Fulmer Debate II

I think we should relinquish all the wins under Fulmer including the National Championship. Just trying to make some happy with this debate. Seems the wins weren't all that good, so I say, give 'em back.

You know that seems like the right thing to do. Great idea.

So if butch goes 5-7 this year and next he should be fired right?

Also, Dooley was allowed 3 bad years, why was Fulmer only allowed 2?

Btw, everyone who had a part in firing Fulmer, is now fired. Wonder why??? Hmmmmmm....

He was given 3. First one was 2002. Started 4th in the country and ended up 8-5, getting thumped by friggin' Maryland and a Bama team that was on probation.

Not bashing Fulmer but you need to check some records. Johnny Majors is who rebuilt the program.
The TN program was loaded with talent when Phil took over in 1992. IIRC TN won the SEC in 89 and 90.
Phil did continue the sucess and won the NC in 98 and had a real chance at repeating in 01.

I don't think Majors could have won the NC if he had stayed and I don't think Fulmer would have won it without Majors rebuilding the program.

Both Majors and Fulmer have brought some great memories . Both brought us some disappointment.

Both have won a NC as HC.
I know the records and love Majors. Yes, Fulmer took over a talented team that Majors built, but Fulmer took it to the next level.

I don't think anyone can argue that Fulmer's time was up. Coaching and recruiting is a young mans game and the talent pool really started to dwindle. We were not competitive in his last year here. Also, to the people who say give him 4 to 5 years--it may be a generational thing but what coach in either college or the NFL gets that amount of time these days?

Lol. There is no history saying he wouldn't either although his history shows he was a winner. The knee jerk reaction to can him utimately backfired in a huge way so all the idiots who wanted him gone with nobody remotely lined up to fill in have to support every loser that we have had to SETTLE with. Because Kiffin is gonna get us back to the top..... no wait Dooley is the man......well Butch gets "it" which is obvious after 4 games with abysmal play & sub par coaching.
You're driven by emotion

The 2002-2008 stretch says plenty about not being able to rebuild.

His firing wasn't knee-jerk. Just because there were subsequent bad hires doesn't vindicate Fulmer

So, everyone that wanted a change is an idiot? The number of people that wanted the change that forgot more than you will ever know about it is exponential in nature.

Like many of the University of Fulmer fans, you're ignoring the facts of his last seven years and lack reasoning skills. It's ok. At least you know a little more about golf:birgits_giggle:

So going 8-5 is a bad year?

Lol....... What do you call the last four then?

Yep. After coming one game from playing for the national championship the previous season and a preseason rank of #4 makes it an awful season.

Nice to see like most ignorant University of Fulmer fans, you have zero reasoning skills and base your debate on nothing more than emotion

Well, damn, I guess 2007 Florida should've fired Meyer because he did the exact same thing after winning the championship.

Lane Kiffin says hello. Steve Spurrier waves to you, too.

I say hello right back. Fulmer slipped in recruiting, and say what you want about Kiffin---the one year he was here he got us to a bowl game with marginal talent. Steve Spurrier came to a program that was a perennial door mat in the conference. The next person that takes that job won't get that time. I love CPF, but the reality is the fire to win wasn't quite there in the later years. Jones deserves a little time to get this turned around for the simple fact that this roster is still a mess and that can be traced back to Fulmer.

Fulmer II is just as dumb as the first one. Some hack shows up and takes a shot at one our few champions. Good luck with it.

It was at that time.

We won the NC in 1998

Should have repeated in 2001

Then go 8-5 in 2002.

Yes that was a bad year and a sign of things to come.

If Alabama were to go 8-5 this year, would that be a bad year for them?

We were on top of the college football world . TN and FL were in the same position as AL and LSU are today.

Man it is a shame how we have fell off the totem poll since 2001.

Man, 1986 and 88 must've been Hell for you, especially after that 85 year. But, Majors was given ample time to actually get things fully corrected, yet Fulmer wasn't.

Are you're champions actual champions like the teams that win the SEC or National Championship?

Or are they some form of division champions?

he was coach for 16yrs. He went his last decade without a title. The sand just ran out in the hourglass he flipped in 98
