Yeah, right. You won't hear me claim someone that gradually got worse during the second half of his only head coaching gig as someone who evolved.

Seeing how you've seemingly stepped up to the plate, specifically chronologize Fulmer's career and how and where he evolved

He evolved from a player to a HOF coach. Time for you to dust off "delusional".

In all honesty, I think it was the firing of a Hall of Fame coach after only 2 losing seasons. That showed that there is no security here, and that the employers will toss you away at the first sign of trouble. No big name coach that wants to stay and build something would ever walk into that. That's why we get those looking for a stepping stone or an up-and-coming coach who has nothing to lose.

I like Dooley, hope he gets it done, but to this day, I still strongly believe that if they had weathered the storm of a 2nd losing season (2006 and 2007 were successes in my book), Fulmer would win the SEC by this coming season, pass Neyland on the all-time wins list, retire on his own, and we could get any coach we wanted.

firing a coach mid season after coming off a trip to the SECCG tends to run off potential coaches like armpit hair on a prostitute

I don't think the Fulmer firing hurt us finding a coach, Kiffin was a big name at that time, he was an OC at USC during their heyday of the '00's, was an NFL coach that got fired by a bitter, controlling Al Davis, and was wanted by many teams in the college ranks.
Now the whole Kiffin leaving, the NCAA investigation, his backroom calls to get our players to leave with him, the depleted roster from attrition from 2 coaches leaving in 2 years, and the fact that it was so close to signing day is what truly turned us from a desired coaching job into a place no proven coaches would dare touch.

Think about it, though. Even the AIR FORCE coach turned it down. If we can't get him here, how in the hell are we going to get a bigger name with the best facilities, a big paycheck, and what we claim is the best fanbase in the country? I say claim because the fans are horrendous for calling for coaches' heads, booing in their own stadium, and sending death threats. What proven coach would put himself in that type of situation?

That was after Kiffin.

Kiffin was Hamilton's first choice, IIRC.

Kiff was CO-offensive coordinator with PC calling the plays. Still he had zero college HC experience, not even on a mid major level.

While Al Davis might be considered nutzo, it seems that his tirade on Kiff is warranted but that's hindsight. Even so, his HC record at Oak is lower than ant poop.

He was a "name" only with no resume and MH bought it hook line sinker without waiting to see who else might be interested.

Failed NFL HC resume >>> A Mid Major HC resume

Hamilton bought into Kiffin's detailed plan to get UT back in the spotlight. A plan that was working.

sorry but disagree on the hire. We're not a learning block for new coaches. We are UT. MH rolled the dice and we, the fans, got burned. Kiff and MH got to walk away and we're the one's living in the pile they created.
