Fugate leaving

Separating the MEN from the BOYS! IMO

Liked Channing Fugate but that's not an attitude we need on this team right now. Do what is ask of you for the name on the front of the jersey & not for the name on the back of the jersey! Good Bye and Good Luck!

Said he didn't like his position on the depth chart, we all know they are not set in stone right now so the coaches may had been trying to get him to step up. :hi:

That's not throwing stones. He made a point of fact about where he was on the depth chart. That's reality not a slight at the team or anybody else. Many a player has left one team and gone to another and made it to the league. A scout may see him as a perfect fit at FB for a team whereas he wouldn't have gotten a look here.

True, but he also told it like it is in his eyes. Didn't say anything rude to media or openly criticize staff. What should he say? He likes how things are going but he's wanting to be leave for some false reason? He told it like it was imo, possibly seeing the writing on the wall as it pertains to his personal goals. Maybe has a heart for starting at LB. Who knows. I get your point, just don't know what else he really could say if that's the way he feels and wants to do what he believes is best for him. I'm not sure at all why some would call him a selfish pansy for that reason (not claiming you did, btw).

Dooley pushed no one. Jones pushes. Some players aren't used to and or ready to take on a demanding coach. I mean Bray lasted under Dooley and decided to go pro and undrafted after he met Coach Jones. Nuff said.

Link?

Exactly. Everyone saying that we should have left him at fullback needs to understand that there is no fullback in this offense.

Pretty solid reason to look elsewhere if there ever was one. Seemed like a good talent. Wish it would have worked out. Good luck young man.

Is it really that hard to wish a guy luck? Do we really have to collectively talk sh*t about him just for wanting to get on the field at a smaller school?

Oh that's why Bray left. He must have told you that over brunch or you weakly induced that based off of absolutely nothing to support it but your hatred for Bray. Either way you're the smartest one in the room.

Those of you who are so "ho hum" about this need to remember, Fugate was a HUGE contributor on special teams for us! Make no mistake, losing Fugate hurts us. There's more to football than offense and defense. This IS a blow to our team folks.

He is credited with 11 total career tackles.... Huge contributor is a bit bold

I hate to see anyone leave but especially a senior. We need all the depth we can get. He got so much playing time as a freshman that I was surprised he didn't play as much under Dooley. I also wish he would have stayed at fullback but like another poster pointed out CBJ's offense has little use for a fullback.

He ran through the T and gave his all for Tennessee. More than almost all of us can say.

Does this free up a scholly to sign an additional player in the 14' class?

No there is a 25 player limit per class, but if you undersign in the last class (in this case, 2013), you can back fill those spots as long as that number enroll by January.

All this does is free up a scolly to the 85 limit.

All I've heard from CBJ in the interviews is "Special Teams", now arguably the best SpT performer is leaving ? Seems weird.

My guess is he wanted to do more than just play special teams but CBJ didn't think he was good enough to get on the field otherwise.

Does anyone know why Worley didn't take snaps?

With Justin Worley dressed but not throwing as the staff continued its 'maintenance day' program for quarterbacks, Nathan Peterman took the majority of snaps with the Vols' first-team offense. Joshua Dobbs and Riley Ferguson also got an increased workload

Is it just me, or does something seem odd about that? Maybe they aren't going to end up with him as the starter after all, unless they're giving him a break because he's so far ahead of everyone else.

Not unusual. All of them have been throwing a lot, and they may just be resting his arm. As hard as they are practicing right now, it is probably just a precaution to avoid injury. That is how I read 'maintenance day'

He did look promising at FB the few times I saw him play. They should have kept him there.

I don't think having a fullback is in the new offense. Instead, there is either an additional WR, or 2 TE.

I have always liked having a fullback to get short yardage. However, I am not the coach. As long as we are putting up wins, I can get used to it.

Such a sad thing, the full back seems to be disappearing from a lot of offenses now days. If a team does use a fullback you don't see many big great bruisers like in the old days.

Maybe. However as painful as it is for someone who has put up with as much non-sense as this kid did... there's a matter of how much you can afford to invest in a senior as a back up when you think you have sophomore back ups with at least as much talent.

Fugate got screwed over largely because of the Sunseri hire and move to LB. He was a very good FB but they need depth at LB after the stupid 3-4 move. Being a team guy, he moved over...

No one intentionally screwed him over... just a byproduct of the stupidest assistant coach hire I have ever witnessed.

Seems a little close to the season to be suddenly going to a different school and trying to get a better position there.

He has to drop to a lower level and he IS an SEC caliber player. I doubt he has a problem finding PT.

Read he is not happy with his spot in the rotation and is looking to finish his career elsewhere.

Not sure why he was ever switched to the defensive side of the ball? He was a record breaking fullback in high school.
