Fulmer Discussion (Merged)

Will any of you avowed Fulmerites change your minds if UT loses to Marshall? How about Marshall and Memphis? I don't expect it to happen, just curious what it would take to pull some of you away from the dark side.

i really hate the fulmerite/negavol references that get thrown around here....we all want the same thing at the end of the day.

and i think a lot of fans are probably of the mindset that it doesn't matter who the coach is, they should be competing for championships regularly. If CPF can't get this fixed, then change is warranted, and most would support that. I think it was you who said that CPF is not the program...and that i agree with. But again, it think most fans, like myself, are in a "wait and see" mode. IF he can fix it, great, more power to him, if he can't, sorry 'bout ya....

Having said that, i've alwasy thought CPF deserved the chance to fix this mess, and thus far, i think it's better. What could change my mind? lose to Marshall and Memphis, and you'll find out.

how this works. The x and o aspect of this game is not as important as it once was. Coaches can visit camps, NFL temas, even receive faxes of the other teams playbook. You have to have the guns and right now we don't have exactly what we need. We ned a big bruising back and tall receivers (Smith and Meachem are good if they stay healthy). We need a few more PTP'ers and we will be back to the elite status we once enjoyed.

and we aren't losing to either of them. and such topics shouldn't even be discussed for fear of jinxing the whole season. :p

Just trying to maintain some focus here. Frankly, I will consider anything short of a blowout to be a bad sign although a win's a win.

Another loss to a top 10 team AT HOME for the fat man. way to go. :nono: :whatever: :mega_shok: :bad: :finger3: :furious3:
Fat people rock. I would also like to commend you on the excellent coaching job you have done at a major SEC football program.

i hear ya, but i wouldn't expect one this weekend...i think they'll be a little flat after last week, and i think you will see a concerted effort to get better in the running game, which usually means a grind it out kind of game.....i could see something like 31-13...not too close, but closer than you probably know it should be...

the Memphis game...that one is always tough. they don't have near the weapons they did last year, and they lost to Ole Miss who is terrible....but it's the week before the UGA game...possible look ahead..

either way, neither of these teams leave much to be inspired about...it will probably be tought to get them up two weeks in a row for these two games.

but both wind up being comfortable wins, just not extremely impressive.

Hypothetical question - Who would they get to replace Phillip Fulmer?

I'm just wondering, hypothetically, who would be a possible likely successor if the University of Tennessee dismissed Coach Fulmer?

The University of Tennessee has a history of hiring persons they know to the head coaching position.

A brief re-cap of Tenneessee's head football coaches.

Robert Neyland 1926 to 1951
Harvey Robinson (Neyland protege)
Bowden Wyatt (Neyland Protege)
Jim McDonald (coached 1 year, was UT assistant coach)
Doug Dickey (played for Neyland player, UT athletics director Bob Woodruff)
Bill Battle (assistant coach under Dickey)
Johnny Majors (former UT player, Neyland protege)
Phillip Fulmer (former UT player)

Robert Neyland was hired as Professor of Military Science before being appointed as UT's head football coach according to Wikipedia.
Robert Neyland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If what Wikipedia says is true then Neyland had connections to UT (via his affiliation as a teacher) before being hired as head football coach. I have heard from other sources that he ran UT's ROTC program for one year before becoming head football coach.

Michael Jordan. he went to school with Buzz Peterson and Buzz was once UT's basketball coach.

Steve Spurrier (has connections with Doug Dickie)

Heath Shuler (he's going to lose his political race, and let's face it, he coached the Knoxville Riverhawks)

ok, I'm being facetious. Tennessee's next head coach will likely be from within, as always. I'd be willing to bet $1 that it'll be John Chavis.

If it were to happen, which I think will happen a few years any who, Cut will be the next head football guy at Tennessee.

I was thinking that they might go the Division I-AA route. Kind of like they did with Bruce Pearl.

Umm... Little different with basketball. Tons more parity in hoops, and Wisconsin-Milwaukee was (and still is) a pretty good team. Bruce Pearl did manage Tourney victories over Alabama and Boston College. I seriously doubt there are any D-IAA coaches out there good enough to take on a big-time program at this point. Getting a coach from a mid-major is one thing...

I thought he was just using that as a generalization for smaller basketball conferences, such as the Horizon League. :dunno:
