Freak's the last Friday before Christmas admittedly off topic thread

I'm a pastor of a small church in rural North Georgia. The Sunday before Christmas we invite the church to come to "Breakfast at the Parsonage. We usually feed 30-40 people and then go to church.

We have a Christmas Eve church service and then come home and open presents. I believe I have the killer present for my wife this year.

I found a nice computer tote from ebags and inside the tote are a computer, a kindle, every kind of office stuff I can think of. Also got her some other things but she has hinted about the bag and does not know I have it.

nice gifts

I am following an annual holiday tradition for me by not having my wife a gift yet and having no idea what to get her.

Hey, I asked mine and she said I better not spend anything on her. I love that woman.

We usually buy only for the kids. We get what we want throughout the year. We are just thankful for the life we have been given. God has been so good to us. I wish everyone could have what we have. We are not rich but we are happy.

That is what is tricky for me. If we want something throughout the year, we generally get it (within reason). For us it is mostly about the kids and my wife would honestly not bat an eye if I got her little to nothing, but the catch is that she is very generous and will likely get me some great presents and then I feel like the heel.

It is not about my wife and her expectations. She is awesome. It is about me feeling like I need to do more because she deserves it.

That is always a difficult decision. My parents did not exchange gifts and seemed okay with it but personally I could not pass a gift giving time without doing something. Even if you are going to take her out to dinner get her something like a gift certificate to her favorite restaurant. The spa thing is always good.

Tonight is the start of our tradition. We go to a local neighborhood famous for it's light displays, then take the horse drawn carriage parked there to the local English pub. One year Ebenezer Scrooge bought me a pint. Pretty awesome.

Christmas day is ham and all the fixins with the (very) extended family. I love it :).

I hope everyone is getting ready for a great Christmas. Anyone have any pics of gifts, trees or Christmas lights to post?

What about weird traditions?

Personally, I'm pretty traditional. We open presents in the morning and have family over for an early dinner of Turkey and dressing with all the fixins.

Anyway, I wanted to wish everyone here and their families a Merry Christmas. Cherish the time with family and/or friends and make some great new memories that you will never forget.

Thank you all for choosing to hang out with us here at VolNation. We have some great posters and you guys make this place very special.

I know you are talking about me, but have to mention everyone else. Merry Xmas Freak and all of VN.

Cousin Eddie is awesome.

There are so many classic lines in that movie.

My Nephew went to a Halloween party couple yrs ago dressed as cousin Eddie. Had the same hat with ear flaps and robe , everybody loved it , needless to say he won best costume.:dance2::good!:

There are a couple of things I look forward to every year at this time. One is coming home to God's Country to see family. I am thankful for those roots and feel great pride when I drive into the mountains.

My family knows that most gifts need to be Orange/White & or especially Black/Orange (old & new school). :) I take pride in wearing the Power T around the world and love to hear someone say "Go Vols!", even after a 5-7 season.

But there's nothing like coming home for the holidays. No matter where I go, home is always Rocky Top!

Go Vols
