Fulmer debate extravaganza (merged)

Alot of people seem to think UT is down,...and we are, but not to the extent that Fulmer has to be ran out of town on a pole in the middle of the night.

Look at the "U", 5 years removed from playing in back to back national championships under Larry Coker and now they're 5-7 losing to UVA 48-0.....

I like the idea of grooming an up and coming coaching staff to take over the reigns, instead of bringing in someone to start over from scratch

thats all
:hi:

For the 'let's give everyone a shot' crowd, how many 8-9 win seasons do we have to endure before we can agree on the new coaches abilities? More importantly, how much longer do we have to wait without a conference championship? This is turning out to be exactly what I thought it was, just another excuse for mediocre performance. I have a feeling the Spiders' coaches are just the next in a long line of folks who will be thrown under the bus as part of the Fulmer/Chavis job protection plan.

Unbelievable really. No one is arguing the direction the program has gone the past 9 years. It's the stupid comparisons and constant complaining that gets old. We have a new offensive coaching staff in place. At least give it one season before you cry about everything.:cray:

all of your blind faith is based simply on the fact that Duke came calling. What song would you be singing if Duke hadnt offered Cut? Let me guess, "We've got a new wr coach since TT left, so let's just give 'em a few years." Phil didnt send the offensive coaches away that chose to leave and for some reason you guys give him all the credit for these new hires. By the way the new hires have yet to accomplish a single thing.

The new coaches will give CPF a few years in ADMH's world.

However, for me personally, CPF was done, regardless of coaching changes, after 2006.

That doesn't mean I'm not rooting for success this fall, and will cheer as loud as I did at my first game in 1989, as loud as I did in 1998, and 2007.

you know, both of you at times make excellent points. but right about now, it seems both of you are just bitching to bitch.

we haven't played a single game in 2008 yet.

and guess what, it doesn't matter why we had to have coaching changes, ONLY THAT WE DID.

and i might remind you both that one of the biggest criticisms of this regime was the inablity or refusal to change. well, they did. we have a new offensive staff that for the 1st time in 30 years didn't coach under Johnny Majors in some way shape or form.

i think both of you know i'm about as realistic as i can be, and i've got my fair share of criticisms about CPF as well. but good grief.

it's beginning to look like you two will be upset if we actually do well this year. I mean, what do you REALLY want to happen, for us to suck so you can both come back and say "i told you so"?

.....can we at least make it to the end of September before we write off the season?

because, we are where we are with this coaching staff, and i can almost guarantee they will all be back in 2009.

Let me know if the brick wall talks back.

But you know, those two absolutely want the Vols to suck. They'll deny it, but their posts are all the proof anyone needs.

well, there are plenty of things these two have said that i do agree with. and i don't really think either of them really want us to do bad just to get to the ends they desire.

but it does get old.

No, you typically don't contradict yourself so blatantly. You're pretty consistent at staying rock bottom negative on everything UT and admiring all other SEC teams.

you being completely duplicitous. first of all, in no way shape or form did I contradict myself. I said that a coach should have to perform before you call him a great coach. I also went on to say that there are many example of a new coach being hired that quickly returned a program to elite status. Please tell me how that is a contradiction. You also call me negative on all things Tennessee, please show me something I've said negative about any other athletic team on the Hill. You cant. The fact is that your opinion differs from mine and so you choose to read into my posts what you want them to say. I can tell you one thing you did get right is my admiration for any SEC team that wins a championship. I do admire them because at some point they did something to bring about change in the status quo. You call me negative about the Vols, but I think your complancy about our eroding program is far worse than my criticism.

The assistants that Fulmer hired have been successful at other schools but you're taking the "wait and see approach" for them. Because they must perform first.

But on the other hand, you'd gladly replace a very successful head coach with an unknown becuse of a few unrelated examples. And all with the hope that it might work out.

You just don't like Fulmer or any of his employees. Bottom line. I hope he rubs it your face this year just like last year by winning the SEC-E.

Jake, I like you alot and I respect your opinion, but your statement really pisses me off. You can take me to task over my opinion any day of the week, but dont question my loyalty to my alma mater. I live and breath all things Tennessee.

1) just because Fulmer's had an asstistant that's been successful elswhere you're ready to guarantee the success of the new guys? seriously?

2) you call Phil a very successful coach and that's true, it's just that he hasnt been very successful in the last 9 years, but you're ok with that while Im not.

3) you assume that we hire and unknown.....where did I ever say that we should hire and unknown? I would want a guy with a proven track record of success such as UF did with UM or UM did with RR.

4) Perhaps the most comical parrt of your ridiculous diatribe is the last statement about Fulmer rubbing my face in his SECE "championship". If he wins the East again and doesnt win the SECC I hardly think he'll be rubbing my face in anything. To be honest I'll be satisifed greatly with a BCS bowl.

1) That's not what I said. Not even close.
2) No need to respond.
3) Two things - look at your examples of coaching changes genious. Most were unknowns at the head coaching level and/or pretty big gambles.
4) It figures you would want to finish second in the SEC and maybe get a BCS bid versus winning the division and getting a shot at the league title in ATL, even it is a loss.

if you're going to call me a genius in a derogatory manner shouldnt you at least spell it correctly?

what I meant was a BCS bowl would be an improvement from the recent trend.

do you really consider a BCS bowl bigger than the chance to win the conf title? I would rather have played LSU with a shot than have no shot and get Hawaii

I would like to be in a position that a SECCG loss still gets us to a BCS bowl
