Fowler/Herbstreit Should Be Suspended

I suggest reading the facts regarding the player you are referencing. He was initially suspended and an attorney has spoken on the issue. To my knowledge, the player did not play yesterday. Maybe the player will this coming Saturday, but again, I suggest reading about the matter

The Bama player played and started the game. Here is part of Saban’s comments to justify his decision NOT to suspend the player.

"I don’t know how many of you have been in a situation like that. I talked to him. He was scared, I was scared, some of our other players were scared," Saban said.

Lessons learned:

1. Never hit a woman unless she is attacking you.

2. Not sure how or why, but the lil 5’6” feller seems to have the entire sports world intimidated.

3. Do not ever engage Vol Twitter in a negative way.

4. Read #3 again. It’s important.

5. There are programs that are held to no standard at all (Bama, OSU, Michigan, Penn State, Georgia) and then there is the rest of college football where actions have consequences.

6. Not sure why, but there is a culture at ESPN that has an anti-UT bias. Every time I think this is illusory, ESPN folks prove me wrong.

I have a customer who is a bammer, and I showed him the video and his actual response was” that was nothing, she didn’t hit the ground”. I guess that is the criteria for assaulting a female in Alabama. As long as their not knocked to the ground all is okay. Disgusting!!!!!

I never condone a man putting his hands on a woman in an aggressive manner. But maybe I didn’t see the right video, because what I seen was a player reach his arm out and it moved the girls head. It didn’t look like a push or a punch. It looked like to me someone walked into someone else’s personal space. If what I seen happened to me or my wife I would have maybe told him to watch himself and continued partying. I dang sure wouldn’t have made a big deal out of it. I can’t stand bama and their misery makes me happier, but I think this is a mountain out of a molehill. Again, there could be another video that I haven’t seen
There are none so blind as those who will not see

Until it became obvious last night that the sports media (read: ESPN) are going to carry Saban by watering this down until it disappears, I was opposed to any of this going the legal route. I figured even a character like Saban would have to do something approximating the right thing: suspend the kid a game or two, make him take anger management training, apologize to the young lady publicly, and let it fade away.

But now that Herbsreit and Fowler played the Saban tune, and Saban is so blatantly sweeping the whole thing under a rug, NOW I'm totally in favor of the young lady getting a lawyer (she probably already has one) and suing the guy's ass. Bring in the video from the other fan Burton hit, as well. Hell, make it a class action suit. Drop a ton of bricks on the jerk, and make Saban step back.

Saban doesn't want to take the reasonable course behind Door number 1? Okay, give him Door number 3, which he won't be able to ignore and where bought media types don't rule the conversation.

I honestly now hope she goes that route. And I usually hate lawyers.
Saban and the rest of the pitiful bammers defense is it was her fault for being on the field, and that punk was scared of her

Also if he did that to my wife, he would never forget my face as long as he lives
Brother, before you go all Will Smith on a college kid, or recommend someone else does, let's put this in perspective.

She didn't fall to the ground bleeding. She's okay.

And meanwhile, we whupped Bama's ass, and our lads are on a mission pursuing championships.

I hope the young lady sues Burton into bankruptcy. But I don't want anyone--not our players, nor our fans, nor anyone else--to go after this fella. Not even if we play them again in Atlanta.

Let's stay focused on championships, and let the co-ed and her lawyer take care of that part.

Go Vols!

So because she didn’t fall to the ground bleeding no harm no foul. In my eyes that removes you from having any credibility at all. I Don’t expect fans to go after him and go “all will smith”. I’m saying as a husband I would stomp him until someone drug me off. Any man who wouldn’t in my opinion isn’t a man at all

The player played and started the game. Here is part of the article so you may want to read it.

Here it is:

Saban felt it wasn’t necessary to suspend him from his program.
"I don’t know how many of you have been in a situation like that. I talked to him. He was scared, I was scared, some of our other players were scared," Saban said. "I think you learn to respect other people because we have a responsibility to do that, regardless of the circumstance we’re in.
He added, "I talked to the guy, we have him in a counseling program, it’s not an anger management program, as some people announced today. Nobody ever said that, that’s not the problem, that’s not the issue."
………………………………………………
But Saban’s decision to start Burton was received negatively by many.

