Fulmer debate extravaganza (merged)

Well, if Fulmer ever figures out how to beat CUM it will be a very sweet win. I agree, just win... but in the spirit of the thread... if we had the opportunity to rub CUM's face in the dirt I hope our coaching staff would spring for it. Those who don't give respect don't deserve respect.

At the very least, I'm sure Coach Drayton would like to run up the score. If they can't stop our run then yes, we will literally keep running the ball and running up the score. I don't think we will keep throwing the ball just to score more points.

Lawgator, running up the score to impress your fans and pollsters is a sign of a juvenile, fledgeling program. UF's self image is built around arrogance trickling down from Spurrier. After Spurrier left, Ron Zook brought in a less arrogant mentality and was ran out before he could capitalize on his recruiting. TN HAS had opportunities to run up the score in recent years but we don't need to embarass others to feel successful. We have had a "winning culture" in football for a century. After another 20 years of similar success then the Gators will be justified in their arrogance. Until then, quit disregarding the older "storied" programs and understand your place in college football history.

There are examples in this very thread of it happening the last 2 seasons.

I meant against us, only.

Fulmer won't run up the score. We don't have a over-hyped sophomore quarterback that can't throw from the pocket and should be playing fullback. Urban new that last year was Teblow's only chance at the Heisman and that he would need every touchdown he could get. With the improvements to SEC defenses and not wanting to risk injury this year, his stats won't be as impressive. Saban has no excuse. He just has no class.

Seriously, are you out of grade school yet? Meyer ran up the score because he knew in mid-September that this would be Tebow's only chance to win the Heisman? During that game he predicted better defenses this year and that Tebow would be hurt this year and so he figured ot run up the score that day to win Tebow the Heisman?

That is just ridiculous.

Ok, I'm convinced now. Go back to watching your Saved by the Bell reruns and leave topics like this to people who are old enough to drive.

Why do people keep pretending Tebow is not an exceptional quarterback? Ya, it sucks he is playing for our rival. It just looks like lame sour grapes to keep reading how overrated he is, how he is really a FB (which is a strange attempt at an insult), or won't get drafted highly.

We play the best. Do not downplay that.

I said pretty comparable. Obviously one was at the D-1 level. And Meyer won a BCS game.

Utah's season got UM him his big payday. But I put that season on par with Hawaii and June Jones' accomplishments last season - especially had they won the Sugar.

Meyer has proven he can win with others' talent - he's a good coach. He has yet to prove he can win with his players. Clawson built Richmond from doormat to contender.

Great observations.... someone is paying attention. CUM is unproven.

No. Philosophically he still buys into that Neylandesque idea that it is safer to shorten a game with a 14 pt lead than to score more points.

That's one of my major complaints with the guy because he's dead wrong. It doesn't work that way in the modern college game. UF scored 31 last year in a qtr and a half. USC almost came back on UT as well. I'm convinced that is partly because Spurrier knew CPF would try to salt away the win with safe, clock consuming plays.

UK is the exception last year but drops by usually dependable players made that game what it was. He even went for it on 4th and 3. Nonetheless, examples of CPF taking risks with a lead are few and far between.

You are blind if you don't admit that UF is an arrogant hype-machine helped along by ESPN. People on the board talk about Kentucky fan's unreal expectations well the Gators are just as bad. Gainesvillians predict that the Gators will win the NC every single fall. After the second basketball NC you guys made shirts that the entire campus wore saying "King of college sports". LMAO, that's not arrogant though. I have seen your past posts and you are not guilty of most of the arrogance and lack of knowledge about football history that most of your G-ville counterparts are. Of course Meyer, didn't predicate UF's season on Tebow's Heisman chances but it was something he was aware of and tried to promote by running up the score and having Tebow on the field in unnecessary situations. Kinda reminds you of Belicheats Patriots and Brad's records doesn't it??
As far as your comments about saved by the bell and driving, you are obviously showing your maturity level and the fact that I hit a nerve. You may not like to hear it but the Gators are seen as an upstart program with a ridiculously arrogant, juvenile fan base that has no respect for NCAA athletic history. Like all stereotypes, it doesn't apply to all but neither does UT fans being rednecks.

Tebow is a beast. He is an exceptional football player. Not an exceptional QB. When the Gators were behind and Tebow was not a running threat, the Gators had very little chance of winning. He has a lot of positives but being a pocket passer is not one of them. Michigan showed this. The FB comment is not an insult. That would be his best bet at a pro career. He would be a Hall of Famer at FB. As a QB, he will be an early round draftee that exits the league or changes position early in his career. He won't be running against NFL defenses. Unless he progresses dramatically as a pocket passer, you won't see him playing on Sunday and he might get beat out at UF his senior year. The Gators have a running game now and so many threats at WR that they need somebody to get the ball to the playmakers, not a tank.

Just like Tebow, Chris Leak was touted by everyone in Gainesville as the savior. He ended up getting a NC but he needed Tebow to do it and is no longer playing NFL ball. UF does not breed pro QB's. Oh wait, I forgot..... Danny Wuerrfel broke Marino's record, is a multiple-time pro-bowler and a future Hall of Famer. He is so much better than Peyton Manning. Nevermind!

Those who want Fulmer's head.......

Be careful what you wish for! UT is NOT one of the top 10 jobs in the country! It could get much worse before it gets better! Think about it!

Honestly, when you start your post by saying that I'm blind if I don't admit that UF is an arrogant hype-machine, what kind of response do you expect to get from me?

It isn't the number one job. But can you really name 10 or 15 that are without a doubt better?

Name ten that are better. (Just want to see the list)

I'll do it:

USC
Florida
Michigan
Ohio St
Oklahoma
Texas
Nebraska
Miami
Florida State
LSU
Alabama

Then you get into arguments about: Penn St, Georgia, and Tennessee, where I think Tennessee ranks above UGA, but below PSU, so around the #13 spot.

I think Florida State is at the back end of the top 10, and is in a similar position to Penn st and Tennessee. Just my opinion.

I see Hambone's attempts at dumbing down our fan base are having some effect.

I feel like pointing out that even if Tennessee were not a top 10 -15 program, it isn't like we would be competing with all those top programs for the best coach available if we were looking. It is very likely that Tennessee would be the best school looking at any given time. The top programs aren't ditching coaches every other year, or they wouldn't be top programs. We could find a high quality coach. We are a career destination-type school, even if we aren't the BEST school. And in some ways not being the most elite school gives us certain advantages opportunity and impact-wise for a rising coach star.
