Fulmer debate extravaganza (merged)

By the way, for the complete idiots that read this board. The "new contract" for Fulmer is more about recruiting than it is about ACTUALLY retaining him.

The PERCEPTION is REALITY. I almost feel like I should cancel my membership to this board because I don't want to be "mass associated" with a bunch of blind, ignorant, uneducated dolts.

There are **gasp** POLITICS behind any kind of raise in the athletic department. Fulmer's raise is intended to boost morale, perpetuate the idea that Fulmer is "the guy", and pander to the national populous that UT is still on the map.

How many times do you have to say, "DUH" before some of you get it. Fulmer may not ever get his money, it's the PERCEPTION that counts -- like Paterno. Give me a break, this place is full of retards.
Perception, being what it is....in the eye of the beholder....says what the hell? why give him this contract now? there's no reason, real or perceived, that says this move has to be made now. he wasn't in danger of going anywhere, and he's said on many occasions he wants to keep coaching here.

put it this way..this will look real dumb if we go 8-4, he gets his automatic year added and a bonus for going to the Nashville bowl. it'll look like money well spent if we win the SEC or get a BCS at large.

but both are ifs. the only thing that is guaranteed is that CPF is going to get his for the foreseeable future.

and as Mike Hamilton himself said of this new contract regarding fans.......'they expect championships and in a sense, they are now paying for it'.

i for one have no qualms with anyone questioning this move.

OK wow look, if you would honestly have majors coaching UT then all the power to ya. I think its a little absurd though.
I never said I would rather have Majors. If you take the time to actually read what I wrote I think it's clear that I'm saying that I'll take 3 SEC championships in 8 years over 0 championships in the same time period any day. For the record, it was probably time for Johnny to go. The way it was handled though was a black eye on the university. JMO.

I don't know what to say about you, mullet. I used to think you had a handle on the scene regarding Tennessee athletics. To say the SEC has more talent now than ever is ludicrous. To say that recruiting now is 50X more competitive than during the Majors era is ludicrous. Saying that to compare Majors to Fulmer isn't fair when Johnny Majors had Bear Bryant roaming the sidelines is ludicrous. And I must be an idiot to think that a big raise now is all about Phil's ability to recruit against the new guns in the SEC, God forbid being able to outcoach them. Either you or I should leave this board so one of us won't be associated with a bunch of blind, uneducated, ignorant retards.

Well.....I don't think I have ever seen it said better.

:)

Errrr…. I would think winning Championships and playing in BCS bowls would go a long way toward helping recruiting rather than giving the coach a raise and extension.

But I see your point.

I can just see our recruiters in kids living rooms and around kitchen tables across the country:

Recruiter: “Come play for UT.”

Kid: “Do you win Championships and play in BCS bowls?”

Recruiter: “No…but our coach just got a big raise and extension.”

Kid: “WOW Really….where do I sign!”

Exactly..... :clapping:

I agree and fulmer has plenty of state to brag about.

Here are some replacements for you all to consider

or how about

these guys are available and will fit in perfectly for your image and program....:dance2:

All this from a guy who lives in his mothers basement. He needs to worry about making it to a bowl game, rather than worry about who our coach is.

If you guys tank will he ditch you mid-season for another program?

first season is a pass. We know that and you should get your facts straight Bobby P. sought us out. We offered the job to two other coaches before him and they turned it down. He wanted the job from the beginning and we would not offer to him well because he was in the NFL and making 5 mill a year. Bobby and his agent pursued this job and well they got what they wanted. We succeed and fail on his shoulders but I guarantee you it will be all Bobby Petrino's baby and I like our chances....:eek:k:

So, you just skirt around the issue about him leaving a team that was tanking by seeking out a new job? That should be making sirens go off! He was calling you while his current fiasco was sinking faster than the Titanic! Just face it, you have a coach who jump ship if he sees something better, and will apparently actively pursue it.

from what I recall after Louisville -- He could name his ticket anywhere and you, auburn, and lots of teams were seeking his services. He left Atlanta due to the fact that he was sold a bill of goods for one thing and received another. He will never coach in the NFL again and the players nor the team listened nor bought into his program. Vick went to prison and his players some of which made more money than him did not buy into his drills and what he was trying to accomplish. Frustrated he sought an out and we gave it to him. He is happy here unlike Atlanta, His family loves it here unlike Atlanta , and he can run his program his way without a billionaire NLF owners meddling unlike Atlanta. If he leaves us in a year or two and that is a possibility it will not be to another SEC west school and it won't be to the NFL. That does not leave very many good schools left to go with. He has told every media outlet here that he is in it for the long haul. I see him here 5 years maybe longer but who knows he could leave after next year but his stock will be worthless at that point.

You know that the SEC West has 6 schools out of 119 in Division 1-A, right?

That leaves a lot of room.

P.S.: He also "loved it" in Louisville. I wouldn't take his word that he loves it in Fayetteville, either. He'll be gone within 3 years, I would say, at least.

The first guy there took a nobody football team and just led them to their finest season ever.

The second guy is a criminal, so he would probably fit in better at Alabama.

should answer a lot of your questions:

PETRINO: ARKANSAS NEEDS TO BE MY LAST JOB - CBSSports.com Message Boards

by the way we love Petrino as much as Holtz when he came here. Both first season NFL rejects looking to rebound in the college scene...

It doesn't answer any of my questions, in fact. Because what Bobby Petrino says based on what he does is often very different. He said he wanted his kids to graduate from high school in Louisville. He left for Atlanta 6 months after signing a 10 year contract with Louisville. I have a hard time taking him at his word.

For Arkansas' their still on the Honeymoon with Petrino
They all clearly know his history and they want to believe he's going to stay in Fayetteville, but deep down, they know he's going to leave 'em..

I'm betting it's less than 4 years
