Fulmer Discussion (Merged)

Tennessee has become the Georgia of the 90's. Back in the 90's Georgia was always coming in behind Tenessee and Florida in the S.E.C. East. Now that Georgia and Florida are beating on the field and appears to be out recruiting us. It's caused us to be the third best program in the S.E.C. East. However I think our program is in solid shape. It's just not as solid as Florida's or Georgia's.

Just to inform everyone. The last time we went to a B.C.S. bowl was 1999. That year Nebraska beat us in the Fiesta bowl. Hopefully Coach Fulmer will become lucky again and push all the right buttons.

that is usual response from a fulmerite. the fact is if a team is ranked in the top 15 coming into neyland stadium, tennessee will more than likely lose. fulmer is terrible against ranked opponets, especially since 98. fulmer hasn't won the sec since 98. fulmer hasn't done much of anything since 98. the rest of this season means nothing because we need florida to lose 2 and its not going to happen. we will lose at georgia and at home to lsu and we may run the rest of the games. so there is a good chance we will finish 9-3 and go to the peach bowl. my whole problem is this is the norm at tennessee now and its not being fairweathered to want your team to get better when you know there is a problem. CUT was not able to get the offense running and with fulmer having problems with recruiting our future looks really dim right now. it is a fact ESPN can see it, the rest of the country can see it, but for some reason some tennessee fans are in denile or just blind. it is time to wake up people. the glory days are not coming back. it is time for a change. fulmer said it himself, we play to win every year to win the SEC. he hasn't done it in almost a decade.:whistling:
Agree with your comments. To add to your comments. 1999 was the last time we went to a B.C.S. Bowl. Nebraska beat us in the Fiesta Bowl that year.

You people that want rid of Fulmer are CRAZY! He's done more for our program than anyone else has that's had the job....The man loses one game this year and some of you people are on here saying its going to be another year like last year, that's DUMB! We've lost one game people, we're not even close to being out of the race for the East....Florida still has to play Auburn, Alabama, and Georgia...Not to mention south Carolina...Yeah we still have to play 3 of those teams but that's 3 teams we can beat....But back to Fulmer.....For you guys to want rid of the man, that's dumb...He has the best winning percentage out of any coach in the NCAA right now with over 10 years experience, and to want rid of that is crazy.....Yes, this could go either way but the numbers don't lie....I understand our record against top 10 teams at home lately hasn't been great but it could be worse, we will have a good season this year wether you Anti-Fulmer people want to believe it or not...You want him gone so bad, go tell the Administration yourself and do something about it, otherwise SHUT UP

Please don't use the "best winning percentage of anyone with 10 years" crap. Remember when it was plain "Best winning percentage"? Soon, if we don't win 10 games/season, it will be "Best winning percentage of any coach with over 15 years experience and also played for current school."

"Then it will be the best winning percentage of any coach with over 15 years experience who also happens to have a team that wears orange"

I don't doubt CPF will win 9-10 games for a few more years ... even 11 or 12 wins one year. However, the winning percentage angle is played out and irrelevant.

how is it dumb. the man has not won anything significant since 98. that is flat out the truth. i'm not really anti-fulmer. i met him and he is a hell of a nice guy, but that doesn't change the fact that he isn't getting the job done. i disagree with you on the sec this year, it is over. we are going to face three better defenses than florida and we would be lucky to win two, but it probably won't happen. your right the numbers don't lie recently fulmer stinks against ranked opponets it is a fact. i'm not one of those people that want a national title, i just want us to compete for the sec and win it. here it is three weeks into the season and it looks pretty dim probably over. you go to any other place around the country and ask what people think about fulmer and they will tell you he is a average coach who is a great recruiter. 50% of the tennessee fans believe it. fulmer has done alot for the program and i would love to see him turn it around, but the long line of excuses has to end somewhere. if he can't get it done he should know to step away. no excuse changes the fact that we haven't won a sec title since 98. i'm not calling for his head on a platter, but if the administration decided to make a change i sure wouldn't feel bad about it.

It's dumb because the man can win tough ball games on the road....Yes I know we have been lacking a big win at home over a top 10 team...We got that against Cal, they aren't a top 10 team now but they were at the time. ....We would have won the Florida game if that call against Mapu had went the other way......You can say he's an average coach all you want to but until you prove to me otherwise, I'm sticking with he's who needs to be our coach and he'll be our coach for a long time......And people like you need to get over it.....We've been in the SECCG 3 times since 98, had a great chance to win....Some teams haven't even been in the SECCG! But people like you, are a fair weather fan, we lose one game and any and all hope for an SEC Championship is gone.....We can still make it to Atlanta, we just have to have things go our way....Some how I knew after we lost our first game people like you, spitting their negativity would come out of the wood work wanting Fulmer's job, you're so much better than him at coaching a top tier college football team, why don't you go take his job from him? Since you think you're worthy enough to do so

