Fulmer debate extravaganza (merged)

Honestly, when you start your post by saying that I'm blind if I don't admit that UF is an arrogant hype-machine, what kind of response do you expect to get from me?

Ha ha, I see your point. Look, not trying to blast the Gators, just ignorant Gator fans. UF is a fantastic school and has one of the best athletics programs in the country. Gainesville is also a great town, hence me living here. However, your common Gator fan in the Swamp is very rude, arrogant and ends every argument with "Tebow's gonna win the Heisman every year!" There seems to be a general lack of respect for NCAA history and other programs in general. Spurrier's F 'em, arrogant attitude was embraced because of a lack of success before him. I get why. Tennessee and Alabama hate each other. At the end of the day, either fan can respect the winning history behind the program. I've found that it's very hard for a lot of Gator fans to look beyond their own success at what other great programs have and are achieving. Seriously, I can't think of any other school(except maybe USC or THE OSU) that would proclaim themselves the "king of college sports" after a two-year winning period in mens basketball and 1 year in football. Honestly, you've surprised me in the past for having reasonable, fair posts. I guess that should make sense with the name Lawgator but is not what I've come across in discussions with most Gator fans. Mostly, I get "You're a TN fan?? Oh man you guys suck, we kill you every year." Then I have to remind them that the all-time series is tied and that we were winning championships before UF was even competing.

Those who want Fulmer's head.......

Be careful what you wish for! UT is NOT one of the top 10 jobs in the country! It could get much worse before it gets better! Think about it!

I would totally disagree with that assessment. I would argue that the Tennessee job is definitely in the top 5 in my opinion. These are the only schools I would place before Tennessee.

1)Notre Dame
2)Southern Cal
3)Michigan

If Fulmer did this then what would be his followers claim to fame of him being such a stand up classy coach.

In my opinion Fulmer has no.........he has no......Marbels.

Unless of course you publically call him out then he turns into the Hulk ask Pennington.

yeah cause being a football coach at an SEC school is usually a job for the weak. Ridiculous

In my experience, when dealing with fans of any team who are under 25 years of age, you find a similar attitude of we can do no wong here. I was that way as a student. Now, quite a few years later, I have a broader perspective and I know what its like to be frustrated with stale coaches and mediocre performances. And what it is to win a national championship. And what its like to root for a team that sucks.

So, forgive the youthful Gator fans their seeming arrogance because, for the young ones, they just haven't experienced the other end of that stick.

Well, hopefully TN's stale coaching problem was fixed during this off-season. I just don't understand fans of a sport that don't want to know the history of the sport and the all-time great coaches and players. At least the history of their own university. A lot of the disrespect I've seen from Gator fan's has actually been directed at FSU or UGA. I've never seen as much bad blood between schools. I don't even go on campus during Gator games any more because it makes me sick to see the insults yelled at other school's fans or the fights that get started for no reason. Older Gator fans will invite you to the grill and give you a beer, but the younger fans only want to fight about how their team is the best and you suck for not being a Gator fan. I just haven't seen as much of this from fans in Athens, Nashville or Orlando or Knoxville. Not saying it doesn't happen but you can bet that if you visit Gainesville and wear another team's colors then somebody will talk **** to you and you might get in a fight.

Chill out Johny Depp.

He's a man and of course has to be strong willed but when it comes to putting teams into the dirt and stalking the sidelines with gusto he has to have a reporter call him out or his job on the line.

he is plenty animated on the sidelines but people just like to use the tired clapping "joke". He gets in players faces and I know it's hard to believe but even seen him chase down a player and ask him "what were you thinking" in a not-so-pleasant manner.

Well this is what I think. Both Saban and Meyer are high profile coaches fueled by media expected to win big games and when they barely win it's a reason for critism. That said CPF has always been a win with honor guy and he will not slam someone if he can win without embarrassing them. This IMO is dangerous against these two programs, because either of them would surely do it to us. Would he?...probably not...should he?...you better believe it. Ask Bob Stoops about close games in the big 12 giving officials the opportunity to influence outcomes with 1 bad call. He said 2 seasons ago and I'm paraphrasing because I don't recall the direct quote and can't find it...''When you play Oklahoma from now on, defend yourself because if we can hang 70 on you we will. I won't lose another game over a bad call.'' Coaches Meyer and Saban would, don't you doubt it.

I've also seen players disrespect him when he's trying to get in someone's face. I've seen him clap on some of the most ridiclious mental mistakes I've seen.

The man asked a question. Will Fulmer put Alabama and Florida in the dirt if given the chance? He couldn't put South Carolina in the dirt last year. So what would make anyone think he would to Florida or Bama?

Please tell me you're not talking about the time (believe it was a punt return) where it was proven that another player walked by, not the one that made a mistake. Everyone was up in arms about it on this board but never took the time to rewind it.

could and would are 2 different things.

This discussion is hurting my head.

Who just wants to friggin beat Alabama and Flordia?

Me. Even if it's a combined 2 points I will be a happy man.

How about the time jon heffney walked right past phil in the outhouse bowl versus penn state. Phil was jawing and heffney walked right by without even looking at him.

I wont argue with that but Tennessee can match almost anyone in the cash department. Now OSU and Texas have more talent in their state no doubt. The only thing that could discourage a coach from Tennessee is our below average high school talent. But our facilities and tradition no one surpass.

I said pretty comparable. Obviously one was at the D-1 level. And Meyer won a BCS game.

Utah's season got UM him his big payday. But I put that season on par with Hawaii and June Jones' accomplishments last season - especially had they won the Sugar.

Meyer has proven he can win with others' talent - he's a good coach. He has yet to prove he can win with his players. Clawson built Richmond from doormat to contender.

Give me a break.

Clawson at Fordham: 29-29
Clawson at Richmond: 29-20
Total: 58-49, 54%

Meyer at Bowling Green: 17-6
Meyer at Utah: 22-2
Total: 39-8, 83%

Yeah, really similar. The careers of Mike Shula and Phil Fulmer are more similar.

Why must you bring up facts? Don't you realize that going 29-20 in the Colonial is the equivalent of going 22-2 in the Mountain West? There's no difference. Just like there's no difference in George Quarles winning state titles at Maryville and Bill Belichick winning Super Bowls.

Are you telling me that George Quarles didn't film pregame routines...... ????????
