Free Kasey

The problem is racism, not words. How a word is used and the intention behind it are what makes something a slur, not who said the word. If our goal is to do away with bigotry then everyone should be held to the same standard.

That is not how she was using the phrases. Kasey was just being a silly in-mature teenager.

"I need a slave" Give me a break...that is an obvious attempt at humor. Not that far from someone saying, I need a couple of Hispanic guys to whip my landscaping into shape.

What, specifically, did she tweet when she was 14?

I don't know "specifically".

She was listening to some music and felt like getting jiggy with it. Use the n***a phrase couple of times. Note the rap spelling ending in an "a" vs the more threating "er" ending.

Finishing up by saying she "Needs a slave". I mean who wouldn't like to have an asian guy to help with your math homework.

I think she was age 13 at the time. Gheezz

Sheik Your Bootie is probably offensive to our high dollar boosters in Sauda Arabia.

Should Sheik be fired from his position on the UTK facility?

I think not.......

She wasn’t a minor in 3 of those tweets fwiw.

Read that she was 16/17 at the time in at least two articles at the time of the tweets.

As an aside - my 16 year old daughter (Caucasian) is a football manager/trainer for her private school football team. Several African-American players affectionately call her their favorite “_____”. Interesting isn’t it.

Not sure where some of the incorrect ages came out. But yeah 17 and 18.

Not really. It’s part of black culture and they’ve chosen to take power back over said word and no one should really have an issue with them doing so imo.

and truth is some caucasians use the word in conversation with African Americans without issue. It did not appear from the screenshots that there were outrage tweets following those tweets. Outrage could have been there I suppose but I haven’t seen that.

The affectionate use of it confuses young impressionable minds.... like Kasey.

I know. I don't think we are disagreeing. The point I was making was to ban words for someone because they are a different race regardless of how the words are used is an obstacle to ending racism itself.

Or.... Just maybe..... Maybe she shouldn't have said it. I know, it's a crazy concept. Don't openly post racist things like that.

Shockingly simple...

She shouldn't have said the word. Not because what she said was racist, but it was a stupid thing to do that allows people to accuse her of being racist. The fact is some people can say it and it's okay, and some can't. Whether or not we think it should be that way has nothing to do with the way things are.

She called out a parody account on Twitter for an off-color joke having to do with blackface. In turn someone found tweets of hers that used the n-word when she was in her teens. She was fired. Ironic really considering how the whole thing started. So much cancelling from all sides it's hard to keep track

To be clear there is only one side that loves to cancel folks for mistakes made before this new ideology of instant purity if you vote for a party.

I almost lost my job for posting a FB status during the BLM stuff. I said both sides need to acknowledge where they can do better, pointing fingers only tears our country apart.

Apparently that was racist.

That would have been a wonderful lawsuit had they fired you.

During all of that somehow being neutral and not in a tizzy was also racist, it may still be, I don’t know lol

Your opinion of who can and can't say a word has zero to do with this. She said it. She should've known better. It's all on her.

Isn't that exactly what I just said?

Editing to add: Well, except I also did give my opinion. I'm still going to give it though, because I believe in standing up for what is right: Just because things are a way doesn't make it right. Taking the power back argument is ridiculous. Racism will never never go away when you hold different races to different standards. I'm good with us all not being able to say some words, and I'm good with all of us being able to say it. But some can, and some can't? Nope, not right.

That's like blaming a black guy in 1950 for being fired for drinking at the wrong water fountain.

Your logic would say, "Hey, man, right and wrong doesn't enter into it. You shoulda known better."
