Fugate leaving

Really?

Pitchers throw 70-80 pitches every 4-5 days. How many times do you think we are we gonna throw the ball each Saturday?

Well Genius, how many times do you think they throw every day in practice. Also gives the #2 time with the ones, and the #3-4 time with the twos to help get them ready if needed, and see what they can do with the first and or second team.

No sense playing "what if" with fullback. Even if Dooley didnt switch him, I don't think CBJ will use a FB.

This caught my attention as well. What is a 'maintenance day program' for quarterbacks? Maybe he sits out and observes , seeing the gameplan, calls, reads, etc...kinda like film study but with live action? Well, that's all I came up with lol.

Not an expert on the on the subject but think you are dead on.

Hope he can finish out his career somewhere while getting some playing time, the guy was a beast in Kentucky High School football.

Another one bites the dust due to the coaching fruit basket turnover. This stuff has gone on forever, especially with our Vols. Good luck, Channing.

When you recruit a guy that is all everything on offense, it is hard to make a defensive player out of him. It rarely works because the mentality to play on one side of the ball or the other is different. Physically they may have what they need, but they rarely change mentally.

Teague would be a perfect example. Lousy CB - could have been a really good slot WR. Was all everything on offense in HS. His mentality was to avoid contact. So he was lost when he had to react and initiate contact. Austin Johnson was well known for being a head knocking LB in HS. Two years as a FB at UT before converting to D and playing well considering the lack of time at the position. It goes on and on.

Exactly. Everyone saying that we should have left him at fullback needs to understand that there is no fullback in this offense.

Kiffin played him quite a bit.
Kiffin did use him a lot and I felt like Fugate done a very good job. I thought he would end up being a Jacob Hester like type of player for us. I am not just saying that because they are both white, his play just reminded me a lot of Hester just maybe a tad bit slower. Back then I would of swore he would end up being a star for us, not exactly sure what happened with him but its disappointing.

All I've heard from CBJ in the interviews is "Special Teams", now arguably the best SpT performer is leaving ? Seems weird.

I had thought that if we subbed out A.J. that Fugate might come in at MLB ... but looks like other guys were in line for that.

And to think that he missed practice TODAY, when Al Wilson addressed the D?

Read he is not happy with his spot in the rotation and is looking to finish his career elsewhere.

He was best suited to be a full back. I recall one game, early in his career, in which he ran the ball 4 or 5 times in a row and was running over and thru defenders and getting first downs.

I also remember that he wasn't able to catch the ball on 4th & goal for us to beat UNC in the Music City Bowl. Not sure if it was a bad pass from Bray, or if Fugate lost his footing or if he just plain didn't catch the ball.

Those are my memories of him.

Fugate played in every single game over the course of 3 years.

True on special team. But for others to claim that he did not get a fair shot is crazy. It called competition.

I am sure the coaches believe he should be the starting RB or LB but just want it to be a secret. Crazy

Those of you who are so "ho hum" about this need to remember, Fugate was a HUGE contributor on special teams for us! Make no mistake, losing Fugate hurts us. There's more to football than offense and defense. This IS a blow to our team folks.

Looks like CBJ is weeding out the pansies & selfish little boys. Either you're ALL VOL or GO HOME!

We're finding out who the competitors aren't

Last time I checked Fugate was one of few who gave everything he had for TN. Maybe its time he looks out for himself where a FB is needed instead of questioning his competitive spirit which he doesn't lack. Not everybody fits in this system.

Laughable... 3 coaches have seem him at his point... And none thought we was that good or he woul have played. More...Remember our team has been bad for several years and not to play means that you were not that good

You obviously didn't watch any games dude. He was a starter. You must have been watching another team.

This kinda sucks. He did contribute on ST a bunch, but the thing I always liked about this kid was his HS highlight reel. Don't know how many of you guys watched some of that but this kid was a "man among boys" on the gridiron in the state of Kentucky. Very punishing type LB and TB. Head-hunter mentality not always so intensely developed at that level from what I remember. Too bad. Wish him the best. Really thought he would spend his career here racking up concussions on our opponent each weekend.

This. Saying he should stay and potentially ride the pine or he's not "All Vol" is ridiculous. Especially coming from a fan who never has and never will play a down for this university.

Seniors that are not in the 2 deep rotation will probably not help the team in the long run unless they are beasts on special teams, time for others to step up.

There comes a time when you realize football was not in the cards for you, just shouldn't throw stones on your way out. Good Luck young man.
