I don't think DY is a viable SEC back. I also don't think third string tailback is gonna make or break anything.

DY is a luxury weapon that can create huge match up problems on passing downs. Very few LBs can cover DY, and his size benifits him when running between tackles because he's hard to see. He's not a true WR or a true RB. A Darren Sproles type guy. Last year he was hurt and was forced to play in the slot because of depth issues. Now, DY can play in the back field where he's more effective. He's clearly not someone who needs to be getting 10+ carries a game, but I do think he needs 4-5 touches a game because he's just a playmaker. PIG is the same way. You have to find ways to get your play makers the ball. A motion offense with PIG, DY, North, Malone, and Wolf could be deadly on passing downs. We really need to be creative offensively and put guys like PIG in motion to keep defenses on their toes. We did this against GA in the second half and it worked beautifully with PIG in motion taking jet sweeps or catching out of the flat. We have multiple weapons now so it should be fun to watch.

There are some teams DY could start on. He's quick, fast, has excellent field vision and good hands. Look at some films and see how well he moved around and gained yards when at least a couple of guys were blocking.

DY is reaching Rod Wilks and Brandon Lopez status. Maybe I have just missed it, but DY has been little more than a steady handed returner (now that was big when we were struggling just catch punts). He had a good game last year against KY, but otherwise there is no evidence from the last three years to convince me that DY is going to be a major contributor this year in SEC action.

He is a good, loyal, hometown kid and I am glad he is a Vol. I will be cheering for him every time he takes the field and if he becomes a breakout star, then he will be the feel good story in East TN for 2014.

If you can show me what Devrin Young has proven to show he's a good third option in his three years on campus then please do. He's proven that he can't at RB. Scott hasn't but he has legit talent at the position. Young doesn't
First of all, DY's HS highlight reel was....well...un-real! :D

Secondly, he has impressed in camps and practices since he's been here, but hasn't had that many opportunities to showcase it, during the season. When he did get on the field, he's made some impressive runs. So, as a No.1 back, maybe not. But as a 3rd RB in the rotation...yes.

Obviously, the staff disagrees with your evaluation. Otherwise, he'd still be with the WR group. IMHO, he actually exhibits the same attributes as Bishop Sankey did at UW...who was taken by the Titans to replace CJ1K, and was the 1st RB taken in the draft.

With that said, I don't think Sankey would have started for many teams in the SEC, because they tend to lean toward the bigger backs...as we have.

When DY is called upon, this year, he'll show why the staff believes in him

"Do you love the Power T or do you love the Power of the T?"

What does this even mean?
That is a bit on the strange side, but I suppose the players know what he means by it. They may not have signed here because they LOVE Tennessee or the Power T, etc.

But they should have come to love it, once they are in the fold...because it represents them, their teammates, the team and fanbase, wherever that "T" is displayed in the national media.

When fans on the Left Coast see that Power T, they think, "dang, that's the team with bad-arse freshman running back...yeah, that Hurd guy. And that big freshman WR they signed. They are going to have some weapons this year."

When people see a team's logo, they immediately associate it with their impact players. So, this team should love that Power T.

He's a lot like Bishop Shankey except Shankey is bigger, can pass block, and can actually run well between the tackles, but sure.

The coaches have had him at #3 for a long time now while giving him quite a few #1 reps. They apparently DO believe he's a viable SEC back.

If he doesn't work out then the RS can be pulled off Paulk. Supposedly Pickett has talent. In an emergency, Pig can play RB.

I can't believe people are comparing DY to Bishop Sankey (crazy comparison) and Pig Howard. I think we should all just recognize DY for what he is---viable and servicible as a player as a running back---as a slot back or a guy in space he's better but he's no NFL player. As far as SEC teams he could start for---yeah that's a big negatory---we have recruited backs on the roster that will be better and probably are currently. He's just a guy---people that have placed him in the otherworldly stratosphere need to hand me their drugs. Darren Sproles???? Ya'll go back look at Sproles play making skills and compare it to DY and get back to me---TDs for Sproles versus DY...I'll wait I'll make some coffee...there is no comparison. Period.
