Franklin to Penn State

I don't know who that guy is... but, that's stupid. Penn State is around a top 10 job. I think the top 20 schools or so fluctuate as being top 10. People say Tennessee isn't that great of a job anymore but we know it is and if the Vols start winning, they'll be considered a top 10 job again. And other schools currently considered top 10 jobs, if they're struggling, they won't be considered a top 10 job at that time. People view it as what have you done lately.

It was a slap at James Franklin, who said any recruit that went somewhere besides vandy was "settling in life".

I agree with him. Strong will not make it at Texas because he doesn't like to do the PR stuff that job requires. Fans will turn quickly on him. I'm glad he said no to us, as I did not want him to begin with.

Last time I checked the name of the game was wins and losses. Our last coach was a media Darling for two years, talking about Germans and bamboo and showering. Saban and Urban are not good with people and that doesn't seem to have held them back. When he wins, and he will, nobody's gonna care how many golf tournaments he plays in.

Wth are you talking about?

Initial people who broke this story said everything is done, but they're ironing out the fine print. Won't be announced till Saturday from Penn State.

Franklin could get ticked that PSU leaked the info early though. That would be petty.

If anyone on here is the guy in the ESPN forum saying how relieved Tennessee fans are that Franklin is leaving PLEASE STOP! That makes us look pathetic.

Disagree. I think Strong may stumble the first year, but if given the chance, I think he can start Texas rolling again. And given how much I dislike Texas, I hate to say that. As for Franklin, I'm still not impressed yet. He's a good coach, but not a great coach. He still has a lot of resume building to do IMO.

I agree with you. Strong has built his legacy in a weak conference but he's also stepped up to the late when he had to play against good teams.
CJF on the other hand has built his legacy in a good conference by loading up on as many weak games as possible and being lucky enough to play against some of the better teams when they were at their weakest.

I have a feeling he's in a danged if you do danged if you don't situation. He stays and he will never have it better than this year. Vandy will let him schedule the weakest OOC schedule in the history of CFB but we're on the rise and he won't always catch UGA and UF at their weakest. He goes to Penn St and he won't be able to schedule a joke OOC schedule cause the B10 won't want to risk their possible best team being left out of the playoff because they had a joke of a schedule.

Actually this could be the best situation for him. The B10 is already weak so he honestly could afford to schedule a couple decent OOC games and still only have to face 4-5 difficult teams a year. Also he gets a pass for 2 years because they cant go to a bowl or win the conference even if he tried. So he can go, flop, and all he has to say is he cant get the players he needs cause of the sanctions.

It makes us look like a few have common sense. Anybody here that wouldn't be relieved? Doesn't mean you are scared. Means you live in reality and prefer him gone and Vandy to fall from their peak.

I for one wish he would stay. I hate that guy. But I guarantee if he stays at Vandy they will start losing to us again sooner than later. And then no one (good) will want him...

I think he knows this, and that his stock will never be higher than it is right now. This is why he interviewed for every job under the sun. Dude wants to get while the getting is good.

For the record...I'm not saying he is or isn't a good coach....I'm just saying there's only so much success possible for any coach at a school in the SEC with that little invested in football.

So PSU only has an interim AD. How funny would it be if Franklin brings David Williams with him?

Vandy steps back into mediocrity.

They are mediocrity now. Yes, they upgraded under Franklin, but to grade them anything above average/on their way up is an overstatement. They step back to what they have always been-the guy we let in at the party because we cheat off his test.

So IS this official yet? I keep seeing things like "Franklin is expected to announce that he has accepted Penn State's offer" but I haven't seen anywhere that says it's a done deal

Contract supposedly has to be approved by PSU board members. They aren't supposed to meet until Sat morning to approve it is the latest. Whether they move that up is still up in the air. That could give him some time to waffle.
