in the wake of Peyton Manning not receiving the Heisman Trophy in 1997. So souring the relationship between the school and the media giant was not really all that difficult. ESPN led the effort that gave the Heisman to Charles Woodson over the more deserving Manning. Peyton has gotten the last laugh raking in a steady pile of ESPN cash in paydays for "Peyton's Places" - ESPN promo shots, and the Peyton & Eli NFL commentary shows.

3) Even after all of the controversy surrounding academic violations had quieted, Farrey again barbed Tennessee in 2004 with revelations that the Great Pumpkin was the “Deepthroat” of the NCAA’s investigation into recruiting violations which resulted in substantial penalties against the Alabama Crimson Tide — setting off a backlash by the Tide faithful against Fulmer and the disclosure of Fulmer as the “confidential informant” for the NCAA is what led to him getting served a subpoena at Media Days.

4) A lot of this hate stems from what ESPN did for UCONN during the Maya Moore recruitment - inviting Maya for a tour of the Bristol facility after she voiced an interest in a broadcasting career. That move incensed Pat Summit enough to get her to cancel all future games vs Enema and his Huskies. Maya toured ESPN with Taurasi and Sue Bird in clear violation of NCAA rules.
and
I have a vague memory of some oft televised ESPN spot with some Vol Orange dressed folks who fit the trailer trash description but I may have dreamed it. (does anyone recall that?) There is a site somewhere showing FSU and Tennessee on top of the ESPN enemies list.

HOT MIKE - Tennessee denies ESPN announcers their "storybook ending" at PITT another recent diss from ESPN

If we are fortunate enough to meet up with Bama again this season, that is our bulletin board material. sickening and pathetic. Never have I wanted to play them again so bad. Next time we just mash the gas and embarrass them. Defense blitzes 6 every play.

I really wonder if they have actually seen the video? It’s a really bad look, but all they were doing is quoting what Saban said. All anybody had to say is, “It was a wild scene where people aren’t thinking clearly and things can happen.”

The notion that a guy effectively wearing body armor was afraid so he hit a girl who was trying to get out of his way is about the dumbest excuse they could have thought up.
the wild scene excuse would have been equally bad

Until it became obvious last night that the sports media (read: ESPN) are going to carry Saban by watering this down until it disappears, I was opposed to any of this going the legal route. I figured even a character like Saban would have to do something approximating the right thing: suspend the kid a game or two, make him take anger management training, apologize to the young lady publicly, and let it fade away.

But now that Herbsreit and Fowler played the Saban tune, and Saban is so blatantly sweeping the whole thing under a rug, NOW I'm totally in favor of the young lady getting a lawyer (she probably already has one) and suing the guy's ass. Bring in the video from the other fan Burton hit, as well. Hell, make it a class action suit. Drop a ton of bricks on the jerk, and make Saban step back.

Saban doesn't want to take the reasonable course behind Door number 1? Okay, give him Door number 3, which he won't be able to ignore and where bought media types don't rule the conversation.

I honestly now hope she goes that route. And I usually hate lawyers.
Hopefully Danny White watched the ESPN broadcast last night. He seems like the kind that would get involved.

I think Kirk is a victim of forgetting where he came from. He seems to piece in things that has nothing to do with on the field play. Politics, opinions, moral high ground is what media talk about when they think they have the “voice” of the people. Except they don’t. Eventually his time will run out and he’ll be much like Jesse Palmer. Hosting cooking contest and selling junk on infomercials

The love swoon fest was on full display last night. Kirk pretty much called for hits on Young be outlawed. It was quite a slobber fest of love from Herbie and Fowler. Just like last week Danielson and partner in a great game sounded like they were covering a funeral at the end. You can no doubt tell who they truly are for. Even Finebaum called Danielson out on it. It don’t bother me anymore, I hope we make them miserable the rest of the year!!!! Just WIN Big Orange!!!! One game at a time!!!!!

Nothing will happen to them and they will be calling a lot more Tennessee games starting in 2024 when the SEC switches to ABC.

