Fugate leaving

Such a sad thing, the full back seems to be disappearing from a lot of offenses now days. If a team does use a fullback you don't see many big great bruisers like in the old days.

Actually that position is used at times...its just referred to by a different name and maybe a little different lineup....but I agree...I did enjoy seeing an athletic fullback crack the line creating space for a tailback...times do change...As far as Fugate...not everyone is going to buy it...and I get that...so I do wish him well whereever he goes...probably a good kid..

He has to drop to a lower level and he IS an SEC caliber player. I doubt he has a problem finding PT.
Any info out there on where he may possibly land? Im guessing that its probably not public knowledge yet considering he just left UT, but im sure he's got an idea where he will be playing next. He is an SEC level talent so he should have no problem finding a new home and immediate playing time anywhere in the lower divisions.Hopefully he does well wherever he goes.

I'll never excuse someone for leaving due to playing time, but I understand if it's about a position or coaching change. Playing a position you don't want to play is like getting moved from sales to receptionist in The Office.

Channing is still listed on the official roster. The other three players who have announced they are leaving this week have already been removed. TIFWIW.

I meant you don't see many teams especially in college lining up in an I formation with a big bruiser FB cracking heads and opening up holes anymore. It just seems like the FB position is like an lost art. You got way more single back sets these days.

My guess is Fugate has been upset since the introduction of the Beast Package (or whatever it was called). The best part about being a Fullback is getting to touch the ball every now and then on the goal line.

Kiffin did use him a lot and I felt like Fugate done a very good job. I thought he would end up being a Jacob Hester like type of player for us. I am not just saying that because they are both white, his play just reminded me a lot of Hester just maybe a tad bit slower. Back then I would of swore he would end up being a star for us, not exactly sure what happened with him but its disappointing.

Kiffin played him quite a bit.

Kiffin bolted before Fugate played for UT.

Yes it does. It also knocks one off the 85.

No, him leaving doesn't affect how many we can sign in the 2014 class. And it only knocks one off the 85 for this season.

I can't begrudge him as long as he did it right. He just wants to play and has only one year left to do it.

Do we even know for sure he's left? All I saw was an alleged tweet that he wasn't happy, and he missed one practice. Maybe somebody sat him down and had a talk with him after that. ???

I don't think it's as much that he couldn't compete, but that the systems in which he played at UT didn't lend themselves to excessive use of the Fullback. Lorenzo Neal wouldn't want to play in Butch Jones' offense either. Doesn't have anything to do with a fear of competition.

the Bartholemews (sp?) must have given a bunch of money to the university, because I never understood why they moved Fugate to LB from FB

Kiffin left UT in January 2010 to take the HC job at USC.
Channing was in the recruiting class of 2010. He never played a down for Kiffin.

Did he get switched back to fullback? I thought he was 2nd string to A.J. at linebacker, how is depth at that position?

He was always one of my favorites. Pretty sad to see him go. Kid had a lot of potential at fullback
