I think the debates in this thread have become much more civil and there has been a mutual amount of respect for some of the posters on both sides over the past 6 months.

so you want to merge this with the "Beginning of the End" thread?

one thing we all can agree about is that Dooley did not stab no one in the back to become HC.

Dooley also inherited a team that was a small fraction of the team that Phil inherited when he took over, but lets not let facts stand in the way of judging him.

Dooley also is rebuilding the team to be relevant in the SEC.
Fulmer took a relevant SEC program and turned it into a lower tier program.

a 1/4 of your post are in this thread

More like 1/5, but yeah I only joined because I was searching for all of the data on CPF as we were having this debate at work back then. But it's by far the best fan site out there and I branched out into other threads. Fulmer defense is hard work around Vol Country  .

fyp.

You have done an excellent job in defending CPF. Why you put yourself through all the agony is beyond me....lol
A Tennessee boy is worth any effort. This, by comparison, has been fairly easy. The wins, records and titles all should have spoken for themselves. But I had no problem giving them a voice. I have enjoyed it. Hope you all have. :)

The wins, records and title of which you speak of should not have needed a voice if there were not other factors that tarnished them some what. Is the tarnishing justified? really depends on what your stance on Phil is. I have no problem with giving him credit where it is due, but the way he let this program go down was on his watch and he should be held accountable for it.

I have to admit that he has handled everything that has transpired very well! Other than not retiring when asked. Quit the (gimmie) job that was paying his insurance when the uproar occured. Didn't bad mouth UT (other than a few snip-bits) when he was on CBS. Though I thout it was time for Fulmer to replace Johnny just like I long thought it was time for Fulmer to go, I have noticed Fulmer didn't carry on the drama like Majors did! The queestion I've got now is, was Majors buyout too low compared to Fulmers?

probably apples to oranges. While JM took up up the ladder of national exposure (aided by the emergence of cable tv sports) he didnt get the NC like PF did. The other portion was that JM was gone by the time coaching salaries skyrocketed therefore he might have been paid well for that period of time, it wasnt the millions we see as common place today therefore his buyout would be less