What are you saying to me. This post of mine was about a Tennessee player.....

Fans rushing a football field are putting themselves at risk. Like jumping in the ring with a bull or running down a flight line at an airshow. Dont mind taking the risk, go for it, but, don’t complain when you get clobbered by the crowd or someone running for cover in a uniform.

Putting themselves at risk sure, putting themselves at risk of being punched by players? Shouldn’t be the case. There’s no excuse for his actions. She coulda called him every name under the sun, that would be her problem. Get your ass off the field you damn loser.

SOME TOP EXAMPLES OF ESPN'S WAR ON TENNESSEE
1) ESPN's Tom Farrey posted the first of a seemingly endless series of articles on ESPN.com alleging academic improprieties in the Tennessee football program. This long-running storyline led to an near war between the program and ESPN, which ended up including an inquiry by the NCAA and more hand-wringing by Vol fans than they probably care to recount. During the process, then head of composition for the English Department, Linda Bensel-Meyers, and then head of academic services for the athletic department, Carmen Tegano, would come under intense scrutiny by the public, the media, and the university. Bensel-Meyers said Vol footballers were cheating, Tegano denied the claims. ESPN did everything it could to keep the pot bubbling.
2) Then Game Day’s Chris Fowler had referred to many Tennessee fans as trailer park trash in the wake of Peyton Manning not receiving the Heisman Trophy in 1997. So souring the relationship between the school and the media giant was not really all that difficult. ESPN led the effort that gave the Heisman to Charles Woodson over the more deserving Manning. Peyton has gotten the last laugh raking in a steady pile of ESPN cash in paydays for "Peyton's Places" - ESPN promo shots, and the Peyton & Eli NFL commentary shows.

3) Even after all of the controversy surrounding academic violations had quieted, Farrey again barbed Tennessee in 2004 with revelations that the Great Pumpkin was the “Deepthroat” of the NCAA’s investigation into recruiting violations which resulted in substantial penalties against the Alabama Crimson Tide — setting off a backlash by the Tide faithful against Fulmer and the disclosure of Fulmer as the “confidential informant” for the NCAA is what led to him getting served a subpoena at Media Days.

4) A lot of this hate stems from what ESPN did for UCONN during the Maya Moore recruitment - inviting Maya for a tour of the Bristol facility after she voiced an interest in a broadcasting career. That move incensed Pat Summit enough to get her to cancel all future games vs Enema and his Huskies. Maya toured ESPN with Taurasi and Sue Bird in clear violation of NCAA rules.
and
I have a vague memory of some oft televised ESPN spot with some Vol Orange dressed folks who fit the trailer trash description but I may have dreamed it. (does anyone recall that?) There is a site somewhere showing FSU and Tennessee on top of the ESPN enemies list.

HOT MIKE - Tennessee denies ESPN announcers their "storybook ending" at PITT another recent diss from ESPN
It wasn’t an endless series of articles.espn conducted their own investigation of the university

Agree fans shouldn’t be on the field. But how did he know that was a fan and say not the daughter of a coach or a staff member. Just because someone is where you don’t want them to be doesn’t give you the right to hit/shove or push them. Especially when it’s a woman and she got out of his way.

Think about this. In Alabama it’s is okay to hit a woman( as long as she is not bleeding and still standing afterwards) it is okay if you are a player and are caught in a park, with weed and a stolen pistol. It is okay to pay players and when caught say it was “a loan “ from an assistant coach ( haha Clinton dix) It is okay for the governor to stand on the steps to keep a black kid from entering a white school. It is okay to kill an innocent tree. All for a W in a piss poor state that has nothing else to offer but a college football team. How pathetic

It is ESPN, they savor drama. If they are not getting under your skin than they are likely not doing their job. They want the clicks/attention.
Yes…all media regardless of the area of “journalism” look for anything to dramatize and ESPN had a pregame meeting and this was a subject they chose to ride. Now clearly most on here would NEVER do what this young man did and would NEVER allow our children to walk unpunished if they did something like this. But expecting everyone to admit to this clear violation of the conscience (a massive man laying his hands on a female aggressively) is just not realistic in the days we currently live. It’s both sad and pathetic. Let’s just move on.
