Fulmer debate extravaganza (merged)

2007 Michigan lost at home to Appalachian State. The 2005 Vols won at LSU. Strange things happen. That's why they play them.

App St won their 3rd consecutive NC that season. Also look up the reports from a Mich player on how seriously they took that game. In 2005 UT was a preseason top-5 team. Neither example is even close to the loss to a 6-6 ULM. The excuses are getting worse

App st also shouldn't be a game against a team like Michigan. He made his point

UT kept fulmer around about 3 years too long and the program is still feeling the effects

Again, how? The program was what it had historically been. He didn't destroy it like everyone says. My god. Prior to 05, he had 0 losing seasons. In his career he had nine 10+ win seasons, two 9 win seasons, three 8 win seasons, and two 5 win seasons. If he was fired in 05, he would've had eight 10+ win seasons, one 9 win, three 8 win, and one 5 win.

No....he was fired too early and we are still feeling it.
No, he wasn't fired to early but to give Hammy credit he couldn't fire him after just one dissmal season even though EVERYONE could see how program was going down.

EVERYONE was wrong. How are those young, brash replacements doing?

How the replacement coach did has nothing to do with how Fulmer was doing.

Because the Kiffin/Dooley hired didn't do well doesn't magicaly equate to Fulmer running a great program when he was fired.

Still blaming a national title winning, HOF coach for our "issues" 4 years after he was booted. That alone gives those with that opinion little to zero credibility. "It's Fulmer's fault, I know it". If Gruden had been hired and had 3 losing seasons to start, it would have been all on Fulmer as well.

I firmly believe with the right staff Fulmer would once again own the sec.

Flame all you want. I miss the man. He bleeds orange.

No other coach will ever fill his shoes at UT!!

I also think with the right staff.....I would be willing to give him another chance with a top notch recruiting staff.....the way he went out was a disgrace....to us and to him.....for what all he did for us......he did not deserve to go out like he did......I think it was more his lack of staff than it was him...was he totally innocent...no.....

Ok, what was the condition of the program when he took over and what was the condition of the program when he was FIRED?

About average for the history of Tennessee football. It was down from where he brought it up but not as bad as you are implying.

Fulmer from 2001 to 2008

4 Conference division titles. That means we were in the game being played right now every other year. Fact

2007 #5 recruiting class in the nation.

so are you mad we didn't win a SEC championship or that we didn't win a NC.

And who do you feel would be a better choice right now?
But if if blame Fulmer for not winning those championships who's your choice to lead us to the promised land.

I listened when everyone said Kiffen will save us and everyone jumped on. That didn't work out to well.

Then we Dools that wasn't even close.

So who's the next experiment?

And for the record Majors won 3 SEC Championships from 77' to 92'. Never won a NC.

I am glad you asked. Thumbnail sketch. Check the record and you will find Majors was losing. CPF comes in on an interim basis and wins. Majors comes back and loses again. CPF is the reason for our success,

CPF is the reason for our success,

You are living back in the 90s. Check out Fulmer's last seven years, just short of two graduating classes, and you will find his winning percentage, .648, was "lower" than Tennessee's all-time percentage. He wasn't even matching "average." TGFG.

This.....is all one needs to understand why Phil was fired.

Do you know because I was around when Fulmer took over. He greatly improved the situation between the coaches and excelled in recruiting. The expectations changed when Fulmer took over.
