Fulmer debate extravaganza (merged)

Kiffin is in no way shape or form a bad coach. Just a TERRIBLE person. The Raiders would have better had they listened to him seeing as he wanted Calvin Johnson instead of Jamarcus. We aren't in this mess because Kiffin is a bad coach. We're in this mess because Fulmers last recruiting class and Kiffins only full one were full of underachievers and criminals. And for the record Dooley wasn't the only coach we could have gotten. We could have had Calhoun if we paid more, we could have had Cut if Hammy would have let him bring his own assistants. I'm glad we have Dooley but you can rest assure that if it doesn't work out, we'll have a clear exit strategy and we won't get left at the alter this time.

You can't blame Fulmer for being bitter about his dismissal since the guy who fired him was fired shortly afterwards. He was won 100 more games than he lost. I don't think any "bitterness" is why he hasn't been hired by another school. I think it his age.

It wasn't just about the wins and losses. I know its been awhile and time softens memory, but the fanbase was about to the breaking point with the lack of discipline and the general thuggery surrounding the team. Say what you will about Derek Dooley, we don't have to hold our breath every time we turn on Sportscenter or open the paper anymore.

Fulmer last class was told the hit the road. Different coach had different game plan that didn't include players like Tajh Boyd or even Cam Newton.

No man, I'm talking about the 08 class. Fulmers last full class. The one where the highest rated player E J Abrams-Ward, never even played a down. The one where Fulmer decided that Carson Anderson was worth an SEC scholarship.

I'm assuming he's referring to the girls taking that little trip to SC. Embarrassing yes, but not the end of the world. I'm glad Kiffins gone because he's a little weasel. But there's not much doubt that the guy can coach.

I was just wondering if the infractions he referred to were the ones that Kiffin was absolved of later.

Dooley puts his foot in his mouth as much as Kiffin , whether it's talking about Nazis or telling kids how to shower or the Arnett situation...

The arrest contest isn't called the Dooley cup. You seriously can't compare anything that Dooley had said to the stream of arrests under Fulmer. Keep in mind that we're only four years removed from having a carload of players arrested for Mary Jane with two recruits in the car on official visits....don't even try to play that.

the shower thing is overblown. The NFL did the same thing a few years ago

Everything hammydown did turned to poo poo.everything......hamydown gave lane the contract to leave like that...Again it was hammydown who fired phill in a disgraceful way, hammydown hired lane, then hire dooley in a panic...and thats just the football side...Mikey set us back 10 years in football...

Kiffin was a good hire(name/buzz wise) at the time. He's timing with leaving was horrible. I'm sure Hamilton could've hired a different big name coach had he wanted to

He did hire Cuonzo Martin. I will at least give him kudos for that.

Yes, the timing was horrible. But, from what I recall, Kiffin was upfront with Hamilton about the USC job. From Hamilton's point of view, he probably felt pretty safe that Carroll would stay at USC for a while. No one saw Carroll jumping ship. That set the whole mess in motion.

Kiffin probably had a very short window to jump on it and he did.

IIRC, Hammy said angrily "I thot he wanted to compete (in the SEC)" when asked about it early on. He may have been lying, but that seemed like no understanding was in place. Can't see hiirng someone who said that anyway.
