You guys got what you wanted. You wanted him fired and he was.

But look at us now. Quit cherry picking years of his record. He is 152-52. That's the one that matters.[/QU Yeah, he was so great..... The best we ever had..... Should be a statue of Fulmer not Neyland at the stadium...... NOT!

You cherry pick his bad defeats, what is the difference? Also; still waiting to hear you refute: "YOU ARE WHAT YOUR RECORD SAYS YOU ARE".

Is there any chance he didn't get lazy? I mean with the reports of the changes in the academic requirements around 2002 is it possible that he was handcuffed and that is why his recruiting went down? Like it or not we haven't knocked it out of the park after him. I think if the academics were where they used to be he would do a fine . He loves the orange and would bust his arse to prove it wasn't him.

No but it means that firing him was a mistake.

No way he would have been down this long. He's already have had us back on top.

I agree.

Firing Fulmer was what had to be done. He couldn't compete with the current SEC coaches .

He's a hof coach who built his notoriety in the 90s. The SEC has several future hof coaches that are still building theirs. Saban, Meyer, Richt, Miles, Spurrier will all be in the hof. He couldn't hang.

Ranked #5 then. Should be ranked #65 now.

They didn't pan out because he redshirted half of them and by the time they woulda been ready to play, Fulmer was shown the door. Doesn't help Kiff ran most of them out. To say that class totally bummed out is because the coach that recruited them didn't get to play for that coach.

Kenny O'Neal, Chris Donald, Brent Vinson, Ahmad Paige, Darris Sawtelle, Rolando Melancon, Ben Martin, Donald Langley had nothing to do with Kiffin. And that's just the 4-5 star busts off the top of my head.

The only guys you can say Kiffin "ran off" were Lennon Creer cause he was on the bottom of the depth chart and BJ Coleman cause he wasn't dubbed starter. I think Kiffin was right in his assesment with these two.

Laughable comparisons. And the bottom line is? Moral victories that don't show up anywhere except in a "compassionate" story about their defeats? Fulmer won some moral victories, if one wants to embellish his failures, in the SECCG, but he didn't bring home the trophies. In other words, he LOST!

Laughable comparisons? Look at what the question was. He asked if the Vols competed as hard as the Dawgs did last night. So the answer I gave is spot on. I'm not saying I liked them, but when you look at who they lost to (national champion and should be NC), it isn't as bad.

He would've been. He easily would've passed Neyland's record, probably by now or next season.

Further more, I think we all can agree that this years Georgia team is better than both the TN SECCG teams. By the way, what was TN ranked going into both the 04 and 07 TN teams heading into those games? Good thing for Foolmer and Cut that there were back doors for SECCG participants. Lol-to further this point, it was duly noted that if Auburn would have played one of the other (tied) teams and won that game they would have played in the NC game that year. Don't you know they wished Cut hadn't come back to turn TN football around!

Tennessee was 15th in 2004 and 14th in 2007. Rankings that haven't even been sniffed since Fulmer.

Quit with the backed in to the SECCG. Think Bama says they backed into the NC this year? Hell no, because they took care of business when K-State and Oregon didn't, just like Tennessee. Tennessee played the games, demolished who they tied with, and made it to Atlanta. End of discussion.

And by the way, both those teams had 9 wins going into it. Again, something else that hasn't been sniffed since Fulmer.

15th and 14th....ah lofty rankings indeed. HOF type production? But, not quite ready for prime time.

Yet again, his records of 9-4, 10-2, etc that he had consistently are only dubbed failure because of what he accomplished. He didn't drag them down any lower than what UT has traditionally done.

Kiffin was absolutely wrong in his assessment of both.

Kiffin's "worst class ever" makes the 2007 class look like NFL draft day one.

Kiffin ran this program aground - not Phil. Without Hambone firing him before Wyoming, we actually have a better year in 2008 than we've had since.

Well, the record will show that Fulmer had 6 top 10 finishes, offset by five times failing to finish in the top 20. His last top 10 finish was in 2001. Never again did he finish among the premier teams (top 10) in the country. His last seven years were mediocre for a team ranked among the top ten winningest teams of all time.

Simply Fulmer is a HOF coach.
He went to SECCG 5 times in last 10 years.
He recruited NFL 1st round picks.
NFL players that were his former players wanted him to stay. This matters.

You just can't fire him without a replacement that is an improvement. Kiffin was far from it. There more to winning than recruiting. Dooley wasn't an improvement either.

Hopefully this hire will be an improvement. Fulmer may not have been a Saban but he was our guy. Also he was good.

PLEASE DEAR GOD MAKE IT STOP...................
Fulmer in a recent interveiw about him getting back into Coaching, said "after 36 years of coachin, I just didnt get dumb'!
Well, yes you did, you got dumb, lazy, complacent and started taking it for granted. It cost you your job and UT admin and ADs have made stupid hires since then.
Butt, the last this we need is to hire Fulmer back.....Please STOP it and lets move on....

It doesn't matter what Kiffin's class did vs Fulmer. Kiffin's time here was a failure. Everyone knows that. Fulmer vs the rest of the SEC is what matters.

You can "if" all you want, but the fact is we lost to Wyoming. No "ifs" can change that. It's Fulmer's responsibilty to have the team ready.

Creer wanted to start and Kiffin didn't think he was the guy. Instead he started Hardesty who had an awesome 1300+ yard season.

You disrespect CPF and call yourself a Vol fan. Shame on you.

And you can "if" all you want by saying we wouldn't be better off not having fired than we are now. You don't "know" anything about that. We at least have a little basis because recruiting wouldn't have been destroyed by new coaches. We don't know for certain, but still a bit more validity than you do.

And that validity is based on what?
