The wins, records and title of which you speak of should not have needed a voice if there were not other factors that tarnished them some what. Is the tarnishing justified? really depends on what your stance on Phil is. I have no problem with giving him credit where it is due, but the way he let this program go down was on his watch and he should be held accountable for it.

He was held accountable for it, he was fired. He should somewhat be held accountable for the state of the program. He should not be held accountable for the inept 2nd half adjustments and anything that happens after this season.

The bold part we agree on, the second part not so much and i'm not even a supporter of DD. I just think the man has been throw to the wolves when you consider the short amount of time to assemble a staff and get recruits was a very high mountain to start out climbing. I am still not a fan of Chaney and every coach we loss, we will not miss which should speak volumes to their coaching ability to start with. But that is what happens when you have no other choice given the time of the year in the life of a coach.

Gramps how are you doing? Got any proof that CPF conspired to get the job?

hey VF. i am about to burn up something is wrong when East Tennessee is hotter than Arizona.

Proof ? There is over 1,000 post covering that topic but you just keep ignoring all the evidence.
You know it all has to be true, it's on a message board on the world wide web...

we bout have this thing to 10,000.

I see no tarnishment. Everything UT accomplished has not been vacated. How do you tarnish the first Crystal Ball? The entire body of work speaks for itself. 2005 and 2008 were bad by UT standards. I think it was time as I have said before. But at the end of the year in a respectful manner. The way "we" did it tarnished our program way more than having a bad 2008 ever could have. You can't say we handled it correctly. He HAD to have earned the right to step down at the end of the year. We proved nothing with that mid-year debacle.

i personally think MH firing him in November was the best timing.
It gave CPF a chance to do a farewell tour and for his fans to wish him well.

They gave him the choice to retire or be fired and he chose to (try) be martered.

Coaches dont make that choice. At the end of the year, the AD makes that call. But not during the season. If (if) you had to fire a coach in mid season then you started the season with the wrong coach. That's still on the AD.

Not necessarily. He needed the extra time to try to find a good candidate so, allowing other quality coaches to know what was available was to UT's benefit. IMO anyway. But, who would've known at the beginning of the season it would be such a disasterous year?

No it did not tarnish our program, the tarnisher was Phil by not accepting the offer to retire at the end of the season. As it has been stated many times before, all Phil had to do was accept retiring but he did not want that, he wanted to force the issue, that is where the ugly publicity started.

How close are you to Monterey? I know all the posts are true and backed up with solid evidence...but that's just me. Unfortunately, all the symptoms of an upcoming grandchild, but a false alarm. You have a happy and safe 4th.

If you had as much of your life spent with the program, would you not have fought to stay?

Be honest. If you had a job like his, invested half your life to the institution, etc, and you were given that ultimatum, would you give in as easily as you say he should have? I know I sure as hell wouldn't. If you honestly would, then you're not the right person for the job.