He didn't just hold up an arm. And she was already out of "his" space when he adjusted his body to reach out and swipe at her before she could get too far away for him to be able to reach her. She did not initiate any physical contact with him, in fact she obviously made an effort to avoid that. But he was evidently irritated that she had gotten as close as she did. And he was probably irritated that she was so happy when he was feeling the opposite. And her reaction was consistent with someone who had been slapped. It was instantaneous and obvious. So I think the video shows more than some people seem to want to admit.
Well we just see it different. It doesn’t appear to be a slap or punch or even a shove. I’m no fan of his, but you guys blowing this way out of proportion in my opinion. He seems to be an ass but that’s all from the video I seen. And it’s apparent in todays cancel culture that most outside of tn don’t see it as well otherwise this guy would never see a football field again There is no grand conspiracy to keep alabama on top by protecting a celebrity from assault of a woman

It is absolutely mind boggling to me that Saban would play the football player in question for the assault after the game.

My head is spinning that the mentioned broadcast team chose to bring the issue up and offer opinions or any information regarding the situation in Knoxville.

It makes it appear that they were asked or told by someone at Alabama to speak on the issue and water it down and basically blame the victim.

I will say that based on video evidence the female fan was not shoved as mentioned in the broadcast last night. Shoving isn't condoned either, but it was certainly an attempt to make the action seem less aggressive than a punch or slap.

I'm not suggesting they should have stayed silent about this issue, but to chose to speak on it and make excuses for and defending the action is just literally despicable.

This is a situation that may very well just be beginning as far as the victim seeking legal advice and who knows, there may be some type of investigation going on.

Imagine these broadcasters reaction if the player in question was a UT player and the fan involved was not a UT fan.
If it was reversed all of college football would be talking about how bad we are , they act like no fans have ever rushed the field and they didn’t know how to react . They should be ashamed of themselves it’s embarrassing but that’s the media for ya they create a narrative they want

What would the reaction be if a Tennessee player did this? Honest question.

On the game day panel, Herbstreet was the only one who picked Bama to win. He probably had a wager on the side?

Fans rushing a football field are putting themselves at risk. Like jumping in the ring with a bull or running down a flight line at an airshow. Dont mind taking the risk, go for it, but, don’t complain when you get clobbered by the crowd or someone running for cover in a uniform.

You act like you didn’t see the video either. He was not running, he was walking, and as the girl passed him by, when she wasn’t looking, he stepped toward her and reached his arm out to slam her in the back of her head. It was an unwarranted unprovoked cowardly assault.

This has nothing to do with cancel culture, it's simple assault. And I'm still waiting for a plausible theory about what he is actually doing in the video. If it's not a slap/punch then what is it? If the video quality isn't sufficient to prove that it was a slap, then how can it be clear enough to prove that it wasn't a slap? It clearly shows the woman's reaction, which is consistent with the reaction of someone who has been slapped. Why is Bama making him undergo anger management counseling as part of their response to this non-incident?

I never condone a man putting his hands on a woman in an aggressive manner. But maybe I didn’t see the right video, because what I seen was a player reach his arm out and it moved the girls head. It didn’t look like a push or a punch. It looked like to me someone walked into someone else’s personal space. If what I seen happened to me or my wife I would have maybe told him to watch himself and continued partying. I dang sure wouldn’t have made a big deal out of it. I can’t stand bama and their misery makes me happier, but I think this is a mountain out of a molehill. Again, there could be another video that I haven’t seen
She wasn’t in his personal space, he stepped toward her and reached out his arm to hit her when she wasn’t looking at him. She took two more steps after she was hit and turned to look back, with her hand on the back of her head, look again.

So many dumb takes on here and then there are takes like this that just rise above. Hats off to you.

They're mouthpieces to be sure, but last I checked, we still have a first amendment in this country.

Aren’t crimes committed when people are not thinking clearly? Just another example of Bama riding above the law. Omg it’s infuriating that Saban has come up with a way to sweep it up.

I agree if something is accidental and not on purpose. He was mad and chose to have a temper tantrum and strike a female. He could have easily just kept walking and not extend his arm into her head!

Again, I never condone any aggressive contact between a man and woman. His parents should whoop his ass and they should get their asses kicked for not raising him better. But it looks like a lazy “get out of here with that garbage” hand to the face kinda thing. He shouldn’t have done even that, but it doesn’t look like he was trying to inflict any pain or injury from the video I seen, just a hold up of an arm that says your coming into my space. I could be wrong, he may have been trying to hurt her, but the video doesn’t show that that I see
That’s wrong. As she passed him by, and was not even looking at him, he stepped toward her and reached his arm out and hit her in the back of her head. After she took another couple of steps past him, she turned, with her hand on the back of her head, to see who hit her.
