Were in the tenth year, although the season hasn't played out yet. It won't matter,ultimatums for phil don't apply. Just get us 8 or 9 wins and all is fat and happy on the hill. As the mounds of cash continue to flow in.

since it's UTMBA's thread and he likes to mix basketball with football to make Fulmer look better, I'd like to remind you that it has only been about a month since we won the SEC.

the local radio show in the afternoon here likes to poke fun at cowboy fans as part of the intro to the show starts by saying "it's now day 4 thousand and so many days...." (i forget the actual number).........and that represents the number days it's been since Dallas won a playoff game.:eek:lol: And while it's funny for me cause i hate Dallas, seeing that in print about us, is equally depressing.:cray:

Only another week until we find out if the basketball team actually ranked better or worse than the football team this year. I'm hoping for 12th just to make the comparison easier for you, BPV.:peace2:

What if somehow the UT bball team finishes ranked lower than 12th? I'll try not to mention it, of course.:good!:

I really don't care where they end up being ranked, I know they were better than the 12th best team in the nation and I know that there were better football teams ranked below our football team. Subjective style popularity rankings mean absolutely nothing to me. That said, I'm willing to take whatever creative wager you can come up with that we are better than 12th.

Finally, it just gets stale talking UT hoops on a UT board with a guy that is a frontrunner. I just don't get mixing UT football and UNC basketball. It's hideously similar to some of our resident Memphis basketball types. Why not just declare your loyalties in your handle. In fact, I believe Vol423 shares similar mixed up loyalties, maybe the two of you could have some constructive conversations.

i think AK was a true freshman that year....Henton, now that i think about it, sounds right....AK may have played some that year, but really came on in 89/90/91 (obviously, i know....):)

So bash Fulmer based on his lack of recent success and then in the same thread exhault Butch Davis who lacks success in his entire career?

And I understand that he was under NCAA sanctions at Miami, but that is little more than an excuse at this point in his career.

i'll take what i've read and heard from other coaches in the same profession as him as to whether or not BD is a good coach or not.

i can't argue the lack of hardware, cause he doesn't have it. but i seem to remember a ton of people ready to rush to a certain QB's defense whenever the issue of lacking hardware was brought up in relation to his stature among his peers.

so, apparently, hardware isn't the only measuring stick of whether you're any good at what you do or not.

It would have mattered a lot if he failed to win "the big one" at the end of his career. Face it, people are ultimately judged by their ability to win championships. I think that is the same reason Fulmer is on a short leash as far as the fans are concerned. He won the big one, and hasn't done a whole lot since. We got a taste and now we want more.

I'll just point out that his total number of winning seasons and Fulmers number of losing seasons since 2000 are equal. Davis has one winning season in eight years crafting his profession on the football field. That's not a lack of championships - that's a lack of winning.

I think it should also be pointed out that UGA hasn't won a national title in over 20 years. At least we have that going for us. Unfortunately, I'll be pleased if we win another before I die at this point considering the way things are going.

I love UT sports ( football mainly)

Lets be honest with ourselves. If you go around the nation, most people DO NOT see UT as a national "powerhouse". Based on what happened in Knoxville from 1973- 1991.........UT was an also ran with the exception of 2/3 seasons. CPF has brought this program to a top 15 team year in/year out. Every team that is at the top today has had down years. USC, LSU, Texas, OSU. FSU, Notre Dame, and Miami are going through a down streatch now. They will be back. UT will be back. It's called parity! UT is not going top be a national title contender EVERY year.They had their chance in 2002(?) I think! They dropped the ball and lost in the SEC championship game to LSU. OK !!! If they win that ONE game, what are we talking about NOW!? 2 NC in the last 10 years....UT looks pretty darn good! The program is in very good shape, compared to 99% of the other schools in NCAA D1! I would love for the Vols to compete for a NC every year.....but IT WILL NOT HAPPEN! NO ON CAN DO THAT!

As Seinfeld said..."Everything evens out!"

With the exception of FSU and Texas, all of those teams made coaching changes this decade when they hit their down period...

BTW, no reasonable person expects Tennessee to be a national champion ship contender every season.