if you really believe that crap your spewing lets make a bet. i got a franklin says that UT doesn't run the table. I got another franklin that says we don't play in the sec championship game. fulmerites usually come up with the same crap, still doesn't change the fact since 98 not 1 player since has a sec championship ring. another typical fulmerite response is fairweather fans, i guess you just really don't care about winning. that your deal not mine, i would like to see us win the sec in the next 5 to 10 years. am i a better coach than fulmer, no. i also don't get paid 2 million dollars a year either. if fulmer runs the table the rest of the year and goes to the BCS or wins the sec i will get off his back and praise him for a great job. if he doesn't i will say the same things i've been saying the last 4 years, that he waited to long to make changes, showed to much loyalty that help put the program in decline and is a average coach on saturday. everybody's entitled to there opinion and only time will tell if i'm right or your right. difference is i can debate the issue without attacking anybody. it's football nothing personal. just goes to show there are bad UT fans out there too. attacking other people because they don't agree with you. man what is your problem.:peace2: one final thought what are you talking about one game does 5-6 ring a bell.

Where in my post did I once attack you on a personal level? Truly, if I did I never meant to, I'm an easy guy to get along with, I never meant for anything I said to be taken out of contrast, I know I said to want rid of Fulmer is DUMB, but I never said that you or your opinion is dumb....I know everyone has their own opinion and they're entitlted to it but I never once said anything about you or your personal life, and to say I'm a bad UT fan is crazy......I'm loyal to my team, I'll stick with them through thick and thin but I look on the optimistic side of things......I never once said we would run the table, I said we could beat 3 of the teams that we played that were in our way to going to ATL, you're trying to put words into my mouth...Yes, unfortunately 5-6 does ring a bell, but you know what? THAT WAS LAST YEAR! Not this year, we lose one game and people are gloom and doom.....It's a long year guys....I'm just saying anything can happen, and maybe if the right things do happen we can make it to Atlanta and do some good things

Again man, I never meant to attack you personally, I rarely have a cross word on here with anyone, I was't trying to to make you feel like I attacked you because you disagree with me....Hope I cleared that up:victory::peace2:

That logic works until you consider that Mark Richt is:

0-1 against Spurrier (at Florida)
0-1 against Urban Meyer
1-3 against Ron Zook
1-2 against Nick Saban
2-3 against Tommy Tuberville

Does this mena Mark Richt has underachieved?
Mark Richt has won 44 games over the past 4 years. Along with 2 S.E.C. Champinships. I don't care what his record is against those other coaches. He's getting it done at Georgia and their fans love him. Compare Fulmers record over the last 4 years to his?

Did you actually come into this season expecting the Vols to go undefeated on the way to a SEC and National Championship?

Remember the days when going to the Citrus Bowl was a big disappointment. A Citrus Bowl bid later on in the year would be great for this team. Coach Fulmers best days might behind him. It's obvious he's not matching up well with Meyer, Richt and of course Spurrier. He's got to start doing better against these coaches or he will be out of a job. Prediction: If Coach Fulmer loses his job within the next couple of years. Rich Rodriguez of West Virginia will be the Tennessee Coach. If he's still available.

That wasn't my point. I was just using Richt's head to head record with a few coaches to illustrate that head to head coaching records aren't necessarily that good a barometer given how things change from year to year.

I agree with your point. However our program has been sliding. Now Georgia and Florida have leaped over are program. You must admit their programs are better than ours. Hopefully we will stay ahead of South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Kentucky. Last year in the N.F.L. draft Jason Allen was our first 1st round pick since 2002. During 90's we were having first rounds picks every year. Either Coach Fulmer is not recruiting as well or he's not developing players while there at Tennessee. Coach Fulmer needs to stop the slide and slow down the Georgia,Florida train that is has pulled ahead of us

Sums it up pretty much in a nutshell.

it's all good ainge. really the one loss doesn't bother me all that much. it is who we lost to and where we were playing at that keeps me on the negative side.

unfortunatly it is true. the citrus bowl is great for us now. i really just don't know what to say.:BANGHEAD2:

Ever heard the saying "the devil we do know is better than the one we don't know"? That may be true here.

Anyway, sometimes it's best to let things work themselves out. If we have a season like last year he'll be gone. Maybe we need a change, but that's down the road aways. Let's not get all down right at the get go. I don't like some things either, but let's give it time and see if they can turn it around. This is all premature, in my opinion.

CBS has us projected to go to the Cotton bowl against Oklahoma...not that i put much in to bowl projections in September, but i thought that would be a cool match up...

Tennessee as well as Florida have gone on to the SEC title game after losing the heads up match. You're right, it's premature to say the sky is falling. It is after all a twelve game (this year anyway) season.....

I think some people have misguided patience now that it looks as if SC, Ole Miss, and Arkansas are not progressing as most expected. IMO if we wait too long, teams other than GA, Fla, Aub, and LSU will pass the UT program as well.

I'm pretty sure the guy the stadium is named after contributed just a little more to the program than TCHFCATUTK.
I figured you would know that when you read the post that's why I didn't say it, I mean a man that has a stadium named after him had to do something right
