Fulmer Debate II

He was overrated at #3 because he was running a program where people expected him to win a lot every year. Yeah it was a disappointment, but I would trade anything to have the success of the Fulmer years right now. Even post 1998.

We've been treading water at .500 for 5 seasons. God, we had it good with Fulmer.

so being overrated is the new excuse?

we had it good? Did you watch his final season? We were still getting blown out by our rivals too

Did you watch his 16 seasons?

His final season thankfully wasn't 5 seasons long. We were 7 points away from an SEC title the year before. He had 2 bad seasons in 16 years. I'll take the bad with the good. Apparently you'll just take the bad.

That's all I get out of these threads like this.

what did we do in 2007?

sc should fire steve this year..right he had a bad yr

You have to understand the mentally handicapped mind of the haters. Anything less than a NC season is a fail. I guess they are learning now what a REAL fail is.

Way to go haters..:good!::mega_shok:

Mack Brown won a national championship at Texas and is performing much better than Fulmer in the '08 season. Is Texas wrong for planning for their future?

Was Auburn wrong for firing Chizik, because he won a national championship?

Should we have let Fulmer continue to lose to Vandy and Wyoming at home, field 5 win teams without Cutcliffe and run the program further into the ground, because he accomplished something a decade before?

Look at the team he left Kiffen. With the exception of Eric Berry, it was devoid of talent. It was and is a complete rebuilding job, because of Fulmer's job performance in his final years.

One can complain about the past few years, but the on the field results are on par with Fulmer's last years, with two sub .500 seasons in 4 years, especially when Cutcliffe wasn't here to bail him out.

Phillip Fulmer went to the SEC championship game 5 times winning 2 and had a solid chance to win 2 others. I think Saban is the only other coach to make it that many times and Fulmer did that from 1997-2007. He had one national championship and Kiffin ran off most of the top 5 recruiting class he had coming in. He should have been told one year to get on track or you are gone. I sure have enjoyed the 5 years since he was let go. We have played great football. That said I think Jones will get it turned around. By the way, we did the same thing in basketball with DeVoe and went years before going to the NCAA tourney. His team went his last year. We fired Delmonico in baseball and boy we have been world beaters since he left. The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.

Sounds like a long history of effed up decisions from the AD.

Okay, We are Fulmorons or Fulmerites, whatever. We have/had a coach. What the hell do you effin' idiots have? Kiffinites? Dooley's doofus'? Butch *****es? Your the reason why Tennessee has no identity now! Because of your INTELLIGENT decision to boot a Hall of Fame, National Champion coach.

Congrats!

So "bamacheats" fired fulmer? Good to know

I'm glad Fulmer is gone myself.

Those sub-par years were terrible. (Both of them)

I'm literally mind-blown that so many of our fans apparently don't consider 2002 a bad year. 8-5 when you're preseason #4 isn't an underachievement? On what planet? Especially when you get run out of your own stadium by a Bama team under severe NCAA sanctions.

A decade without a title. He was going to simply coast along until he passed Neyland.

Also check the scores vs UF and a terrible Bama in 07. We weren't going forward with a coach that had 15 yrs to build his program. The hires that followed have zero to do with whether he deserved to be fired

Cool huh.

Everything is so grand now.

I'm glad you can remember that PRESEASON RANKING #4.

Won't see it again for a while.

What would you give for that ranking and still finish 8-5? When was the last time we won 8?

I absolutely am. He had the schedule in 07 to get to Atlanta. Do you really think we deserved to be there over UF after watching us play?

He had a decade to win following the last SEC title and couldn't. That's long enough. All this revisionist history is entertaining though

This revisionist history is what makes us UT. It's what powers us.

Fulmer had his problems, but to dismiss his achievements and to some how think we are better off is silly.

Two blowout losses to coaches that have won between them 5 of the last 7 national championships and are both in the top 3 of the BCS right now...one of them at a different school.

Something that seems lost on guys like you.

Yes we did. We went 6-2 in the conference when UF went 5-3. End of discussion. If UF wanted to go to Atlanta, they should've beaten Auburn or UGA. They didn't. Get over it.

Oh so you think 07 Bama was a regular Saban powerhouse? ULM laughs at that
