Fulmer Debate II

This entire thread is absurd. Coach Fulmer's record is very clear. UT's record since his firing is also clear. From simply a business perspective, Fulmer's firing has proven to be an absolute disaster for the program and the University. I have read nothing but speculation about where the program was going to support it. We were simply in a natural down swing in the program as happens to all programs and with Fulmer's firing we royally screwed the pooch for an as of yet undetermined amount of time. The fact that folks who want to justify his firing have to rely on conjecture and what if's regarding his last couple of years says everything. How about we all just let it go and get on with trying to rebuild a fanbase and let Coach Jones rebuild a team. If progress is not fast enough for you remember we the fans and the University have no one to blame but ourselves.

This is funny because that's why he got fired to begin with.

I'll reply to your Youtube video, with real numbers from the NCAA. Average per game attendance for 2008-2012 Neyland Stadium.

2008 101448
2009 99220
2010 99781
2011 94642
2012 89965

Soooooo, funny is the debate. Why continue to try to tear down a UT coach that has contributed so much overall? I don't get it. Why not rip some of the other coaches who were far worse?

The mass of Bama fans, as far as I'm concerned, speaks more to our unrealistic fanbase. We complain about Bama's "bandwagon" fans and yet, you post a video that highlights ours. I'm not playing the good guy here, my seat was empty at that point but it certainly wasn't sold to a Bama fan.

Are they HOF? Too lazy to look.

Lloyd Carr is in the hall of fame, he was basically told to get out of Ann Arbor. Mack Brown and Phil Fulmer have basically the same résumé. If Brown doesn't get things cranked up, his ass is gone in December. Are Texas fans overreacting?

In 2010 Texas won 5
In 2011 8
In 2012 9

Wouldn't it be great to see Tennessee finish a season with 9 wins again? Yes, Texas risks going down the same road we have traveled. They have offered Saban 10 million and you ask if they are overreacting? Really?

No they're not overreacting, it's easy to see that Mack is done. Just like I said about Fulmer yesterday, Texas has lost all their momentum. Once that goes, you're finished.

Couldn't prove it using the number of wins over the past 3 years. Looks to be increasing every year since their down turn.

Nobody will admit it, but what fans demand is a conference, if not a national, championship every year. That is not realistic and leads to what we have experienced.

I've never met anyone that expects Tennessee to win a conference championship every year. Before or after Fulmer.

What leads to what we've experienced is hiring incompetent coaches.

That certainly explains Kiffin and Dooley however, it seems that many want to blame our issues on Fulmer and nothing supports that without including the irrational demands of the fanbase who wanted him fired. My opinion isn't going to change on Fulmer and I'm tired of the entire argument. I'm ready to see us take another step toward getting out of the debacle.

Phil Fulmer hadn't won an SEC championship in 10 years. Phil Fulmer couldn't beat ranked teams anymore. Phil Fulmer went 1-7 in his last 8 games against our two biggest rivals. Phil Fulmer had two losing seasons in his last four years. Phil Fulmer's most valuable skill, recruiting, had clearly slipped badly, based both on incoming recruiting classes and outgoing draft picks.

I respected the hell out of Coach Fulmer, both then and now. But he was done. It happens to everyone, eventually. The idea that he got fired because "Tennessee fans demand a championship every year" is simply nonsense.

Any New Years Day bowl beats any bowl before that. And winning a New Years bowl obviously trumps it.

Don't say "New Year's Day Bowl" like it is still some sort of prestigious event as it was 25 years ago!. It used to mean something to play on New Year's Day because the big four were played on that day.

As often as you think you are looking good defending Fulmer, you're embarrassing yourself for your ignorance. Much like cc is as well. I know you mean well, but it's like you don't know any better.

No one is ripping him personal. Actually no one is ripping him at all. They're just not giving him the high praise he doesn't deserve and pointing out factual events in his coaching tenure.
